I'd give zero stars if I could. I STRONGLY caution everyone to pay close attention to the negative reviews. People don't waste their time to post negatively unless they have a reason for it. My experience left me believing they are more driven towards profit than they are about the pets and families. I had been looking for a boarding kennel and was referred to this one as awesome. Not!! The other end of that actually with only one other pkace beneath them right now (my next review). The weekend I called the kennel I was told of all the expectations which my dogs fit and I would have my vet fax over the details Monday. Before I could, the (young) "manager" called me to tell me that if my over ten year old dog wasn't a client of their clinic they wouldn't board her. You heard that right. I've spent over $1,000 to have my dogs vaccinated, with all fluid panels and tests so waterville could tell me that I'd have to switch to their clinic to board my dogs. WHO DOES THAT????? That is blatantly stealing business from other vets!! That is absurd and unacceptable to me. Cut throat nonsense right there. If you value ethics and business values, you should look elsewhere. Funny thing is, this over ten year old dog???? They had her brother listed on their records. I got both of them together and he passed away in 2020 from Lyme disease. When I got her a new playmate it was covid and waterville wouldn't allow me to add her so I went elsewhere. They are just bad to the bone I'm telling you all. read more

Both Dr Gilchrists are absolutely wonderful Vets. They are so knowledgeable and kind. We are so fortunate to have them in this area.

We lost our 1 year old spunky cat named Belle yesterday morning. She was an established patient of the Waterville clinic since a baby. It started with a flea treatment 15 days ago. She was given steroid shot and oral medication. 10 days later she became very ill . We took her in for an emergency visit. She was sent back home with an elevated fever and the suspicion of her having viral infection. 3 days later she deteriorated so bad I called and asked for another emergency visit. She was lethargic, stopped walking, stopped eating and pooping for 5 days, and had labored breathing. Bloodwork was done and ruled as her having an infection that required 10 day antibiotics. No further testing or questioning of maybe this was an adverse reaction to the steroid and she should be further monitored. I gave her the 1st dose of antibiotics. At 4am we rushed her to Syracuse Veterinary hospital that was opened 24/7. She took her last breath just 10 mins away from their hospital. They performed an ultrasound and confirmed her heart stopped beating. She has severe jaundice in ears and gums indicating liver failure. Severe fluid buildup around heart and lungs causing her heart to go into distress and fail. She was just seen by the vet at Waterville clinic prior to this. How could this have happened and missed ??!! We were failed. Our fur baby was failed. This shattered my children and our lives. The whole experience is nauseating to recount. No accountability. All the red flags were missed ! Waterville saw her twice in 5 days?! I reported her death to the office the following day. We still have no heard from anyone or received phone call of sympathy or condolences. Heart wrenching. But they got their payout for all the fees we were charged. I hope this post comes across to those who are researching a vet office . I would avoid this office !! Had we done our research and read other people reviews, we could have been still cuddling up with our beautiful fur baby Belle today. read more

We have brought both of our dogs to Waterville for years. In more recent time it feels like more and more of a racket. The added charges on everything are getting crazy. After our dog had surgery which was quite expensive, we had to return and pay an office call just to have stitches out. With what we had paid I would've thought that was covered in all the fees. The real kicker was finding a stitch left in the incision when we got home. The final straw is the policy that they will no longer approve medications being purchased elsewhere. We save hundreds of dollars a month purchasing medications for our older dogs through Chewy. They refuse to send scripts, approve prescriptions or even mail a script which is a complete about face from previous policy. The only possible way to purchase a med elsewhere is to pick up a hand written script after requesting it several days in advance and then mailing it in ourselves. Our poor dog had to lapse the meds for her arthritis pain because of this crazy policy change. It's clear that they want us to simply purchase their meds which are significantly more expensive than purchasing elsewhere and not ask questions. We were loyal to Waterville for years and have recommended them many times. However, we are now on the hunt for a new vet. Who can afford all these added fees to stay with them? We definitely feel more and more like a commodity and not like people/ a family while there. It's disappointing to see how rude, careless and money hungry the practice has become. I recently switched from a local vet I've been with for well over 20 years to Waterville vet. It was the best move I could have made !!! We saw Dr. Gilchrist and the experience was a 10 out of 10. He was understanding yet realistic, they took my cat for sedated tooth removal during the appointment ( no scheduling for a later date) , and no extras that my old vet would have 100% tacked on . I left the office knowing my animal was taken well care of without a doubt & I wasn't being over charged by any means. Sometimes sticking with a place just because it's familiar isn't the smartest move. I am very pleased with Waterville vet & will be trusting them with all my fur family from here on out. read more

