After some Yelp surfing, I placed a call to Lighthouse Flower Shop five minutes before they were scheduled to open, spoke to Lisa, and she treated me like the most important being in the vast galaxy. Nice. Following small talk, chuckles, and giggles -- all confirmation signs, perhaps, from the Universe -- I knew I was in the right place, a precious place. Yes. Thought for a minute about the tone to a measured memo, a nice note, for the card. Then placed my order at a terrific price, and sat back and waited like a precocious plumb nine year old waiting for the magic to happen on Christmas, notwithstanding the ache and pain my friend was embracing and enduring! When I contacted the business, the owner acknowledged that the comment had been entered into their POS/back-office system and stated that it was intended as an internal note. What concerned me most was not only that this was written about a customer at all, but that it was apparently stored in a way that could become customer-visible. The owner's response also focused heavily on defending the employee interaction rather than fully addressing the professionalism of the note itself. I understand businesses get busy and stressful situations happen, especially around holidays. But I do not believe customers should be described this way in company systems or accidentally sent those comments in emails.
