They don't work on passenger vehicles anymore. Had spring work done there in the past. They did do a quality job.

Consider me a fan. I know nothing about cars. Well, almost nothing. What I do know is who to trust. And I trust Steve at Larry's Foreign Auto. Years ago, he told me to bring my Mazda5 to Watkins Spring for an alignment. And I did that. It was easy to schedule an appointment. The work was done as promised. The price was as quoted. And instead of sticking around the waiting room, I found some tasty things to eat on Central Avenue. The only tricky part is figuring out where to leave the car when pulling around back. This most recent visit I clearly walked through the wrong door, and had to snake my way through the shop before getting to the office. It was fascinating to see all the trucks up on lifts, and all the mechanics doing their thing. Even though I know nothing about cars, specialized tools are still very cool. This last visit, they didn't even charge me full freight because it turned out the issue I was having wasn't actually an alignment problem. My alignment was fine. At least it wasn't Steve who told me to bring it in this time, this was my own instinct. Like I said, I know nothing about cars. It turned out when I brought the car back to Steve, the problem was with the rear tire. Something about some busted interior cables that made the round wheel more egg shaped? I don't know. All I know is that it's now fixed. And should I ever suspect my alignment is off again, I'm going to bring the car to Watkins Spring. read more

I've been here a few times, mostly for vehicles that are no longer covered by new car warranties. Watkins Spring has honored warranties on work (...a pesky wheel bearing on my wife's mini van was replaced at no charge) without fuss. Today's visit was for a squeal in the front end that turned out to be worn break pads. The mechanic recommended new rotors and pads, and did this work quickly while I waited. Watkins is an "old school" mechanics shop that has been in Albany for decades. If they service what needs fixing on a car, this is a good place to go. read more

My long time mechanic sent me there for work I wanted done. When I picked up the car my bill was one-fourth what I expected to pay. When I inquired the polite staff told me I did not need the "other" work I requested. They had checked out the car and only did what was necessary. Watkins just replace 2 spring stacks in my '02 Dodge Ram. They were up-front with the possibilities. They inspected and managed to keep the main leafs and replace the 3-spring above on both rear sides. Unknown to me half of the leafs in those stacks were broken. I RECOMMEND THEM!!! Would go there again in a heart beat!!!. I went there today for an alignment on my lifted truck, I called that morning and they were able to get me in. There were friendly and very professional. When they did the alignment they found a problem that another shop had likely previously missed. It was not an easy fix but they made the time to fix it right there. A couple hours later and I was back on the road. Never again. Quoted me $450 to install a steering gear, mount and balance 6 tires and align my dually. I only had one day off. They said they could get it all done for me. Mid-day, they call me and say that they can't install my tires due to after market rims and claim that I had two bad ball joints (I had just checked them the week before and they had no play.) they offered a quote to replace them and I had remembered that I had brand new ball joints sitting in the truck that I had purchased if I did need to replace them. I told them to just install the ones I had if it needed it. Suddenly, they couldn't install them that day. So, I come to pick it up without any tires mounted or balanced and they charged me $365 to just install the steering gear that I provided and do their half-assed alignment. Less than $100 to mount and balance 6 tires? I don't think so. Very sketchy place of business. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. They really don't even deserve 1 star. read more

Took my 2000 Jeep Cherokee to have rear leaf springs and shocks installed. They asked me to leave it for the day, dropped it off when they opened at 7am. Picked it up around 330pm when it was done. i went to watkins spring, with an old 54 corvette at 7am with no appointment, asked the owner if he could please fit me in to put ft coil springs in, he went way out of his way to fit me in, which he did, and they were busy, a hot summer day, the mechanic did a great job, great bunch of guys great , old school type garage, not many like this around anymore !!!! 5 star!! read more