Since we adopted two Pandemic Puppies, we knew we'd want someone knowledgeable, personable, and who could educate us and keep our dogs healthy along this journey. Kerri Hudson, DVM, came highly recommended by friends. I'm happy to say she's lived up to her excellent reputation. Examples are that she made recommendations for articles to read about things like timing of neutering; house-training; and the embarrassing issue of humping. The Clinic has protocols for operation during COVID. Check in and care was efficient and simple. Fees seem reasonable, especially for the quality of care given. read more

EVERY doctor has been outstanding, I do not know how they manage to have so many exceptional doctors and support staff but they do. Most recently Dr. Alyssa Cornelius was quick to locate an injury to our small cairn terrier's leg and was very helpful. I wish I could give them zero stars. I brought my dog there yesterday in the morning to be checked. She had started to labor about 12am that morning and didn't seem to be progressing. While there in the morning all the puppies were healthy so we decided to give Pitocin a try. She seemed to have progressed a little from it. At about 4 o'clock I decided to bring her back. I waited in the parking lot for 45 minutes. When we went in we did an ultrasound and were told all puppies hearts looked good and healthy besides one was declining close to being in distress. We then decided to do the emergency c section to make sure momma was safe and puppies. I was supposed to be able to pick her up at 7:30-8pm but I did not receive a call. I called at 8:15 asking if I should just come and pick her up or what was going on because no one had called me. They then tell me that they had just started... this was three hours after they said it was an emergency and were going right in for surgery. I continued to call and get no update or even a call back. At 10:30pm I couldn't take it anymore. I had no clue if my dog was okay. I needed to know what was going on so I drove there. When I got to the Waterville Vet they were incredibly rude to me. I continued to try to explain why I was upset. Not knowing what was going on or if my dog was even alive. They made me sit in the waiting room for 20 more minutes with no information. Anytime I tried to ask something the owner would talk over me and say the vet would be with me. He would not let me explain anymore and continued to talk over me. When I finally was called into a room at about 11:30pm they told me how 4 puppies had passed out of 6. I understood things happen and maybe if I could have at least had a call I'd feel differently. I was given no information on what was going on. I was just continually told that they lost power which is what caused the delay and why they couldn't call me. I just think this is unacceptable behavior. No one should have to drive to their vet at 10:30pm to see what is going on with their dog and if they are okay. I do not want anyone else to go through this. I was beside myself just trying to get a call back about my dog. Please share this because I want more people to know how Waterville Vet treat their clients. I feel as though if the power caused the delay they should have at least called me to see if I wanted to bring her someplace else to try and save the puppies. read more

It was great until they started making you take a same day appointment and pay the extra money OR you have to wait over a month to get in. Guess they got greedy. Why do I have to pay the emergency fee when it is not a dire emergency, or wait 5-6 week to get in. Seems like a scam so we can pay the extra money! read more

