Water Street Coffee has some amazing coffee blends, especially the French Roast and Italian Roast, which they occasionally brew. They brew the French Roast regularly on the WMU campus. Its a really nice full bodied medium every day blend. The reason I gave this 3 stars is because often when I get a coffee to go from Water Street, I have to pick between a really fruity super light roast, or a dark roast that taste like I am drinking sludge. It would be nice if they would could have an every day offering (medium regular roast) that is not super light or super dark. I have ended up throwing out several of my cups of coffee lately because I couldn't drink the Midnight Oil, and the light roasts were meh, with a really fruity after taste. This is just my opinion, but I think many others would enjoy an offering of a daily medium roast with a smooth finish. read more

The drinks and food are just as expected, consistent and delicious. For those unfamiliar with Water Street, this is a great local company with a wide assortment of flavors, both food and drinks. Their beverage menu ranges from their main strength of coffee to tea, kids drinks and cocktails. Their food options are great for breakfast or a light lunch. However, this is my least favorite of their locations in town, because of the small amount of parking (not their fault), and the Panera-type feel to the seating area, even after the remodeling. Here's what is GREAT about this location: Lots of windows! This is especially important in winter (as we all know). Friendly Baristas (true for all WSCJ locations) Fantastic glassed in counters showcasing the delicious food available This location, for me, is more of a grab and go, rather than a destination coffee shop. Cozy place, there were candles on every table which made the view very romantic on a rainy day. It was busy when I arrived that Monday evening. Ican see tea pots almost on every table. I ordere lavender hot chocolate besude feta Spanish pie. The chocolate tasted nice. The pie was good, only needs less or no onion to be perfect. My mother and I stopped by here for a morning reprieve before shopping. We did the drive-through and While the order took a little time ( about 10 mins) ,we received our order correctly. I ordered a hot chai tea sweet and she ordered the lavender latte. She is very happy with her lavender latte. I, on the other hand, got a sip and just tasted hot milk. A slight flavoring of something NOT chi at all. This isn't bad but I would ask next time to add more chai flavoring, or what do they use? Can they improve the Chi? For $5 a pop for a 10 oz drink I was looking forward to having a treat. These are not inexpensive beverages and there is not a large quantity. Glad we chose to support local. read more

This is a great location in the crowded plaza area. Great staple for students and the community around but the only issue is that any time of the day you go, all seats are occupied. We haven't had an issue with their service so far. Everyone is pretty nice but except one time, someone was super sassy. We love sitting at the outdoor seatings with friends and coffee. The coffee is pretty ok but sometimes it could be inconsistent. Tip: If you are a College student, make sure to take advantage of Student ID 50% off on Mondays. I've come to love this location much more than the other two. The baristas here are always very kind and understanding, the chairs, when available, are comfortable. It has a very odd feel to it, like a fancy Panera. Unlike the other locations, it feels less warm and cozy. The real reason to visit waterstreet is the 50% off for students on mondays. Otherwise, it's a bit pricey for the quality of the food and drink. It's almost always crowded and a bit noisy. It can be hard to just sit down and talk. Always packed with people in their studies. Now, to the good stuff They make a MEAN apple bacon grilled cheese. Delicious, slightly spicy, and packed with flavor. Their Ice Queens are also amazing. They can be in almost every flavor, and far worth the price. Not only is the dark chocolate amazing, but we got the maple pecan latte as an ice queen, which is one of the best coffee drinks I have ever had the joy to consume. That same maple pecan latte comes hot. I highly reccomend doing half the sweetener with alternative milk. Overall, it's a decent coffee shop with a great story. With how many good coffee shops there are in kalamazoo, it has tough competition. But the size of the shops makes it an easy choice if you have study groups, large groups of friends, or late night meet ups. read more

