I'm not Emma U. and I'm not going to be mean to the Water Monkey. Nor am I going to drone on about rich people and poor people. This is a clothing store. There's a ton of t-shirts, cool tops made out of recycled plastic bottles and bamboo fibers, hats that look like sock monkeys, and other cool things. If it was legal to sell head gear, I think you'd find that here too. If you like the Odd Showroom and Cool Jewels, you might find something fun in this store. For me it was too loud and there was too much incense in the air, but if this is the store for you, you'll be okay with it. It's easy to miss this store because it's on Vaughan Mall, but just know that it's across the street from Bull Moose and you'll find it. I'm disappointed that they wouldn't let me take a picture of their sock monkey hat. I know at least one of you would have gone in there to buy it.. read more

This place is an amazing little shop. The owner, I believe his name was Roger, absolutely fantastic soul! They handpick all their jewelry and items and you can tell he has so much passion for what he does and offers! I love supporting businesses and business owners who care about their products and their customers! They got a beautiful Peruvian Opal ring that I'm super stoked about! It's beautiful. I am definitely going to be mean in this review, simply because it needs to be said. I will never understand why hippie clothes are as expensive as designer garments! I understand that some are made from more greener material,... all the more why they should be affordable to the average person. Its crazy nowadays, anything that is for good is immediately taken up by the rich people and then they make other people (poor people) feel inadequate by making them feel bad for not owning the good things. I've never seen anything good as in "organic" that is affordable to the poor, though really the inspiration is derived from the poor. ( i am not making sense i know...). Yeah so back to Watermonkey, those T-shirts with Bob Marley, I can find thousands of those shirts NYC in chinatown with a better design and price tag. read more

People, people, people. Save you social commentary for the editorial pages. This store is one of the reasons I head to Portsmouth. I may not buy anything, but then again I may. My son hooked me up with this store 5 or 6 years ago. The visit here is the experience of a great staff, some cool threads not made by 8 year olds in a foreign sweatshop. Watermonkey is a fun filled store with great energy. The shop has something for everyone from beautiful hand fashioned dresses to tshirts made in the USA, yes the USA folks. Cotton clothing for men and women. Large jewelry collection. $8.00 sunglasses that sell for 3 times the amount at your big retailer. I like the concept of clothing that is good for the environment and sweatshop free. Yes may be a few dollars dollars but means the world to the worker that had to make the garment. Don't be so entitled and removed that you miss the point of this shop. The world needs move awareness. The store has a sign up "Be Here Now". I think this is the point of the no cell phone or camera rule. Be here and enjoy your moment instead of telling a friend on the phone about it. You get what you put in. read more