I needed a vet that could help me with getting my little guys paperwork for traveling overseas. I wish I could remember the gentleman's name, he was wearing glasses and I'm going to assume he was Canadian judging by the way he spoke. He was extremely kind and helped us with every single step, including doing the research for us. I will be coming back because of him when we are back in town. I wish Yelp allowed these to go up to 10 stars. That's how good they are. They saved our dog's life. And even if they really didn't, to us they did. Our dog was blindsided by another dog and sustained what we now know was a neck injury that led to surgery later in the week at Cornell. Dr. James Gilchrist was there waiting for us at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night as we carried our girl in, unsure why her eyes were beat red, her breathing was heavy and she was unable to stand. He did a great job of stabilizing her and kept her overnight. When she was unable to stand the next day he recommended she needed an MRI. As we waited the painfully long 48 hours to get an MRI for Apple, Dr. Gilchrist and his team took care of our dog and even came to open up at 3:30 in the morning due to the early morning MRI in Rochester. Our dog is now on the mend and going through a few more weeks of crate rest and at-home physical therapy as she recovers from a disc injury. While the care she received down at Cornell for the surgery was top-notch, our longest-lasting memory about how our dog was given the chance to walk again will always be the emergency care that Dr. Gilchrist provided, all at fair prices. read more

I've now dealt with them three times, four if you include having to cancel and reschedule an appointment with them and having that run smoothly. Only the 2nd or 3rd vet I've ever seen that doesn't just roll their eyes when you ask complicated questions and assume your other vet is Doctor Google. (My cat was diagnosed with a tummy issue because I work with vets and the main vet at work said 'try this and if it works you'll know' and it worked, and we knew, and the people we saw in Waterville were just like 'yup, yup, yup, that's the right way, yup.') Other vets have demanded expensive tests for things like that or tried to upsell us. For example, we didn't want our 15 year old cat microchipped because it's a lot of expense for a half-blind old guy who doesn't leave the house, and they never tried to upsell us on it. read more

Above and beyond and by far the absolute best veterinary clinic we have ever had! We are a military family and have lived all over the country and Waterville Vet is the absolute best. We travel a bit to go there but it is well worth it. Their prices are better as well. Very happy with our service and how they have cared for our critters, especially when we had to let two of our older labs go to heaven, they were super with making that a peaceful and gentle experience for us. Excellent vet and great staff! My parents have been taking their dogs there for years and always received excellent care. I now live in NYC and have a dog of my own. She was having a lot of issues with her anal sacs and it would have cost me $2,000 in NYC to have them removed, but it was only a couple hundred at Waterville. Dr. Gilchrist is great - he always takes the time to answer any questions I have clearly and without arrogance. I now call him with any questions regarding my aging "child" rather than the vet I have in NYC because it won't cost me money just to ask a question. Nor will he make me feel like a terrible pet parent if I opt against expensive medical procedures that really wouldn't make much of a difference in my dogs overall health. I just wish I lived closer to be able to access this quality, affordable pet care with more regularity. read more

Took all my animals to this vet for many years and was very happy until recently when i found out Dr Gilchrist sold the practice. Took my pregnant dog there for a c-section on sat aug 19, and the nurses there could not get a vet to come in and do the procedure, because it was a very nice day out. So the dr there(i think she was) did the procedure and sent her home 3 hrs later. The next morning my dog was having complications and i called (as told to do) at 6am sunday morning. The person who answered said bring her in at 10 am because thats when she'll be there. Well my dog died at 8am. Anybody who expects the same care as Dr Gilchrist provided should be aware.. read more

