Terrible customer service as you can also see from other reviews. The driver 'accidentally' picked up our organic trash bin even though I had not asked for it. Then, the following week, they again accidentally removed my regular trash bin. How incompetent do you have to be? Then to make matters worse, they failed to drop off the replacement bin as promised during the following pick up day. So now going on two weeks without trash bin. I have seen their pickup truck in our area outside of the weekly pickup day so they could easily drop off a new bin without making people wait for another week. This is what happens when a company becomes near monopoly. read more

I run a small business and initially chose Waste Management Co. for their reputation and widespread services. I needed a 2-yard garbage dumpster and a 2-yard recycle dumpster. While the company's size and resources are impressive, my experience has been frustrating due to excessive fees and rigid policies. One example is their recycling enforcement. If my tenants place recyclable items in garbage bags--even if the items are recyclable--I get charged $139 per incident. This feels excessive, especially when it's out of my direct control. When I decided to cancel the service due to these ongoing frustrations, I was hit with a $300 charge per dumpster for cancellation. On a positive note, their customer service representatives are generally helpful and polite, but the company's policies seem designed to nickel-and-dime customers rather than accommodate their needs. For a company of this scale, I'd expect more flexibility and fairness, especially for small businesses like mine. Unless they update their policies, I can't recommend them. read more

Waste Management's continuous failure to pick up our business trash dumpsters has been a big problem. While missed pickups were an occasional inconvenience in the past, since the beginning of this year, the issue has escalated to a chronic problem. Every missed pickup disrupts our production operations. WM claims we aren't placing the bins correctly, but the dumpsters have been in the same designated area since our business was established. Adding insult to injury, we've been shown videos that supposedly prove the dumpsters were emptied, but they clearly show a different address. Good thing video provides good proving point for both parties. The customer service representatives are utterly clueless and unhelpful. Waste management is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. I've been using WM at my business for 15 year, I recently reduced my bin from 3 yards to 2 yards because the bill was soo high. 1 month later I learned their competator company, republic waste, was charging $235 instead of $489 for monthly service, and when a transient leaves the lid open overnight, republic charges $37 while WM charges $300 every time the lid is ripped open. When I went to cancel, WM informed me when I reduced my bin size to 2 yards I entered a 3 year contract, and to cancel it will cost $3500. Now I know why Tony soprano was in the trash business. read more

1). I called a month ahead for a bulky item pickup. They gave me 3 Wednesdays to choose from. I paid a helper to move stuff out the day before the scheduled pickup. On pickup day, I called at noon and was assured it would be picked up by 6pm. Called again at 5pm and was told I was never scheduled for that day, they don't even come to my city on Wednesdays. The soonest they could pick it up was 2.5 weeks later. So my neighborhood had to look at a junk pile for weeks. 2). For billing issues, representatives have no decision making authority. They take notes and promise a supervisor will call back, but they don't call. I've waited as long as two weeks with no luck. Very poor communication. read more

They have missed emptying our apartment recycle bin for the last 3 weeks. I've gotten on the phone with this business and their reps are rude and they talk over me while I'm explaining the situation. They are liars and they say their drivers have video of them emptying our apartment recycle bin but the bin has been full for 3 weeks with the exact same contents. They will insist that the video proves the pickup and there is no way to get through to a higher authority there to force them to pick up our recyclables. Meanwhile our stuff piles up because it's illegal to dump it in the regular trash. We're trapped! Someone needs to shut this company down and blacklist their employees from working ever again. You will not continue to do this to us, Waste Management. This is unsanitary and unsafe, and illegal! You will be forced to hear us! read more

This business did not pick up our trash on regular Thursday pickup day. I had long waits on hold when I called twice to request pickup. My trash was not picked up despite their scheduling 2 pickups until the following regular pickup day. In all fairness, they had not missed picking up our trash previously. read more

