I have to give some well-deserved love to the butcher team at the Watertown Meat Center. If you're someone who enjoys cooking (or just enjoys eating really good meat), this place is a gift to have in town. The quality is consistently excellent, but what really sets them apart is that they actually have real butchers behind the counter who know their craft and are happy to help you find -- or cut -- exactly what you're looking for. Case in point: this weekend my youngest son decided he wanted picanha for dinner. Not exactly the most common suburban grocery store request. I walked up to the counter fully prepared for the usual "we might be able to order that for next week" conversation... and within moments they had it cut and ready for me. Boom. Dinner plans saved. Their meat case and selection are honestly elite. Beautiful cuts, great variety, and the kind of quality that makes you want to cook something ambitious. I'll also admit that in some of my past reviews I've had a little "constructive feedback" for other departments in the store. Let's just say I'm slowly making my amends. But the butcher shop? They've been consistently fantastic. Great service. Great product. Real expertise. We're lucky to have a place like this in town. read more

It's a meat market for sure, but it's also a nice smallish grocery that serves the community. The focus is on meats, and they seem to offer for sale an excellent variety of meats -- nice looking steaks -- with mostly higher quality than we've found in area groceries. They have butchers who can cut the meats as you prefer, where in too-many chain groceries lots of the choices have already been sliced up. They have a nice selection of prepared sandwiches, and the aisles are stocked with just about everything you'd find at your local Stop and Shop, although their aisles are much close together. Prices? Not too different from a larger store, higher for some of the meat, but you're getting better cuts here, in our opinion. In sum, not for everybody maybe, but it's a well-run local shop and we like their offerings. read more

Three days before Thanksgiving, I bought a Pecan pie and an apple crumb. The Pecan pie looked overcooked, but I was optimistic. It is old, hard, and hard to chew. Just awful. Thank God I tried it before my guests arrived so that I could get this somewhere else. They said they will give me a refund. The Apple is not overcooked, and the apple slices are fresh and crunchy, my favorite. The crumbs are okay and typical. The crust was stuck to the caramelized sugar around the rim, and the base of the pie remained in the pan, as shown in the picture. I should end the review here, but I dug in to try it. It wasn't bad, so if you cut a piece, go back in for the bottom crust. These pies are expensive, and the chaos we drill through to make the holidays happen is quite taxing. I know I'd prefer to be making confident choices as I fly through my trusted market. From what I'm reading, the Watertown Meat Center can teeter totter with even some of the more exquisite market purchases. Don't go on autopilot. EYES OPEN. read more

Best quality meats around. Everything is always fresh. I would rather get my meats from here than a big chain supermarket because they have better cuts of meat and you know the meat hadn't been sitting in the case for days. The meat and deli sections always have customers which is always a good sign in my book. Staff are attentive and always friendly. They also have a lot of take out foods that are already pre made in house. Another thing I like is that you can be added to their email list and the owner emails you all the upcoming specials and prices for the week. Personally they don't carry everything we need for a weekly shopping trip so we ultimately do have to go to another larger "grocery store" however their specialty items make so we keep coming back. They source their fish through a local Fish market which we love knowing they also support great quality local businesses. Their meat has always been incredibly fresh and reasonably priced. We love their crockpot dinners (fresh/frozen) to accommodate busy families. Parking can be tight but it's well worth it. They also update their Facebook weekly with all their specials which we appreciate when making a shopping list! read more

Directed here by an ad in a tourist magazine, I was at first disappointed to see it was more of a small mid-range supermarket than a destination butcher shop. That being said, I thought the quality price ratio was on point. From the meat counter we chose a stuffed flank steak, ground sirloin and store made breakfast sausages. All three of these were excellent with the trophy going to the flank steak, which cooked up very well, retaining most of its cheese. The burger was not too lean, and the sausages had just the right balance of protein to fat. From the deli department we chose chicken salad, a sort of pasta/egg salad and sliced cheese. The chicken salad was fresh but I would have preferred chunks to shredded chicken. I thought the pasta/egg salad was tasty and somewhat unique, sort of like New Orleans egg potato salad. The sliced Cooper cheese was a great value at $5.99 a lb. I wouldn't make a special trip here again from miles away, but if I were local, I'd be a regular. read more