After taking my cat to Waterville Veterinary Clinic last week and being told my cat may have a small infection and his blood work was normal .$185. We took him back this week only to find that he was very sick with Cancer, Huge mass on his stomach. That's right - we were given the wrong information . $330.75 to put our lovely boy down and to pay for cremation . Never again, will never recommend them to anyone . The girl at the front desk acted as if I was checking out at the Grocery store . No compassion - asked for my money as I wiped my tears . Once upon a time they were a great group . Now , it's all about the money -greed. Btw - they offered me a $70 bag of cat food last week after I told them he had stopped eating all together . We are not regular patients of this vet clinic. My cat had to have an ultrasound and our vet clinic doesn't do them. So, I made an appointment with this clinic. I wrote down the appointment which was a few weeks away since they apparently don't do them often. The day before, I got a reminder phone call but it wasn't the correct time. I called back to double check and was put on hold. They had a noon, not 2:30 appointment for us. When we went, we had to wait over an hour and a half before he was taken in. No one ever said anything to us, such as it wont be long, or apologized for the long wait. My cat is 16 years old and nervous going to the vet anyway. After the procedure, a person who introduced herself and said she was a liaison came out to speak to me and said the results would be faxed to my vet clinic. When I paid I asked to have a copy faxed to me as well. I saw the receptionist write it down to have the copy faxed to my number which I gave to her. I was supposed to get it the next day which was a Friday. When I did hear from my vet, I knew the fax had been sent. I didn't get my fax so I called on Monday (I was on hold for at least 10 minutes) and the person who answered the phone said that since my cat was not a regular patient, they didn't have it. She did check and said it had been sent to my vet and they no longer had it. I told her that I specifically had asked for a copy to be faxed to me as well. She told me again that my cat wasn't a regular patient so they did not have a copy. I want to say that maybe he wasn't a regular patient, but they took my $300.00 right then and there with no problem! So, on that day I WAS a paying customer and I don't feel we got top notch treatment for making the appointment, waiting time, holding time on the phone, or getting what I asked for. read more

I am very happy with waterville vet clinic. I have seen three of the five vets there and all of them are great. I've been to vets in the past that make you feel guilty if you don't get a certain vaccine, or you need this or that. They don't push you into anything you don't want. They are laid back, good old fashion country doctors. They answer all of my questions without being arrogant and there prices are very fair. The girls at the front desk are friendly and inviting. I have been taking my dogs and cats there for two years now and wouldn't dream of taking them anywhere else. read more

I live about 45 minutes from the Waterville Vet Clinic and I actually have a vet a few blocks away from my home, but the prices for the services I needed were so good that it was more than worth the drive. I was very glad that I made the trip because the service was as good as the prices. When we arrived with our litter of golden retriever puppies, the staff pretty much stopped doing what they were doing to welcome us and see the pups. The staff were all very friendly and took the time to answer all our questions and explain everything we needed to know in detail. The clinic was very clean and modern, and all the employees we dealt with were very pleasant. I would highly recommend the Waterville Vet Clinic to anyone in need of veterinary services. read more

Our first visit to the Waterville Veterinary Associates with our puppy Ellie exceeded all expectations. The reception staff helped me protect Ellie who isn't fully vaccinated by allowing us to wait outside. The vet tech actually came outside to greet us and lead us to an examine room with its own entrance. Dr. Harfoush was very attentive and answered my long list of questions. He spent extra time educating us and addressing our misconceptions. They advertise emergency service 24/7 and I called on a Saturday evening because our dog started hemmorging out of her nose and they told me to keep her home over night that they couldn't do anything for her. I don't know how a vet can refuse to look at an emergency situation like this. read more

I waited over an hour to see the vet. When I inquired about the wait, the woman behind the desk advised me that the vet that they scheduled my cat with was very busy. She asked if I would like to see another vet, I agreed because I did not choose which vet my cat was scheduled to see anyway. In fact, if I did not go up to the desk to advise the woman that I was still waiting, and animals that came after my cat were being called before my cat, I would have continued to wait even longer. Also, I was over charged for Clavamox, I paid $59.00, but Cavamox cost only $16.00 ( found out later). The vet was supposed to call me with my cats blood work results the next day, but I called several times, since I did not hear from him. Finally, during the evening, the vet called only to say that he was no longer at the office so he would call me with the results when he is at the office the next day. I had informed the vet during the office visit that I thought it was a Urinary Tract Infection because she, my cat, was having difficulty urinating, and the vet said it was possible but he would have to do blood work to make certain. In any event, the office visit and blood work was very expensive, and the vet said the blood work was normal, and he could not give me a reason why my cat had 105 fever. I felt that the vet did not give my cat much attention at all. I am very dissatisfied, but thank God that my cat is much better because of the antibiotic! read more