I think we all need to get together and fight against waste management. I can't believe that they want us to do their work for them now. My bill keeps going up and up. Now they want me to separate all my waste into 3 different containers. Who has the time to do this? I have a fourplex in Sacramento County that is serviced by Waste Management. I am currently paying nearly $400 a month for a dumpster from Waste Management. I contacted a WM representative, let's just call him J., and asked for a quote for a smaller dumpster to save some money. He sent me the quote which I wanted to accept. I emailed him back and left him THREE voicemails but I never heard from him again. I found a local company that's less than half the price so I am happily leaving WM. Here's an update: Guess who I got in touch with when I called to cancel service? -- my long lost WM representative who was suddenly very accommodating and apologetic. Unfortunately, my old management company locked me into a rolling 12 month agreement so I'm stuck with them for awhile. read more

Its pretty amazing to see a company that can manage a 1-star average rating, but if you have dealt with Waste Management you would understand that it is a well earned rating. We used them for several years and they would drastically increase their price every year. Then my property manager said we had to replace out dumpster as it looked terrible. It was several years old and even had a hole punched in the side by the pickup truck. Asking WM for a replacement they wanted a large fee to put a new one in even though they had damaged this one and it had been on our site for almost ten years. So I compared with competitors and found they were almost three times as much. I wanted to switch, but WM gets you in a contract that you have to cancel during a very specific and short period (60-90 days before it renews if I remember correctly) or it auto renews for another year. DO NOT sign a contract with this company. Ever. I was finally able to switch to Atlas Waste (which is amazing) and am so happy to be done with WM. Never again. I am not certain how this company can stay in business. read more

We followed instructions for cancellation before the cut off date and now suddenly they're saying we never canceled. Now they have us for another year and we can't get out of it. This company lies. I can't even give them 1 star. For some reason they didn't pickup my garden waste. I called the next day which was a Friday & they said someone would be by that day to pick it. No one came on Friday. I call on Monday around to complain & the customer service rep states they went out there & that I should probably clean my container because the container would not empty. I go home and check my container & material in the container can freely move inside. I then check my cameras. They did come by on the service date but the driver did not tip can. He was able to lift it off the ground, not once but twice, and never tipped the can. I call back the next day which is Tuesday & I explain what happened & that I have video footage of what happened. The rep then stated that will be back out to service the can soon. She then states that someone will be out by noon the next day & to make sure that the can is accessible. Well today is Wednesday & noon time came & went. Tomorrow is Thursday which is my normal service day. I wonder if they will properly service my garden waste can then. Absolutely the worst, most unprofessional and corrupt cheaters in the business. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN ANY CONTRACT with these thieves. Just read the reviews below, and, if there were negative stars, all of us would give them! They cram you into contracts, raise prices that are 150% higher than local haulers during the so-called contract. Abysmal customer service, and when you threaten to leave, they call you with all kinds of sweet talk and lower prices. To cancel, you have to mail them a certified letter. After reading the hell people have gone through to get out of their 1-sided contract, I was sure to call every month to verify the contract was ended. AND NOW, when I finally and gratefully went with another company (which of course was half WM's gouging price) , they charged me $222 to pick up their container! Someone needs to start a Class action lawsuit against these thieves. read more

