You ever order a quesadilla and think this can't be that good? Well this one was, I will definitely be back, great staff and amazing food !

3.75 My husband and I decided to go to Waterloo Ice House for Breakfast. We drove up, parked in the parking lot and walked in. We were seated quickly. The waitress eventually came. She was very friendly and did a good job. She gave us menus, took our drink order and then gave us time to look over the menu. When she returned we placed our order. My husband and I ordered the Nachos Grande to share. They are tortilla chips with beans, cheese, tomatoes, jalapenos, sour cream and salsa. We ordered ours with chicken. My husband didn't mind them but I thought that they were a little bit of a disappointment. They were smothered in cheese. There wasn't very much chicken in there and the chips were stale. Next I ordered a short stack of Buttermilk Pancakes which came with a small serving of butter and syrup on the side. My husband ordered the a short stack of Blueberry Pancakes. The only difference was that his came with fresh blueberries on top. The pancakes were thick, and filling. I enjoyed combining them with the other parts of my meal. My husband also enjoyed his pancakes. My husband and I also ordered breakfast tacos. We both ordered the Classic Breakfast Taco which comes with eggs, bacon, tator tots, and cheese. We both ordered our tacos without cheese. They came with salsa choices. I tried the red salsa and the green salsa. Both salsas were good. I preferred the green salsa and my husband preferred the red salsa. The combined ingredients made for a delicious taco. During our meal the waitress brought me a Migas Breakfast Taco which comes with eggs, tomato, crushed tortilla chips, onions, and jalapenos. This was a mistake because I actually ordered the Waterloo Migas which comes with eggs, tomatoes, onions. cheese, tortilla chips, jalapenos, a side of refried beans and a flour tortilla. Long story short. I mentioned the mistake. They put an order in for the Migas and eventually brought them out to me. They also said that I could keep the taco and removed it from the bill. Honestly the Migas Taco was better than the Waterloo Migas. The taco had more crushed tortilla chips than the actual Migas. Both were covered in way too much cheese with a plentiful amount of eggs. The refried beans were okay. They were saltier than I was expecting but they added flavor to the Migas. The flour tortilla was good. I ordered my Migas with Bacon. The bacon was okay. It had a lot of fat on it but it was crispy which is what I prefer. Overall the restaurant had plenty of seating, the service was good, and the food was just okay. read more

Waterloo Ice House was celebrating their 50th Anniversary and had a special pop-up menu. On it was Grilled Salmon Tacos and ordered it along with their special 50th Anniversary Ale. The tacos were just delicious where selected corn tortillas giving it greater flavor. I hope this either makes the regular menu or as a daily special. read more

Waterloo ice house has in my opinion the best fried mushrooms IN AUSTIN!!! I am completely obsessed with them. And the restaurant is a great spot to go with kids if needed, they have a playground right outside, and plenty of parking. Such a great place to just stop and get a quick easy meal ( but definitely recommend the fried mushrooms). Staff is super nice, the restaurant is casual/chill, and a close spot to all the neighborhoods surrounding circle c/slaughter. Overall a good rec for a bite!!! read more

This was our first time getting breakfast here. They had a great patio that is dog friendly. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Our dog definitely loved the attention! I had the Waterloo Benedict and it was delicious! The queso is a nice twist on the typical Eggs Benedict. The hash browns were good, but I usually like mine a little more crispy. My fiance had the Texas Hill Country breakfast. I sampled his bacon (for science, of course) and it very crispy which I loved! We also split a pancake and it was massive and super fluffy. We will definitely be back for breakfast! read more

