This place was friendly and the food was delicious. It wasn't the best bbq I've had, but it was still very good, huge portions, and a good price for everything we got! My plate came with one meat, two sides, a cookie, a Shasta soda, and a slice of bread. I ate half of it there, boxed it up, and enjoyed the rest as leftovers later. The leftovers were just as tasty!

Friendly service and in a cute hardware shop. Got 4 dinners togo while passing through. They were packed well & Portions are big, and we even had a complimentary fresh baked cookie with each meal. The bbq sauce was very tasty, smokey and sweet (similar to Texas / KC style sauce). The sausage was my favorite of all the meats, with cheese inside of it and it comes from a texas farm. The brisket was moist, both chopped and sliced, and the mac n cheese was very yummy and gooey with white cheddar. Even the side salad was fresh and a good size portion!

MUST SEE Well, if you're traveling through Tucumcari and have a hankering for some barbecue. Watson's barbecue is the place to go. Veteran owned (44 yrs) family run business with great hospitality and service. You cannot beat the old New Mexico charm of this place. They have a large gift shop with Western wear trinkets, supplies and hardware. Reduced hours are from 9 AM to 3 PM and family is getting ready to retire soon. So now is your chance to see a piece of New Mexico history before it's gone.

I came here because of the Yelp reviews. It was my first time going to Tucumcari, and I was really shocked to find such a nice, lively place in an otherwise pretty desolate town. I'm from the South and miss having good barbecue on the West Coast (honestly most barbecue I've had in California looks better than it tastes), so this was a great surprise. The restaurant itself is a small extension of the general store in the front - we went to the restroom and noticed how spotless they were. The owners are a kind elderly couple, and they really seem to love taking care of their customers and making delicious food. We weren't super hungry at the moment but needed a rest stop, so we got a three meat plate and shared it. I knew it was going to be good the moment it came out on a styrofoam plate; the best barbecue always comes on a styroform plate or tray and might have some tinfoil to separate the bread. They were kind enough to provide some extra bread and sauce for us, and we were told that they had unlimited refills in the cooler. As a Southerner, of course I had to have my ice tea with my barbecue! They were out of mac and cheese that day which would have been my top choice, but the potato salad and beans were still excellent! In my opinion, the ribs were the star of the show. Fall-off-the-bone tender, nicely smoked and pink, soft cartilage - they were some of the best ribs I have ever had. The pulled pork was juicy, and the brisket was delicious as well! The sauce they provide is well-balanced and add good flavor without overpowering the already-perfect meat. Anyways, stop by Watson's! It's well worth it, and you'll be rolling out the store wishing you'd gotten a rack of ribs to-go (speaking from experience)!

Always a must when we are back visiting, Watson's is solid all around and is worth stopping in if you are driving through Route 66. Their small dining area is attached to the Ranch Supply store, which is full of great souvenirs and other local items. This place is really one of a kind! We ordered chopped brisket, smoked turkey and smoked sausage along with sides of potato salad and beans. They also include a large container of BBQ sauce - a good mix of sweet and vinegar, just right! All the meats and sides were perfect and like others have said, the staff is very friendly and welcoming.

It's hard to write a review for a place you absolutely love and adore. My gf and I came here on a whim from the yelp reviews and were not let down at all. The generosity of the owners is beyond what you experience in a coastal city, they genuinely enjoy seeing a smile on their customers faces. Everything is amazing, and the green chili cobbler is out of this world. If we ever make it back we will definitely be stopping here!

Stopped here, Tucumcari, driving through New Mexico, and it was a great decision. Great BBQ and Hospitality in a very small town. The gentleman/pitmaster who cooked the food said they are famous for their brisket, ribs and sausage, so that's what we ordered. We ordered the 3 meat meal with sides, Mac n cheese, baked beans and potato salad. Let me say, the meat tasted like they just butchered the steer and hog, very fresh. Everything was great. The sides were homemade and everything was very good. The pitmaster and a lady, who I assumed was his wife, were very kind and friendly.

