I have loved the Waterloo restaurant for 30 years. To meet is always been delicious and a recent trip to Akron proves that it still is. I absolutely cannot leave Akron without a bite of the cream from one of their famous giant Bavarian cream puffs. Recently, I had supper with my niece at the Waterloo. Although she lives in Akron Ron, it was her very first time there. She got the cheese and pepperoni pizza (without pepperoni lol) I got the chicken breast supper. Both were delicious. I can no longer have the cream puff itself, but was able to secure some of the cream from the cream, puff prior to it being piped in as a special little dessert since I am gluten-free it was just as transcending as I remember. Our server was patient, generous and funny. The ambience has had a little bit of an update in 30 years. I thought it was clean and brighter. If you want a hearty meal at a decent price in a nice clean restaurant with great service go to the Waterloo. read more

The Waterloo is an Akron icon. We went for their Prime Rib night. My wife and I both got the side salad with the White French Dressing. Of course we got their famous sauerkraut balls. I got the prime rib for dinner my wife got the pork chop. The service was good, nothing overly great. The restaurant shows its age, but still has its icon charm. Overall a very good meal. Only negative was they were sold out of their Giant Homemade Cream Puffs, we had hoped to share one for dessert. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. Was here for the Mother's Day buffet and the service and food was absolutely horrible down to the drinks. Everything is definitely frozen and the pop was flat. I don't know if the waitress was high or just incompetent but do better. I will never be back. read more

Took a group of 11 to Waterloo, around 3:30pm on a Sunday. Waitress came over right away, made a big deal about us being patient with her because they were so busy (Restaurant was not even half full). Someone (not the waitress) brought our beverages. After our orders were taken, it was almost 50minutes and we had not seen the waittess at all. Other tables were being waited on by other people. We had to go look for an employee to give us refills on beverages. At about an hour, the waitress brought out bread and salads. Another 20 minutes later our food came out, half of which was cold. I would expect our orders to take a little longer since we were a large group, but there were hardly any other customers in the restaurant. The worst part is that someone told us not to go there because the service is horrible, but we had been there before and liked the food. When I paid my bill, I told the cashier the service was terrible and we would not be back. She said she was sorry, they were short staffed, but it seemed like they had plenty of employeed walking around for a couple of tables. read more

Visited with three family members. The Waterloo was clean, and the service was good. Among us, we had a 2-piece chicken dinner, fish and chips, appetizer platter and salad. Everyone thought the food was good but not outstanding. The white French dressing is definitely a winner. Our visit was on a Friday evening between 5 and 6:30. The place was nearly deserted. My take on the reason is value. Prices are not outrageous, but just a couple of dollars per entree higher than I would expect. To back up my opinion we drove by an Italian restaurant up the street from Waterloo where value is their strong point. The place appeared packed based on cars in the parking lot. Went to waterloo for the 3rd year on a row for an annual holiday get together. It's always decorated for Christmas and it's so cute! A couple of us ordered the prime rib and while it was really good we had to send it back for a warm up. Our server was efficient and helpful and a fun time was had by all! read more

A week ago my husband traveled to Akron for some business. Remembering Waterloo's awesome cream puff, I asked him to pick me one up. After returning home I had to just get a quick fingerful of the cream... I don't know what happened but it didn't have that delicious almond/amaretto taste to it. I kept quiet as I didn't want to sway my husbands view and later that evening after dinner I cut between a quarter to a half and served it up with the hot fudge they only filled halfway. So disappointing... you pay almost $10. for this cream puff with minuscule amount of hot fudge and bland cream. Husband didn't like it either... all went into the trash... If this wasn't bad enough. I called twice and after asking for a manager waited 5 minutes both times only to listen to a prerecorded song both times and no one picking backup. I then resulted to an email on their website and that is why I am here sharing this.... They just don't care... Hands down the BEST spaghetti with meat sauce ONLY they removed it from the menu! Great item especially for people who cannot eat cheese. Attended a reception after a funeral. The service and food were very good. 43 of us and our servers handled everything efficiently. The burger and hand cut fries were perfect and somehow they served all If our meals and came out hot. Next time I'm in town I want to try the French onion soup. It looked delicious. Came here tonight for dinner with two family members. We had a blast! The restaurant was decorated for the holidays which created a very festive atmosphere. Once we were seated, someone came to take our drink orders. I had a cranberry drink from the bar menu which tasted great. We shared the award winning homemade sauerkraut balls as an appetizer. Those were delicious. We had to let them cool a bit before eating as they came right out of the kitchen and were hot. They are served with cocktail sauce which I wasn't sure I would like, but I did. The cocktail sauce is a good compliment to the sauerkraut balls. For my entree, I had the haddock which came with cold slaw and Mac and cheese. This is an amazing entree! The cold slaw was freshly made and had a unique taste that I really enjoyed. The Mac and cheese was super creamy! Good balance of cheese sauce to the macaroni. The haddock was delicious too. The portion was HUGE and I had to ask for a box. We couldn't pass up dessert! So we ordered one to split. I highly recommend the cream puff! It's a homemade dessert, including the cream, that was made-to-order and melted in my mouth. The staff was working hard all night. They were very attentive to us, other dine-in customers, and taking care of all the take out orders that people came in to pick up. I can't wait to come back to Waterloo! Came to the Waterloo for Sunday breakfast. I was last here about a year ago; it looks like prices haven't changed nor the breakfast menu. There are fewer choices here than at other places but the food is good and arrived hot. The 3 egg Mediterranean omelet was very good- vegetables with havarti cheese; a nice change from a typical veggie omelet. The side of home fries were great- real sliced, fried potatoes that could have used some seasoning (paprika would be nice). One in our party ordered an omelet with some veggies and cheddar cheese- not on the menu but they made it for her, no problem. I ordered a banana nut muffin; it was large, came to the table hot, and was very good. Other egg dishes for our table were good. I didn't order pancakes because they don't have blueberry pancakes; they do have the option of ordering pancakes covered in sugary, thick blueberry sauce (other flavors too). The stuff that has a gazillion calories and is terrible for your health. Pleasant dining room, comfortable, they seemed to be adequately staffed with friendly-enough staff. We'll be back. read more