Waterloo Ice House Escarpment was a fun vibe, with good food, and an accommodating staff. The menu offers something for everyone from brunch items, to sandwiches, finger foods, kids meals, etc. We visited on a Saturday morning and were given brunch menus. The items looked tasty, but when we asked to see the lunch menu we were surprised to find the brunch menu items were also on there. In the future they should probably just hand out the larger lunch menus to give people options The interior is fun with neat canoe decor on the sealing, sports games on the tvs, and plenty of areas for sitting and eating. There is a nice patio on the side of the retardant, and a playhouse in the back for kids. It's also a nice setup that the playhouse is on a hill and the back of the restaurant has plenty of windows so families can enjoy a meal or the company of friends and family while still having eyes on their little ones We were a large table of 10+ with half being kids, and the server was on top of everything. All our drinks, meals, and additional requests came out without a hitch. I feel like our table was all over the place, and the server was not only friendly, but was attentive Some tips: If you have children, sit near the back so your kids can enjoy the playhouse. Also, kids receive crayons and a menu to color. I would also consider ordering a short or full stack of some of their delicious pancakes to share with the table on top of the main orders. Lastly, I was intrigued by the Texas Philly (with queso and poblanos). It was actually quite tasty. A little smaller than a typical Philly cheesesteak/hoagie, but it was good. Horrible, waited way over an hour for our food then came back and said they were out of biscuits. The other big top got their food before us and we were there before them ??? The waitress pointed the finger to the kitchen but was not attentive or very sorry . Had to keep asking for more coffee, napkins, silverware and just the minimum. Not only did we not get biscuits , the rest of the meal was NOT complete, wrong and very bad. We did get the meal comped but not a good experience and on Mother's Day ! Went as a large family group for breakfast. It was great to have the playground outside for the little kids to use. It was not crowded indoors shortly after opening on a Saturday. The patio has large doors that are open in good weather, but closed today because of the rain. The indoor dining room was also nice and there is a bar by the front entrance. TVs around the place were showing sports with the sound off. The food was great. Lots of choices for breakfast including pancakes, eggs various ways, waffles, and hash. I had the Waterloo Migas that came with refried beans and tortillas (corn or flour), and a little cup of spicy salsa. Excellent taste. I was impressed that there were about four tortillas included in the little foil package, which was almost enough. More could be ordered al a carte. Bacon, sausage, or ham choice too. Kids pancakes were in the shape of a snowman with chocolate chip eyes. A bit hit, as was the sausage "cookie". Service was fast and friendly. Everyone got a refill on coffee and tea. read more

The food is hit or miss. This last visit I ordered their crispy chicken sandwich and tater tots. Their tots were flavorless, but had a good crunch to them. The crispy chicken sandwich was a bit dry too. Their burger on the other hand was good. Service is also hit or miss. Our server was fantastic. She was attentive and kind. There were a couple employees chasing after each other with whipped cream, almost spilling it on customers and making a scene, and then they continued to argue. It was awkward. The first lunch, I had the Peppercorn Blue Cheese, delicious wine sauce with bleu cheese crumbles. The second lunch I had "The Works" burger. Big slices of bacon and large jalapeno slices covered this large burger. Both meals I enjoyed the sweet potato waffle fries. Our table ordered the Gringo Tacos, a patty melt, the Pulled Pork sandwich and the Waterloo Salad. No complaints about any dish. This neighborhood eatery in Circle C is a new addition to our rotation. We have eaten there five or six times now, sampling different things on the menu. Last night I had the most delicious piece of salmon I've ever had. It sat atop a green salad, which was the perfect combination. My husband has the chicken fried steak each time, and I have tried the turkey meatloaf. All of it is very savory. Last night they had a deal where you got 25% off of your tab if you did not get out any electronic devices. They had a box of games at the door if you wanted to do that. Since this restaurant is frequented by families, I thought it was an excellent idea and created such a different vibe. People were actually talking to one another! read more

Stopped here for a late Brunch with the wife and kids. There are plenty of different options whether you are visiting for breakfast, drinks, or lunch. The food items were fresh and simple (indicating healthier) while still having good flavor. I had the hash, which I would characterize closer to home fries with fixings. My wife had the classic breakfast taco, which was good, but not enough for lunch on its own. The staff was generally attentive. I wasn't a fan that their portable pay system didn't show you the breakdown before paying, but the print out was fine. Otherwise a place for kids. Mickey Mouse pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage or bacon with drink at a reasonable price. Also a good place to get some energy out at the play place. Only wish they had seating near the play place to let the kids play more, although I could see that being quite warm. read more

We absolutely love this place! Not only is it perfect for kids, the food is absolutely delicious!!!! Best fried pickles and we love the fresh salads too!! Our kids love the kids meals and ice cream it comes with and enjoy the playground. We also love the live music they have weekly! Highly recommend! read more