Great coffee joint near us with the best deal for students on Mondays! Coffee and all other food are 50% off for college students so it is very budget friendly on Mondays. I only wished that they have more seatings because it gets full very easily. I often see only one barista working so I'd suggest maybe have another one on the crowded and busy days. Idk if anyone feels comfortable waiting in the line for coffee and the other crowd also waiting to order. It's a very narrow space! Tip: feel free to bring your own mug. The barista will decide which size is what and will generously fill up your coffee. My wife suggested that we do it so we can avoid using paper cups ( she hates using paper) unless otherwise noted for the barista that you want an actual mug to drink your coffee! read more

The appearance of an elevated Starbucks with elevated pricing and very mediocre food and drinks. My husband and I came here looking for something quick to eat before our Saturday activities. For two small drinks and two burritos we spent a little over $40. The sleeping bear my husband got was not horrible but it wasn't all that great either. With a very strong coffee taste and very little chocolate flavor like the cashier promised. I got the Pumpkin spice queen. Which is their version of a Frappuccino. There was absolutely no pumpkin flavoring in my drink it legit tasted like blended coffee and milk. The spicy sausage egg and cheese burritos were just alright. They definitely had a kick to them but lacked flavoring. It was missing some salt. The highlight of the whole meal was the mocha cherry brownie. Definitely a rich chocolate flavor that has a great taste and texture. Will I be coming here again? Probably not. I definitely get better coffee and frappes at Starbucks. read more

Bar far my favorite coffee/study spot. Always great staff with a huge menu. It's not too much of anything here, so all types of demographics come here. The food here is always amazing, with portion sizes that will actually fill you up, at a reasonable price. I recommend the chorizo breakfast burrito or the pesto chicken sandwich. There are so many drink options it's hard to know what to get. I just get the press for two and ask for cream. Tastes great and is only 6 bucks. Wish this location was open later (especially now that there's no large tables at Fourth Coast). Our game night group really enjoys playing large tabletop board games here in the large table in the back room, but wish they didn't close as early as they do. The options in the pastry and deli cases are always amazeballs, and the coffee's terrific, too, but spendier than other joints (a pint-glass-sized "large" decaf caramel latte ran around $7). They've also got a great little gift shop area for the coffee or tea lover on your Christmas list. The decor here is delightful, too, as are the flower box arrangements in the outdoor patio area in the summer. Parking's a pickle. Seats nearly 100 with indoor and outdoor options (you won't always get a power outlet, but if you need to stay that long chances are someone will leave and you can move in). You have all of Oakwood Plaza to park in if their lot is full (I park there even if it isn't). Water Street has wonderful coffee and delicious food. There are so many wonderful things to choose from. However, if you are not a regular, and I am not, it can be a bit overwhelming. Typically there is line and it can take some time to get to the front. Secondly, there is not a menu on the way that lists all the fun drinks you can get. So if you are not sure what you want it is a bit harder to come up with on your own. They are one of the few coffee places that have coconut syrup, which I am a big fan of. The other downside is that it is expensive. If you want soy milk instead of regular milk it is automatically $1 extra! which seems crazy. The breakfast burritos are AMAZING! I typically get the bacon, egg and scallion burrito, they warm it up and make it just a tad crispy. perfection! read more

Let's be honest: the food and coffee are good, but every single year (I've been coming since 2001), the portions shrink and prices rise. And it's no longer the best cup of coffee in town (Black Owl wins easily for me, followed by Civil House) and everything offered to eat is fresh & tasty but also wildly overpriced by a mile. The atmosphere is cute (though, yes, always loud), and the parking is a nightmare unless you can find a rare off-time when no one's there. I still come occasionally, but there are so many competing options where service and value for the $ are much, much better. One thing that stands out as distinctive: they now have a liquor license and offer craft cocktails, and some beer & wine options. So, if you want to be at a coffee shop for happy hour, now you can. The atmosphere is great at both locations, but the Oakland Drive location has much more space and more comfortable seating options. My go-to drinks are the Mocha Del Sol (a little spicy) and the Tahitian Vanilla Milkshake with a shot of espresso. Try a dessert. You won't be disappointed. I love the Chocolate Walnut Oat Bars.
