My grandfather owned Trickers, before it was Waterford Gardens. Tricker is my grandmothers family name and there is still a Trickers in Ohio. My grandfather (Wilfred Schmidlin) worked there until he was 85! That place was his life. I basically grew up there. Our car got caught in a flood one time and I had to be rescued by one of the wonderful workers who put me on his shoulders and saved me. Water lilies are the most beautiful flower, and the smell, is just heavenly. When my grandfather passed, we put one in his hands-it was perfect. I loved it there. Now, those negative reviews, and those awful photos of the greenhouse (the back house) basically abandoned, with none of his beautiful lilies, the pond with no koi, it's devastating. The only reason I could see it looking like that is if there had just been a flood. I don't know how many times the river flooded those greenhouses, but they always cleaned up and started over. Except for the front office. Last I saw, that was pretty bad. So I hope the new owners restore it back to new, but also keep the Tricker history alive. Debbie Schmidlin Murphy read more

Cute place! I'm not an expert with pond and fish stuff but my boyfriend is. He took me with him one time and it was impressive! He loves this place, especially the fish and plants. They have so many varieties of fish that can fit any budget, as well as anything else you may need for pond care. They have a wide selection of plants too! Anything you might need- they have. The staff is also super friendly and really knowledgeable! I'm looking forward to coming back and getting fish for my boyfriend's pond! read more

THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING! Waterford used to be a beautiful place, in the last couple years they have been under new management and has completely gone to crap. The place is falling apart, half the fish are dead, the plants don't look healthy. The workers are no help and you can tell they don't care what happens to the facility. Do not go here for anything. The negative reviews of this place baffle me. I come here for pond supplies, aquatic plants, and koi. I've been keeping koi and a pond in my yard for a long time now and have dealt with other pond shops before, but none come close to Waterford Gardens. Their staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Their selection of aquatic plants is unparalleled. Finally, I have never been more pleased with koi. The prices for their koi are reasonable, the fish are beautiful, and most importantly, they are healthy. I won't go anywhere else. I made the switch to Waterford even though it's significantly farther away because of all the above. I don't know about the experiences other reviewers have had, but the pond portion of this business is top notch. The staff has never been anything but patient and helpful for me. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. Katie has no idea how to effectively run a business. I tried to book my wedding ceremony in the gardens behind the shop and less than TWO WEEKS before the date she emails me that she's CANCELLING because her neighbors (that she supposedly rents space to without knowing) are having a party she didn't know about. She did not bother to check with them first if they were willing to work around us WHICH THEY WERE. I reached out to them myself and they were nothing but accommodating. Katie was beyond rude on the phone and told me it is not her problem and yelled over me when I tried to come up with a compromise, shouting at ME that under no circumstances would I be allowed to have my wedding there anymore and that I would be just fine in the gravel shared courtyard across the street. She also didn't mention anything about the flowers she was supposed to do for the wedding but I'm guessing she no longer has any interest because she tried to charge me 1100 for the BARE MINIMUM flowers and I told her I was on a budget and we couldn't work with that number. We suspect that's the true reason she cancelled the entire wedding even though our original agreement was only for the space. Surely she cancelled because this party next door will generate more money for her than our wedding would and she doesn't care if we are thrown under the bus. We now have family flying in and a date and location on our marriage license with nowhere to go on that day (again less than two weeks away). I am sick and heartbroken that there are people like this in the world without a care to the inconvenience their ineptitude causes. read more

The place is ok but I wouldn't suggest going there . The man who runs the place/owner is difficult to deal with. You never know how he is going to be. I don't know about these other reviews.... I go here for pond stuff because it's a store for pond stuff. I wouldn't go here for flowers or to get married. I go to a florist for flowers and I go to reception halls for wedding receptions. I come to Waterford Gardens for pond stuff, just saying. The koi breeder here is top notch. The aquatic plant selection is amazing. They're really good at what they do here. The big koi pond in front is awesome. I bring my kids here to feed the koi all the time. They love it. read more

1. CUSTOMER orders white & tight bouquet for RECEPIENTS Birthday. (BTW RECEPIENT is a good customer of florist). 2. Waterford Florist sends RECEPIENT 15 pink roses with greenery (not what was ordered and short 9 roses (they said they sent 2 dozen)! 3. Never told CUSTOMER they sent something different. CUSTOMER was informed they "ran out of flowers" when inquired why it was not what she ordered. 4. 12 hours later all the flowers are wilted. RECEPIENT informs florist and is told the owner is out of town and they will deal with it on Monday. (3 days after RECIPIENT's Bday) 5. Monday afternoon no replacement or phone call. RECIPIENT returns flowers to florist and florist says owner still out of town, no resolution, and accuses recipient ( loyal customer) that the roses she has are not wilted saying that it was RECIPIENT's fault. NOT HONEST NOT PROFESSIONAL AWFUL!!!!!!! I wonder if the flowers she showed me were the missing 9? Word of caution, do they really send the flowers you ordered? BUYER BEWARE! read more

Do not expect a refund, a replacement, or even decent customer service if you deal with the manager of the aquatic section at Waterford Gardens in Saddle River, NJ. I bought a butterfly koi there for my healthy pond (30 other fish for over 10 years). I have previously bought koi at Waterford Gardens. When the new fish showed white bumps on its side and brown hairlike growth two days later, I was concerned. The fish was lethargic. One week later it was dead. When I called the store manager he was very huffy. "You're past the 7-day warranty!" "Your pond water must not be clean!" " No refunds!" He hinted that he might be open to a replacement, so I drove 45 minutes to the store. One of the assistants in the shop asked what happened to the fish. I showed him the fungal infection site, and he said, "Don't worry, we'll replace it for you." Nice young man. But next thing I know I heard the manager raising his voice in a back room, where the assistant had brought my dead fish. He basically accused me of lying. He said there never had been an infection. He was nearly yelling. I'm a pretty calm guy, so I said, "We really can't have a conversation if one of us is yelling in the face of the other." His response was, "That's good, because this is a ridiculous conversation." At this point he was red in the face and shouting so loudly that the assistants stopped and were watching. As I left, the assistants looked at me as if to say, "Hey, man, we just work here." I said to them, "How in the world do you work for a guy like that. It's as if he doesn't like customers." It doesn't matter whether he gave me a refund or not, or whether he replaced the fish. Good men on both sides can disagree; I understand that. And he could have said, calmly, "You know, I'm sorry about the fish, but for this reason or that reason, I can't help you." OK, I get it. But to be yelled at and made to feel like I was a massive bother to the manager of this place was disgraceful behavior on his part. I won't go back. Watch this space for an overly defensive, emotional, accusatory response from the manager, and gauge for yourself the quality of (that is, lack of) customer service at Waterford Gardens in Saddle River, NJ. At the very least, do yourself a favor and see if there's another aquatic store nearby before you go to this place. read more

I have been dealing with Waterford Gardens for almost 20 years. They have a good selection of fish, plants and pond accessories. Most importantly the staff is very knowledgeable about the hobby.