Came here last weekend to grab some breakfast after a early morning Zilker session for our puppy. I love how pet friendly the patio is, they have endless treats, water, and poop bags for use. I will say, it's not fun after rain though bc the dogs will get extremely wrecked in the dirt/mud. But other than that, Waterloo was extra accommodating and friendly, I ordered 1 migas taco, which is a mixture of eggs, cheese, and tortilla inside a flour tortilla. I recommend saucing it up because flavors were a bit bland. The avocado toast was delicious. I liked that I could order a half order for variety, but next time I'll just get the full order bc it was so good. It seemed like the restaurant is back hosting 100% capacity but all employees were wearing masks so I felt safe. Especially outdoors. Hope to be back soon! read more

But today was different.. we got there around 10:00 and let them know we had a big party ( 16 people) they said 11:00 would work.. well 11:00 came and they were very annoyed at us! Our tables were not ready until 11:39 and some people couldn't stay for lunch. The manager was very rude to us about the tables. We gave them ample time. What a great establishment in South Austin. I know from friends that have lived here for a long time that this place is a long time staple in the Austin area even though this is an expansion store and not the original in North Central Austin. It's bar food but it is a little bit better and definitely on the upper end of what you typically would expect. All the fried food is exceptional and has the perfect amount of breading and is fried to a Golden crisp. The tater tots and the breakfast items are also very well done. So many options to choose from I don't think you'll be disappointed! read more

Waterloo is a great place to have brunch. The place was packed so there was around a 20 minute wait until a seat was available. The chicken fried steak breakfast platter was alright. The steak was lacking a bit flavor and was slightly harder to chew. I do not have a picture of the chicken fried chicken and that was spectacular! The bacon was crispy and the biscuits were amazing. The gravy wasn't the best but that could just be me. The hash browns were crispy but could've been better. I wouldn't get the chicken fried steak again but the chicken fried chicken is where it's at. read more

Coming here for over a decade. Kids used to play outside on the playground/fort We had a drink and an app just inside where we good still keep an eye on them. Fast forward to last week and 2 of our sons had drinks and apps with us while we watched part of the football game. Pretty nice for a spot to be both good with small kids and adults. My husband and I had never ordered takeout from Waterloo so we decided to do so Tuesday. I had the tortilla crusted catfish with fried and coleslaw. My husband had the chicken ranch tacos. My husband said his was "okay " but my catfish was tasteless, the French fries appeared to be old and the coleslaw bland. On top of the excessive prices for subpar food they charged $2.30 to bag it. My first time at this location tonight, I stayed about 2 minutes if that and left, & I won't be back; which won't be that upsetting to the bartender/host working from how it felt. I have been to waterloo icehouse a few times at different locations and loved it. This was my first time attempting to go this location near where I live, to have a drink and read a few chapters of my book with my dog now that the sun had gone down. I showed up at 9p with my dog and as soon as I walked in, the dark semi-long haired bartender (I assume he was also seating people because he was at the host stand) stopped talking to a customer picking up a to go order & said "our kitchen is closed". Caught off guard, I said "I thought you all closed at 10, I just wanted a drink." He then said "well you can have a drink, but there are no more servers here." Confused by his statement & that he said they had no servers- I asked if I could still get a drink, & if they allowed dogs inside, seeing as I had my dog with me; & because it was so abruptly awkward from the beginning- I asked if that would be okay & said that I didn't want to be a hassle. He then said "you can sit out on the patio, but I'm not going out there." He said all this in front of another customer that was picking up a to go order & I got embarrassed at how dismissive he was. Being a server for 10 yrs+ myself; I felt like he was making a point to let me know he did not want to serve me & I felt like I was either inconveniencing him; or he was annoyed that I was even wanting to come in. I was so uncomfortable in front of both of them I chose to just leave and told him, "I guess it sounds like a hassle," & said I would go somewhere else and walked out. I was embarrassed at feeling like I got a negative vibe for even coming in at 9p the moment I walked in. Yes, they close at 10- but I just wanted a drink and to sit out with my dog for a bit and read for an hour. I had just gotten some bad news, and ended up just going home instead and it ruined the last bit of my night I tried to salvage by trying to relax. It was uncomfortable to feel like I was turned away in front of another customer just because I walked in an hour to closing and wanted to sit on the patio for one drink.
