    Kangaroo skewer over chips
    Jeffrey R.

It was recommended that we check out Waterfront Grill for their kangaroo skewers, and they sure did not disappoint! Waterfront is located on, you guessed it, the Darling Harbour waterfront. If it is a nice evening, they have great outdoor seating right beside the promenade's ferris wheel. Our table ordered the chickpea & grilled haloumi salad with smoked salmon added on and the kangaroo skewer. The salad was delicious with the smoked salmon adding a very nice touch to the haloumi. It came with a balsamic vinaigrette which I did not even need to use since there was already such a great taste. It is intended to be a starter for the table; however, is an adequate size as an entree for someone that is not too hungry. The kangaroo skewer was also very good. It was a fun presentation and change from the standard striploin. It was a bit heavy on the sauce which, albeit good, detracted from the kangaroo flavor. It is served over a bed of thick chips and with alternating peppers and onions on the skewer. Our only qualm with Waterfront was the waitstaff. The hostess was very kind and personable; however, our waiter never introduced himself. Instead, he walked up within 5 minutes of sitting down and asked if we had our order ready yet. He seemed bothered that we asked for more time. If you eat dinner with them, they give you a coupon for a 15% discount if you come to eat breakfast with them. We may just take them up on that deal!

Weds Deal - $19.90 350 gram Rump Steak

So I've been here on two separate occasions to take advantage of their daily specials: Tuesday - All-You-Can-Eat Ribs & Chips - $27 Wednesday - 350 gram Rump Steak & Chips - $19.90 QUALITY: The ribs were mediocre. It lacked flavor and "juice". I like my ribs falling-off-the-bone, tangy and fingering-licking good. I was only able to finish two servings. I'd prefer the ribs at Hurricanes or Criniti's. But if you have a graving for a ton of ribs at a cheap price, you can't beat $27 in the city. I like my steak medium-rare. It came out just the way I like it - tender and juicy with a bit of redness. However, I'd still prefer Cargo Bar for a cheap delicious steak. It's half the price and you get salad + a side of whatever sauce you want. It was an extra $2.50 for mushroom sauce here. SERVICE: What a difference a few days make! I went with a group of friends on Tuesday to try the ribs. We had Lucy as our server. What a lovely gal! She was very attentive without hovering over us the entire time. She was quick to refill our drinks and ribs and didn't even rush us when we were done with our meal. The following week I went to Waterfront Grill with my old church sponsor to give the steak a try. We had this very pale looking server and I could tell he was trying to rack up the bill right off the bat. My sponsor ordered a beer and I asked for water. The server brings me out a bottle of mineral water ($4) that he opens and pours right away before I could say I wanted tap water. We ordered our food and after it came out, he asked if I wanted mushroom sauce. I should've known it was extra charge but I just thought it's free like at Cargo Bar. Nope let's add another $2.50. We never see him again until I try to find someone to get the bill. We were one of 3 tables in the entire restaurant... OVERALL I'd come do the ribs again if I was REALLY shooting for quantity over quality. But I'm definitely not coming back for the steak or that server.

    Brushetta at The Waterfront Grill

We started with bruschetta, which was fairly good. For the mains I had a Waterfront burger with chips and my partner had a Portuguese burger; they were both pretty good overall and not priced too bad for Darling Harbor. The highlight was definitely the service from the wait staff! We interacted with three different staff members and they were all amazingly friendly and helpful - for that reason alone I would be happy to return.

    1 litre beers!

We held a birthday dinner in late August and it was a great night! We were 8 pax + a newborn and they were very accommodating for our required pram space. 1 litre beers, delicious jam jar cocktails, juicy ribs, tender lamb shanks and fun, friendly and timely service by the manager. The weather was reasonable for us, so the fireworks show held outside in the harbour was a nice surprise! We look forward to returning on our next Sydney visit.

Rib Eye Steak with mash and creamy mushroom sauce
    Joshua S.

The rib eye steak was cooked to perfection, the pork ribs was tasty but was not as soft as some other restaurants. Service is amazing as they you are ushered to your table and they politely wait until you are ready to order. The view is amazing with Cockle Bay right in front of you. The negatives are that it is definitely EXPENSIVE. The steak was $43 and it only came with the steak and chips or mash. No salad or drink included. It was a very filling meal but not worth the very expensive price.

Me and my gf both chose the big breakfast, despite it was quite a cold morning and the fact we sit outside, it was nice and hot coming out. Scramble egg was soft and smooth, toast and Bacon was just right. Would recommend!