We ordered all sorts of stuff, and were not disappointed with anything! I do wish the had regular lemonade for Arnold Palmers. The waitstaff was on top of everything! We didn't have half of our drinks finished before we got refills. This place is so much better than the chain restaurants! Sauerkraut balls are delicious! Ours table had 7 orders of them, and it filled us up! Salads are exactly the way I would prepare them. Salmon was flavorful and well prepared! We are all stuffed! Used to eat here often when John Bahas Sr owned the place. Food had been consistently good and there were unique, delicious sandwiches and desserts. Favorites were the Famous Hamburger, the Cliffhanger, and the Big Apple. These were taken off the menu when the younger Bahas took over the place. Recently, they remodeled and added a bar (had always been alcohol free.) Decided to see what's new. Had a mediocre meal last week. Went back today to see if it had just been an off day. Sadly, today's meal was even worse. Ordered an appetizer of spinach and artichoke dip. Supposed to be served with parmesan pita. The triangles were not pita; they appeared (and tasted) like deep fried pie crust. Appetizer didn't appear until we were already served our dinner. There were only 6 other diners in the place so the kitchen wasn't busy. Fried chicken was dry and mashed potatoes were stiff. Gravy was clear, bright yellow and tasted like right out of a jar. Mac and cheese (which claims to be made with a 5 cheese blend and used to be creamy with Gouda) was awful. The pasta was mushy and the sauce was bright orange, sticky, and tasted like the cheese served with nachos. SO disappointed. read more

I've been coming here since 2018 and love it. Their food is delicious, service is excellent, and the desserts are perfecto. I usually get a burger, keto special, or marinated chicken. All excellent and can't wait to get back this way again. read more

We have eaten at and ordered from The Waterloo for many years and until recently we always enjoyed all of the food and service. The last two times we have ordered carryout meals something or both meals are not ready when I arrived, the most recent time I was told that they had a big rush during my order and wait time and order was missed. There was only one family of four in the restaurant when arrived. I waited an additional 17minutes for my two salads. When I got home to enjoy my overdue dinner I was upset to find my antipasti salad was made with 90% iceberg lettuce. I ordered this because I had it before and it excellent. I am very disappointed with both most recent food, and service and the management need to fix this good family restaurant. read more

First of all, we walk in and the girl didn't even say hello. Didn't even look at us. We paid $13.99 for stuffed cabbage with mashed potatoes and the potatoes were boxed - disgusting! Didn't even cone with a salad for that price. We paid extra for a salad. The salad and bread are the only good thing. This place was super disappointing. Wish I could give zero stars. I have since dined here several more times and my opinion had changed just as my last few experiences here have. The crowd is mostly the same but diluted somewhat with a number of business people for lunch. The service today was exceptional as was my lunch choice..... Real homestyle fried chicken it was so good I may never ordered anything else going forward from the menu here. Okay I did the right thing maybe my previous visits were bad days I don't think that was the case but anyway I think they raised the bar themselves so kudos to these guys for stepping up and I will return without hesitation. The best breakfast we've had in the Akron area! Very affordable, good service, and very accommodating. We had reservations for 13 and they put us in a back room. We were able to enjoy ourselves without worrying about disturbing other diners. My husband got a standard 2-egg breakfast with ham, and I got the South Akron skillet. Both were delicious!