Definitely a must stop on your way through Tucumcari! It's a little off the main road, but worth the stop. The owners were both the nicest people. Had the brisket po boy daily special with slaw, pickles and onions. It came with chips, cookie and a drink! Sandwich was delicious as was the slaw. Also had to sample the green Chile apple cobbler. That cobbler is amazing, just a slight hint of the green Chile. It has a cute little gift shop attached too! Definitely worth the stop!

Just stopped by Watson's BBQ for lunch. Chopped brisket sandwich & a black cherry cola. This little joint is no joke. The Brisket was moist & flavorful not to smokey with a little BBQ sauce & a bun that was so soft. A little bit of heaven in every bite. The Watson's & staff are super friendly & inviting. Making us feel very welcome. There's a gift shop too. read more

Wow- I know that's not really descriptive, but- wow! My husband said it probably the best brisket he's ever had. The beans were delicious with a little bit a spice. The sausage was green chili and cheese with beef and pork. Jimmy made us a little sampler platter. He also brought out a recipe he was working on, green chili apple cobbler. He can probably stop working, it was amazing. For us , what truly makes a dining experience memorable, and stand out, is the staff. We met the owner, Jimmy and his lovely wife of 45 years. He gave a full menu breakdown and helpful suggestions. His wife got the boys situated with writing their names on the wall, it's a thing there. Not only were the owners welcoming, but the rest of the staff was too. Everyone made us feel super welcome! read more

My goodness! The po-boy with brisket that I had was seriously the best thing that I've eaten in a long time. And the best bbq that I've possibly ever had. You can tell it's made with love! The lady there (sorry I didn't remember her name) I'll call her Mrs. Watson, was so sweet. I love an hour and a half away but I'm thinking I'm going to make this a regular trip. What a gem! About 1.5 miles off of I-40, it's an old Ranch supply market that the owners serve the best BBQ I have had traveling the 40 corridor. I would have taken pictures but we were hungry and did not expect what we got! We split ribs, pulled pork, brisket and sausage. It was Awesome! We had the beans macaroni and potatoes salad, was not disappointed. Homemade bread served with the plates. The owner was friendly and described everything, we tried the apple green Chilies cobbler and it was fantastic. I would heartily recommend this place to eat or take out, just to talk with the owners was worth the stop. I don't normally rave, but here I am! I will be back! read more

1. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the pulled pork which was possibly some of the best pulled pork I've ever had. The food comes on styrofoam plates and you use plastic silverware. 2. The servers were all together friendly and very assertive. If they saw you wondering around they would immediately come up and ask you if you were lost. I found that it made me feel taken a back because at other restaurants servers would take a step back. 3. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of 2 things. a. There were a few misogynistic and inappropriate signs and t shirts hidden around the shop. They aren't noticeable to a passing eye but if one took the time to read them they may feel uncomfortable. b. I felt the shop was unorganized. The servers would come up to you whilst you were in line and have to explain their whole menu process, which could've been explained better on the board so the costumers aren't as dependable on the servers. 4. I wish there was a 4.5 stars because I really enjoyed the food and homey feelings this restaurant had, but those subtle inappropriate signs and unorganized manner, didn't make it a perfect 5 stars. GENUINE BBQ!!! DELISH, YUMMO, MELT IN YOUR MOUTH SMOKEY GOOD FLAVORFUL MEAT!! We had the ribs ( fall off the bone,) pulled pork ( moist and tender), mac & cheese ( creamy), pinto beans ( don't let looks fool you they have a hidden spice to them that was just right) cole slaw ( better than I can make and I make some darn fine slaw), homemade bread ( that I guarantee that you'll buy a loaf to take home like I did) and chocolate chunk cookies -- all included in your meal. I also couldn't resist a couple of donuts that had dark dark chocolate glaze on them that I'd not read about in any review. Had to taste them before I even got my meal and so glad I bought them. Picture attached. This is all in a working hardware ranch supply store. I didn't have time to scope it all out but I'm sure I would have spent more money. If you are even near the Tucumcari area you've got to check this place out. Oh the BBQ sauce is stellar too made in house. read more