Well, today we're checking out Bistecca... a steakhouse speakeasy of sorts! Here's how it went and why it was rated #45 of the top 101 steakhouses in the entire world... Atmosphere/Appearance: Deep in downtown Sydney hidden in an alleyway in the entrance to this literal hidden gem. Lol. Once through the door and down the stairs you're taken to a very dark dimly lit, but very old-school looking tavern. It's a small room, but essentially a waiting room/cocktail lounge for you. Once it's your turn to head into the dining room the door open to the brightly lit room, your phones are locked away in a drawer which you have access to via a key and you're guided to your seat! I LOVED this experience because now you're forced to just live and be in the moment. The kitchen is wide open and you can see everything that's happening. The tables and chairs are scattered throughout the room and you just, BE. Like the good 'ol days before smart phones. Service: I can't remember the name of our server, but he was excellent. We had no issues at all. Food: The menu is extremely simple. You're here for steak. That's it. The steak is sold in 100g increments. So you order by weight. We ordered 900g and the steak was so incredible we both wish we could've gone to maybe 1.2kg. Lol. That's a LOT of steak still, but this does include the weight of the bone. The feature is a large, T-bone steak cut from Australian-grown Chianina cattle and grilled over charcoal. It's recommended to be cooked medium-rare. It seriously was Heavenly. I don't even remember what sides we got. That's how good this steak was. Lol. Value: The steak is $19 AUD ($11.84 USD) per 100 grams (3.5 oz). The conversion can trip you up, so for example, the ORIGINAL steakhouse in NYC (Delmonico's) sells their 18 oz. T-Bone for $76.00 USD. The same size steak here would cost you around $65.00 and it's the #45 best steakhouse in the world. Delmonico's is not even on that list. Do what you wish with that information. Lol. The sides were appropriately priced. In conclusion, I LOVED this place and so did my wife. We still think about Bistecca years after we've been there and it's 100% worth making some good reservations as far in advance as possible because this place is small and will always be packed!

We were seated downstairs in their covered outdoor seating area. They also have indoor seating upstairs. Service wasn't too bad overall but they really could have checked on us more often after they had delivered our food. The food was kind of mixed. A couple in the group had ordered steaks and they were bland and tough. I ordered the Kangaroo for the table and we got that medium rare. Super tender and while it could have used more seasoning, the sauce we got with it paired perfectly. For myself I got the burger and beef ribs combo. For me this is where things go down hill. The beef ribs were TOUGH, hard to bite through and get off of the bone. As for the burger it was pretty dry but luckily I had the sauce from the kangaroo to fix that. I can say that the fries were perfectly cooked though. They have a number of cocktails to choose from but the beer menu was pretty limited.

The locals we were with cautioned us that it's generally very lean and can be tough so we were a bit apprehensive despite wanting to give it a shot so we decided to get it as an appetizer for the table to share and order other mains (it wasn't offered as an app on the menu, but they were gracious enough to do this for us). It cane out a perfect medium rare and I honestly would have believed you if you told me it was beef. I expected a gamier flavor but it was very mild, perhaps a slight note of iron in the aftertaste, but actually very good. For my main I got a steak sandwich and unfortunately I wish I had just gotten the kangaroo as my main, because the steak sandwich was just okay. On a positive note the server did replace my wine after a fly decided to practice treading in it (it failed). We were sitting outside, so I definitely don't blame them that it happened and they replaced my whole glass despite the fact that I had already drank half of it, so I give them points for that. That said, if I did come back here it would only be for the kangaroo if I happened to be here with someone that had never had it before.

Inside has a more formal ambiance we appreciated, but outside - assuming no cruise ship in the way - is probably the way to go for views, as we requested an inside top floor table with a view and didn't get much of one; turns out not many tables inside with a view. Service was mostly good but oddly slow in a few spots, the wine list was on iPad, and our pomme puree (mashed potatoes) came quite late. Steak was very good. MB7+ tomahawk is a terrific presentation, perfectly cooked to your specification, and described in detail. If you want the very highest quality (MB9) unfortunately thay was not on the menu when we visited, but it was surprisingly difficult find higher than MB7 on the regular menu of any of their competitors so I digress... (keyword: regular) Rest of the food was excellent. Little gem salad and chips are included with your tomahawk, the pomme puree was deliciously creamy if you like creamy mashed potatoes, broccolini hit the spot. And the scallops, while modest in appearance, won high praise. As someone who normally has a hard time going out for steak, given I can almost always make a better one at home, I do have to say that for a special occasion, 6HEAD was on the mark.