If I could give 1 star believe me I would be giving just that. For 2 years they've delivered a large dumpster to my house ( for house garbage, and remodeling my house ) I've never had an issue until today. So this past Friday the driver said he couldn't deliver my dumpster because the power lines are too low, then yesterday 1/7/19 he said he came by but didn't. I called today to find out where the heck my dumpster is Jonathan was rude, and has no customer service skills. How this company has stayed in business is beyond me. You're suppose to work with the customers, and try to fix the solution, not yell and scream at the customer that you have to believe your driver ( but two other people delivered in the exact place ) ughhhhh I want a refund. I wish I could give ZERO stars. Each year we are given the stickers for the extra services. I rarely need to use them, except last week. I put the bag with the sticker in front of the green bin, WM guys move the bag to the side and leave it. I call WM to see why this occurred, she assured me they would send someone back out in 48 hours to pick up the bag. Fast forward to this weeks trash pick up......WM tears open the bag and leaves everything in the street! I call WM and the best thing they can tell me is, go ahead and clean it up and put it in the bin and we will pick up next week. Um, why do we receive stickers if we cannot actually use them?!?!? We have a 2 yard (6'x3'x3') dumpster that is picked up every two weeks. Having noticed the rate steadily climbing, I checked our bookkeeping and the monthly rates were as follows at the beginning of each year - 2005 through 2014 ... $73.95, $82.24, $90.26, $95.09, $97.17, $105.11, $114.20, $120.37, $128.84, $146.06 and then $160.73 in June 2014 (the time of this writing). I emailed Waste Management through their web contact form my intention to stop service and received their email confirmation, but no other contact for a week - so I called the local number that I found on our bill. Mike answered and said that per our agreement we signed, we have a five year agreement that auto renews - up November of next year. If we wanted to cancel we can either wait until next year and submit a request to cancel service between 180 and 90 days prior to the end of the agreement ... or we can pay 3 times the current cost of pickup ($160.73 x 3 = $482.19) + a $50 container removal fee. This fine print is in the 'Liquidated Damages' section of their service agreement. I shopped around. Atlas quoted me $48 a month for the same trash service with just a 30 day notice to cancel. We paid the $532.19 to cancel service immediately, and we will be happily money ahead in 6 months and no longer supporting Waste Management! It is amazing to me that a company would put themselves in - what is at least to me - pretty shaky ground for fair business practices. The loss of business from those who figure this out must be worth it to them for the extra revenue they get (just do a web search and look at customer posts on their Facebook page) ... but they won't get any more of our business in the future and as you can tell from reading this, we won't be shy about sharing! ;) Just a fair warning to everyone, when it comes to dealing with Waste Management, read the fine print! ;) read more

I ordered a pickup of a Bagster bag. The price in 2012 was 103 bucks. The price in 2014 was 103 bucks. Silly me, I filled a bagster bag less than a year after my last pickup and the price is now 260 dollars! And I'm stuck with 1000lbs of crap in my driveway unless I pay. Never again. Getting charged $150 for an overage fee for a box. In the letter sent to me, it was listed two large black bags of trash. However in this pictures with date stamps you can see that 30 seconds before they come to pick the trash someone just threw a cardboard box in the trash. Worst service ever. From forgery to bad customer service to dangerous and lazy drivers. Forged my name on a contract, customer service rep doesn't respond and driver speeds through the lot and leaves the bin in the driveway. They also bill for unwarranted additional service. Terrible service and customer service. I called to cancel the service only to hear ( after several calls and robo- delays) that I must wait 10 months and send a certified letter, giving 90 days notice. Funny, I signed a contract 6 yrs ago, for garbage service. Have never seen anything to inform me that I've got an annual renewal, and, why exactly is 70 days " not enough notice" to cancel a contract which they routinely BREACH via failure to do the job. I see that they have been nailed with antitrust suits in other states, citing a "60 day" requirement as an example of anti competition maneuvers. The service was acceptable but they are more expensive than other options for weekly pickup at a business. I decided to switch to another company and that's when the problems began. They changed the dates for the contract at some point (without telling me) and then didn't pick up their bin until a few days after I requested it be picked up and charged for a full month plus $150 to pick up the bin I felt like they gouged me on that fee). They gave me a partial credit when I should have gotten a full credit for the month. We worked it out and agreed to a final bill that I paid on the phone when the final amount was agreed upon. Next month another bill arrives with an "administrative charge" and a late fee. I just paid it to be rid of them, which is probably what they had hoped. I would not do business with this company in the future. read more

