I would not suggest staying here. I'm a grad student & was in town for a job interview. I needed somewhere cheap to stay, so I prepaid for my room on Orbitz along with my rental car. They took a credit card from me at check-in like is standard but told me I wouldn't be charged for anything beyond incidentals since I already paid. I come home and check my statement and was double charged for the room. I can understand a mistake, but I cannot understand double charging me for the room without my signature on a credit card slip. Nor can I understand not returning my calls regarding this issue for 3 days. If I were a GM of a hotel and I got a message that I double charged a guest, I would make that a top priority to resolve immediately. The rooms aren't nice, either. I don't expect much for somewhere that was cheap, but they are really on the border of being unacceptable. Bed was really uncomfortable. Don't stay here. read more

So gross! Besides everything that was broken, no shades, mold in the bathroom, no towels....(I could go on and on but I won't )..the worst thing is they stole my pajamas out of my suitcase. W.T.H. First impression...elevator broken. Pressed the alarm and help button with no response. Hubby and I were scared we'd be stuck for hours! Stuck in there for a bit before it finally started. When we managed to get out of the elevator, no one at front desk...desk guy was trying to "save" us apparently, but we got out before he was able to get to us. We couldn't get room keys because the card key/coder was broken so desk guy had to use master key to let us in our room. Walked into our room and the carpet felt damp...I hoped it was maybe because it was just carpet cleaned, but I'm highly doubtful. Turned on AC and can barely hear my hubby speak to me cuz it was so loud. The alarm clock was broken, the numbers only partially show up. The sink is super loud when you turn on the water. The shower head wastes a ton of water and the tub has poor drainage, I tried to use less water by partially pulling the knob, but when I tried to turn on the shower portion, the pipes started rattling! The towels, though cleaned, are still very thin and a few were stained. Watch out for the bed frames, because the frames extend out at the base more than they should and if you are not careful you may gain an unwanted bruise or hole in your leg! Old tube tv's...no flatscreens here. As another reviewer pointed out, the website photos made it seem like a real nice place to stay....sooooooo far from reality. Don't be deceived by the pretty outdoor lights! I didn't sleep well because I was worried about the potential of bed bugs and other critters and the subconscious knowledge/worry that the sheets were dirty. On the good side...now lemme dig deep...free parking...loose hours on pool usage...military crispness on the bed making...coffee 24/7...continental breakfast in the morning...fridge in room at no extra cost...everything is within less than 5min driving distance...free underground parking...and the staff is overall pretty nice and friendly, though they really should know what's happening (like local events) to let visitors knows vs. the other way around. Some of the glowing Orbitz and Yelp reviews are highly suspect since they gave this place a 4-5 star. Maybe they mistaken it for another place down the road and extremely intoxicated. I would not recommend The Wave Hotel. The bed was very uncomfortable and it was not clean. On checkout, we rode in the elevator with a couple who told us that they had slept in their clothes because the sheets were dirty. The bed literally felt like a box spring with no mattress. The Wave is not maintained well, and the cons outnumber the pros. Just saying, if you have another option, take it. Just because a Hotel App offers what seems like a good deal, do yourself a favor and seriously research the joint. What I learned from this trip is that to find a decent hotel, check and double check reviews, then book your stay. The reviews on Orbitz and star ratings were pretty misleading. I wasn't expecting a four star hotel but I was disappointed in this choice. I think it should be a two star not a three. The room was really dated and smelled like mildew. It was also really humid in the room which was odd. The pictures were very misleading as well. Bathroom shower had two settings: power blast and spritz. There was also mold in the bathroom along the shower floor board. I felt like I needed to wear socks or shoes the whole time. Also not all of the lights were functioning and they were all on timers or motion which kept turning on and off all the time. Didn't try the pool or spa, it seemed to sketchy. But there was free parking and breakfast. We didn't try the breakfast either...same reason. I ended up checking out early dreading sleeping in that room again. read more