I'm very disappointed - I ordered a smokin turkey wrap - picked it up - while eating I kept wondering why it didn't taste as good as I remember. Then I realized it was missing the barbecue sauce! So I called and talked with in the sandwich shop and all they said was, "Oh I forgot! Sorry!" Geez, the barbecue sauce with the crispy onions and bacon and turkey are so so yummy! As far as I'm concerned, there's is literally nothing more awesome than a small local business, run by awesome local people. I admittedly go out of my way to support these places, but thing to note is that it's not JUST because it's a local business; it's because the product is awesome, and makes me happy. I'll pay extra for happiness, because...it's happiness. The Meat Market is one of my favorite places ever. Tiny little market, small aisles, fresh food, and cuts of meat that are almost too good to be real. It's old school, personalized service that you can rarely find anywhere in this day and age. I mean, sure...Stop and Shop has steaks, and they might be a $1 cheaper; trust me when I tell you, there's a difference in quality that's worth way more than a dollar. Outside of the steaks, the deli in the back makes ridiculously amazing grinders, and the cabinet with the packages sides is like a freaking candy store for me. Here's what you do. Plan a meal around meat, go to the Meat Center, buy said meat, buy some sides, pick up some paper towels if you need them, then go home and make your stomach happy. We get meat here once a week. The quality of all the meat is top notch! I have been to other stores that charge way more and the meat is terrible. The prices here are reasonable and they have a great selection. We alway get the prime rib and New York strip they are phenomenal the meat center is the only place my family will buy meat. I picked up a take-out container of "shrimp scampi," which cost $7.67. When I heated it up, it turned out that there were only two, tiny shrimp in the entire meal, which should have been called "shrimp skimpy." When I told them I was dissatisfied, they told me that "all meals are packed in clear containers so you can always see what you are purchasing." However, my shrimp skimpy had the two shrimp right on top, so I could NOT clearly see what I purchased because it was deceptive. I guess I was supposed to have X-ray vision to see how I was being ripped off. They were not accommodating at all---customer service ethic is strongly lacking. I won't go back. read more

My wife stopped in for cold cuts the other day and both the store made roast beef and rotisserie turkey were horrible. I don't think I've ever had roast beef that was so dried out and flavorless. The same thing with the turkey. We would have definitely returned but since we don't live close by it's not worth it. Pretty unfortunate considering they're a meat store. I have been a regular customer to this store for over 10 plus years. I live in Watertown and try and support the local stores. While the service has normally been good, I feel it has deteriorated over the past few months and got even worse in recent weeks. My first order during The Covid19 scare 3 weeks ago was missing 3-4 items and I was given one incorrect item I did not order. The owner did give me the chicken I was missing, but I didn't let her know about the other items I was charged for. Lastly last Sunday I placed an order and when I received a call on Tuesday that my order was in and that I would receive a call when I could pay and pick it up. That call never happened and I when I sent a polite email asking for the status I was told I would be called when my order was ready. I never heard from them again. read more

You can go in there and tell the guys behind the counter that you want 2 chicken legs, 3 pieces of bacon, 4 scallops, 5 shrimp, 1 pork chop etc. that's the best thing about coming to a small family owned business like this. They have the least expensive cold cut prices in the area! Land O'Lakes cheese for instance! $3.99 a pound for the same exact one Stop & Shop robs people for at $7.99 a pound! The store made food is delicious! They carry Big Dipper Ice Cream and the crockpot bag meal are the absolute best thing I've ever come across. They're in a big gallon size bag and all you have to do is dump it in the crock pot & turn it on before you go to Work to have a delicious wholesome meal midweek! This is the epitome of an old time family owned and run establishment. The cuts of meat from the butcher section are excellent. There is a plentiful selection of everyday (and some specialty) items on the shelves for that quick stop on the way home. But the thing that sets this place apart for me by far is the hand made items in the "to go section. These are perfect when I meet the wife for a quick lunch on her break. The salads (regular, caesar, antipasto, pasta, seafood, etc.) are all delicious! The sandwiches are all made fresh and I have yet to be disappointed. The best part is that it doesn't break the bank. While the limited selection doesn't make it a major shopping stop for weekly or monthly groceries, it is a nice change of pace from the specialty stores with their high prices.