YUM!!! This place is so special. I stopped by on my drive from CA to OKC. It's so charming. The woman who helped me was so nice and helpful. The brisket was the best I've ever had. Driving through Texas from Louisiana on our way to New Mexico, we stopped here for an amaaaaaazing lunch. All of us were impressed with our food and the staff was so friendly. We were able to order a gluten free naked burrito to deliciously satisfy a food allergy need, and a brisket and sausage sandwich--both very tasty! We enjoyed eating on the patio--while it was TX hot, there was a big fan to help cool us down and there were some cute cats that hung out with us. read more

A great local place with lots of character, fun things to look at, friendly owners and lots of delicious food choices. We sampled it all...ribs, brisket, frito pie and pulled pork for the meats. We also sampled the beans, Mac and cheese, coleslaw, green salad, potato salad as sides. They had a number of barn cats that entertained us too. I highly recommend! OMG ! This is a wonderful slice of America that won't be around much longer. First of all the owners are fantastic characters that are great to talk to. The place is in the back of a supply store . Me & my friends had a conversation 2 weeks ago about if we've ever been treated like a king before or if we even know what being treated like a king feels like. 2 weeks ago my answer was no, after today my answer is ABSOLUTELY!!! I'm not sure where to start, the food was amazing. The environment was amazing. The way I was treated was amazing. I'm a truck driver so I drive around the US trying different foods.. This was the BEST bbq I've had & it's not even close. I know what comfort foods are supposed to be feel like and this is it. Whenever I'm in town I will make sure to stop here and eat again. What a great place. Make sure you are here before 4:30. We got the last of their smoked meat. We shared brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and ribs. They also gave us a sampling of the green chili apple cobble which sweet heat. The meat was flavorful without being too smoky or saucy. The husband and wife team that run this place are wonderful. We originally were a hardware and feed store but as economic conditions changed in our area, so did we. We brought barbeque into the operation ten years ago and it has helped keep our doors open. We work hard to provide our customers with an interesting environment in which to shop and enjoy our bbq meals.

Meet the Business Owner: Jimmy and Stella W.

Jimmy and Stella own and operate Tucumcari Ranch Supply and Watson's BBQ. We purchased this business and have expanded and changed its product lines several times during this period based on economic conditions in our area. We brought the barbeque into the operation ten years ago and it is a valuable part of our operation. We love what we do and the opportunity to visit with so many interesting people who find their way to us.

My sandwich was hot, the curly fries were crispy, and--bonus--the shake machine was working. The dining area was clean too, which isn't always the case at gas station spots. The meatloaf was a little soggy, but lots of flavor and better than some dry and crumbly ones we have had at other restaurants. The potatoes had no seasoning but luckily the gravy made up for it. The greens beans came with mushrooms and onions and were pretty tasty. I ordered the Roadkill (similar to a Salisbury steak)., with the green beans and fried okra. Again the gravy was really good. The okra was your typical frozen from a bag and weren't very crispy at all. The place is fairly large and has plenty of seating. It was pretty quiet while we were there.

This is a truly unique place and a must stop if you are traveling through Tucumcari. Part BBQ resturant, part farm supply store, part gift shop, part antique store, and several other things. The pulled pork is quite good. But what really makes this place special is the owners. Strike up a conversation while you are there. Believe me, they will be happy to chat and you won't regret the experience. Really friendly, nice people. Launched the BBQ business when drought lead to a decline in ranching locally. Stopping at Watson's BBQ is way to get to know the people and town of Tucumcari which itself is a really intriguing place. A virtual Route 66 ghost town that is still hanging on despite much adversity. I will be making this place a regular stop on my annual trips to LA. read more

Can only echo the other reviews - family run place doing fantastic bbq with wonderful hospitality. We had the pork ribs and sliced brisket which were both delicious. Best cookie we've ever had. Also sampled the green chilli apple cobbler and the sausage - YUM! Seriously do yourself a favour and get there - is only a short detour off the highway. read more

Great BBQ and entertainment. Jim and Stella entertained the kids while we ate. The homemade bread is wonderful. Small Mom and Pop place makes you feel like you are home away from home. If you need some hardware or feed, you can get that too! Don't forget to see Monty the mongoose and bear before you go. read more

Me and my boyfriend stopped here on a Route 66 road trip. Both ordered a pulled pork sandwiches and this is some of the best BBQ we have ever had. The perfect hole in the wall place with friendly service. A must stop if you are going through this city. read more
