This was our first time at the meat center. We loved it. From the cute decor along the store to the fresh clean feel of it. Love supporting local and little hometown shops so it was nice to get our meat from them. The guy who helped was nice and they had many premade options it's hard to choose which to try. Good prices as well.

Pecan pie and a crumb apple crumb.

Three days before Thanksgiving, I bought a Pecan pie and an apple crumb. The Pecan pie looked overcooked, but I was optimistic. It is old, hard, and hard to chew. Just awful. Thank God I tried it before my guests arrived so that I could get this somewhere else. They said they will give me a refund. The Apple is not overcooked, and the apple slices are fresh and crunchy, my favorite. The crumbs are okay and typical. The crust was stuck to the caramelized sugar around the rim, and the base of the pie remained in the pan, as shown in the picture. I should end the review here, but I dug in to try it. It wasn't bad, so if you cut a piece, go back in for the bottom crust. These pies are expensive, and the chaos we drill through to make the holidays happen is quite taxing. I know I'd prefer to be making confident choices as I fly through my trusted market. From what I'm reading, the Watertown Meat Center can teeter totter with even some of the more exquisite market purchases. Don't go on autopilot. EYES OPEN.

Super friendly staff and equally fresh foods! Personally they don't carry everything we need for a weekly shopping trip so we ultimately do have to go to another larger "grocery store" however their specialty items make so we keep coming back. They source their fish through a local Fish market which we love knowing they also support great quality local businesses. Their meat has always been incredibly fresh and reasonably priced. We love their crockpot dinners (fresh/frozen) to accommodate busy families. Parking can be tight but it's well worth it. They also update their Facebook weekly with all their specials which we appreciate when making a shopping list!

    Italian combo? Yes.

On our first visit we ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and Wild Turkey. The service was so good, all of the guys behind the deli made sure everyone was promptly assisted. When I lifted the bag of our 2 sandwiches, it was as heavy as a brick!! The sandwiches were so big we split one for lunch and one for dinner. The winner was the pulled pork, but we loved the turkey too. We returned a couple of days later for another pulled pork sandwich and I also ordered a giant dill pickle I saw on the counter. This place also has a huge selection of raw meats and prepared foods and a bunch of random local goodies and sauces to try. Again, I wish I took a picture of my sandwich, but I forgot about the existence of my phone while I was enjoying it :)

I know it's Avon, but prices here are outrageous. I was looking at the ground venison & elk,…read moreneither one had prices listed (on the product itself or anywhere around the fridge). So the counter person took them back up to the register to check the prices, they were in the $23 & $24 range for 14 ounces. That's double the price I pay for ground venison and ground elk at the Litchfield Locker, the prices there are $11.99/lb (venison) & 10.99/lb (elk) respectively. So, needless to say, I just wasn't interested in being fleeced, no thanks. I won't be returning.

Meat and Co is a creative sandwich shop in New Haven's upscale East Rock Market Food Hall. If you…read morenotice the sign, you'll see they've rotated the lower case "a" in "Meat" so it's upside down. Think of it as a culinary warning that they don't do things the normal way. I've had two sandwiches from Meat and Co. on two separate visits in 2025. The first was the Haute Tuna Melt. The tuna salad itself was good. It has some hot pepper and chive flavor. The tuna sandwich was on a panini-pressed ciabatta roll. I prefer some type of grilled sliced bread, which I think is more common, for a tuna melt. But that's fine. The biggest miss for me was the cheese. The American Cheese was not at all melted. So it's really just a tuna fish sandwich with American Cheese, Lettuce and Tomato. Good for what it was, but it wasn't a Tuna Melt. The second was The Rick Reuben. It must be more "Rick" than "Reuben". because it is the least "Reuben" Reuben sandwich I've ever had. It had pastrami, which is acceptable for a Reuben. That was about it. Instead of kraut, they had a mild red cabbage slaw. Instead of Swiss, they had cheddar. Instead of grilled rye bread, it was on a long panini-pressed pretzel roll. Admittedly, I didn't pay careful attention to the menu description because Reubens usually fall into one of a small number of types, and I like them all. Although, the online menu I saw did not reference the pretzel roll. This sandwich was too far away from any accepted form of Reuben to be called a Reuben. If it had been called a Pretzel Pastrami Melt, which is far more accurate, I wouldn't have ordered it. It was fine for it was. The pastrami was average though. Given how much I like the other East Rock Market vendors, I'm unlikely to return. If you go, pay close attention to the menu and maybe ask questions. 3.25 Stars

He was in his phone the whole time. I asked if it was a panini and he said "no, ciabatta". I ordered a Voodoo chicken which was supposed to be spicy but it was disappointing with no flavor . My husband ordered a steak and cheese and the steak was cheap cut mostly gristly. Our paninis were not toasted, COPD AND HARD BREAD and I'm not sure why as they have the equipment to do it. We also ordered fries but the person refused to make them and said " I don't have any ready ". Okay but can you get some ready? He was extremely lazy and didn't want to work. Cold hard ciabatta with sub par ingredients. $40!! 2 sandwiches. We will not be back . Extremely poorly managed. Lazy employee and sub par ingredients.

I got a Reuben and potato salad on my first visit. Super tasty pastrami - not lean at all but really tender and flavorful fat. The potato salad doesn't taste like any potato salad I grew up eating (dill? turmeric maybe? not my usual spice choices) but I liked it a lot! I'm looking forward to going back and I'll update this review as I do. Check their website for a menu.

Many people have told us to go here for steaks, sandwiches, cold cuts and Italian specialties…read more We got a Turkey combo sandwich and a roast beef grinder, and split pea soup. But I wanted to eat *everything!* I ordered a half-pound of pastrami - it was on sale and I had the ingredients for Reubens at home. The grinder rolls could've been better. The meats were very, very good. The roast beef is wonderful! The place is out of the way for us, but we've always had a great experience seeking out roast beef made by a meat market. Now, in our area, there's a lot of competition in this segment. There are three really good Italian deli/butcher markets in and adjacent to New Britain. More in Bristol and Hartford. All of the meats and delicatessen we could see looked great. There's an array of specialties on the grocery shelves, in the coolers and freezers that I found tantalizing. The store could've been neater and cleaner. Some of the meats in the butcher case were tired - so tired I asked if the T-bone was dry aged. It is not. Now, one thing I like is that all the meats are cut to order - and you pay dearly for this service. The meats are choice, not prime. They have a wholesale meat operation, too. They make freezer paks: twenty pounds or more of various steaks, ground meat, roasts and stew for $99. It's a good deal. New Britain's Mayor once posted on FaceBook that she buys these all the time. The counter people were achingly slow. We waited ten minutes for the person before us, and his order of three sandwiches was already well underway when we arrived. Then it took fifteen minutes to prepare our order. By the time we finally got in the car to go, over half an hour had gone by. All in all it was $29. Those who read our Yelps are aware we often spend far more on meals. On the way out best buddy checked for the pastrami - for a nibble. They had forgotten it. Now, they'd not charged me for it. They told me this, so when we went home, just for kicks I got out the take-out menu we picked up in the store and discovered why our 12" grinders ended up costing $1 an inch. One Catanzaro's competitor gives a similar sandwich - for less. The other is 30% higher, but 100% higher in quality. Two stars - plus an extra star for the cute, old-school market, and because we didn't try the meats. We will return for just that. It is my hope that the butcher side justifies yet another five-star business in New Britain!