DO not use this company. I had 7 years experience with them. I guarantee you will be sorry. Every year they increased my rate for a trash and recycling dumpster by 15-20% when their contract clearly stated that increases would be no more than 4% per year plus cost of living index (which has been less than 4%) which makes the maximum allowable increase to be half of what they attempted. This is a contract, a legal document, so they are breaking the law. Each year I would call and complain and they would lower the increase back down to 8% and then, guess what, each and every year they would repeat the same process with me. After 5 years my contract ended and the guy on the phone dropped my monthly rate by about $75 and promised me that the increases would be true to the contract so I went for another 2 years. Guess what, my rates were increased back to what they were in a few months and to top it off after a year they tried to go up another 16%. Oh, and they only closed the lids about half the time so the rain got in and the sun did it's own amount of damage. Also, the dumpsters were pretty badly dented and it took 4 years of calling to get newer ones. One time after Christmas the lid was propped open because of one gift box and they fined me $150 (see pic.) Really, at Christmas? I had to speak with multiple people to remove that fine but they did. And as you see, they are an ugly yellowish green color. I now am with another company saving me about $100/month and with a guaranteed increase of 5% per year with new dumpsters in pleasant colors. Months after I ended my contract with WM I got a letter telling me my rates were to be increased and I even got another bill from them so now I have to call them to get my name out of their billing cycle so in years to come there won't be a mistake that might have an adverse affect on my credit score. From now on I will always read reviews on a company, and read them carefully, and hopefully never make a bad decision like this again. There are other large companies that are honest and decent, support them, make this a better world. read more

I never go with this company again. I don't change around company for better price. I have been stick with this company for a long time and that is a mistake. They keep increasing the price every year and now every month. The 3 year contract has been over and some one contact me for a renew. I was about to do and found out new contract bill will be higher than now. So I didn't sign and am paying monthly. Also people are digging into garbage can and making a mess every night. People dump the trash and fill up the can. I don't even have room for mine. One time I got bill for 5 times than normal because somebody fill up the dumpster. I called them and explained, but they were going to collect money. I feel like that I am paying for somebody else. I tried to cancel because of all the reason. They said it renew automatically 12 month term after contract is over. Or you have to pay early termination fee. Unless you close business you are stuck with them. They told me they will lower down about $6 less and extend service another year so i cant cancel to go to different service provider. They charge $150 if your garbage lid is sticking up a little bit (when the entire monthly service was $75 a month, that's twice the monthly service charge for 1/100th of extra garbage). They said my container was too heavy so they stopped picking it up for months. Numerous calls to customer service and management will get you nowhere (they won't even call back). If you try to cancel because they refuse to pick it up, you get stuck with liquidated damages, that are around $500-$600). I've never dealt with a company this horrible before. Their contract actually states that no class action lawsuits are allowed, and that's because they deserve and have lost class action lawsuits. I've talked to two decent people there, and I truly feel sorry for those two people and I wish they'd move to a company that had morals. I called Republic Services for a quote and they are less than 2/3 of the monthly price with a $25 overage fee about vs $150. Literally, take your garbage to the dump yourself before ever signing up with this company. read more

Pretty bothered with the Sacramento commercial division, I realized they have been charging me for a over a year for recycling service that i never had. I've called twice to have them research the billing and they have not done anything about it for over two months. They recently mixed up my billing address with the service address and canceled my service and picked up the containers. The customer service agent was not friendly. Do not use this company for waste disposal. We used a 3-yard container from WM at our business from 2009 to 2016 with 2x per month pickup service. The monthly fee incrementally increased to double our original amount (from $80 to $160 per month within a four year period). When we questioned the fees they indicated that we were under contract and had no ability to adjust price. I sent a cancellation letter 3-months before our end of contract to ensure that there were no problems cancelling our service. I also checked back at the beginning on June 2016 by phone to ensure that everything was set on our account to cancel on time. WM did not pickup the actual container until mid August and sent a final bill that was higher that my normal monthly service bill to "pickup the container". If we treated our customers like this, we would be bankrupt. PS - When WM received our cancellation letter, they called and offered to lower our monthly fee back to $80 per month again if we stayed. Funny. Had they done that when I originally questioned my fees the first time I would have probably been ok with it. Now I know they are simply a rip off and looking to hook you into some auto-renewing contract where they can charge whatever they want. Our new service with Atlas Disposal is under $60 per month...