We booked using a third party site. We asked the Hotel directly for an early check in at 12:00 and was told it shouldn't be a problem since 2:00 was normal check in. When we arrived we were told check in is at 3:00 and if we wanted it earlier we would need to wait for a room to be cleaned and there would be an extra charge of $25.00. The a/c worked, the bed was comfy, and the guy at the front desk, polite. Pool was maintained and open and the complimentary breakfast had hot coffee, bagels, pastries, and cereal. The best part about this hotel was the price but just like the saying you absolutely get what you pay for . Once checked in the bell cart which you get Yourself it falling apart and duck tapped together and it is the only one for the whole hotel . We asked for room on second floor but they said they couldn't give it to us so we had the room accross from pool lower level two doors away from breakfast room and front desk. Everyone had To walk passed it and walls are paper thin so there was no sleeping past 7am because it was so loud. Breakfast has nothing hot bagels are stale , milk warm. The rooms are not as described no movies, no mini fridge, and those amenities are listed on website. The Internet is free but Extremely so you wish you could pay for faster . For 100 dollars I expected more even in la.... broken lights weird noises. Switched rooms because there was a hole in the bathroom door and a weird noise. Don't do it!!!! The rooms are DISGUSTING Posted pictures. The carpets had black smears everywhere and some red stain. Cobb webs connected from the light to the curtains and the corners of the walls. I booked this place through bookit.com and there reviews had three stars BEWARE! If traveling with family I do not recommend this place we ending up leaving after the first night. When we first arrived the room was not clean the beds were made but the head broads were dusty and cobwebs behind the tv that didn't work... Filled Ash tray right outside our door. I went to the front desk to talk About the room and she offered to cancel our reservations but not wanting to fine another place for the night I just ask if our room could be cleaned again and she said yes when we return all they did was vacuum it was still all dusty and cobwebs were still there. After staying one night and getting barley any sleep because the room was damp and dusty we left. read more

Stayed for 3 nights with my wife and teen daughter. It was clean, staff was nice but heavy accents made it clumsy. I'd stay again for the$125/ nt. Parking was covered and free. We walked only a few blocks to the Manhattan Beach pier and beach. The room was quiet and clean. An odd thing was on Saturday the pool was used for swim lessons for infants and young children of local families. This use of the hotel pool would make use by hotel guests awkward or not possible. So why did my hotel cost include a pool that was then rented to a guy giving private lessons which went on from about 7:00 am to 1:00 or 2:00. Pros: 1-cheap Cons- 1-very sparce room with no dresser 2-no light on desk 3-toilet doesn't flush properly 4-A/C doesn't work and makes a horribly loud noise heard throughout the 'hotel' 5-desk chair is extremely old and will not stay up, so you sit virtually on the floor 6-no water pressure in the shower 7-shower door does not stay shut, getting water outside the shower 8-the water tastes horrible (only used it to brush my teeth) 9-no closet doors 10-the ironing board is stained 11-the desk is old, tattered and a drawer is upside down and stuck 12-the phone is so old it has the old hotel name and AOL email address 13-the fridge is hot but has ice and rust all over inside (they brought it in the same day the picture was taken) 14-the table is peeling the veneer 15-the chairs at the table are water (I hope) stained 16-the curtains have something black all over them 17-the vent on the A/C unit is missing a knob so I have no idea if this is outside air or inside 18-the breakfast had rotting fruit, stale croissants and bagels and milk that looked curdled 19-the elevator smells like urine and does not run properly, it jerks and stops then goes again 20-the hot tub was out of commission when I was here 21-the parking lot had old items from the rooms in it and was greasy and dirty Anyway, for about $10 more, you can stay up the road at a better hotel. For that amount, you will more than likely get an edible breakfast and not have to go out. For $129 a night, I would expect a better 'hotel'. Needed to run away from home for the night, so I decided to kidnap my husband last minute, thinking ok Sunday night how hard would it be to get a smoking room for 2 adults. Well the Marina del Rey Hotel was booked so I started surfing the internet. Came across this place thru Expedia and the Expedia customera give this place a 39 out of 5 so I am thinking PERFECT! I book the room then read Yelp the next morning. I agree with Monique that it is a nice place to stay, and staff was very very plesant and helpfull even allowed me to sneak a extra glass of juice for my husband before breakfast was served. The room/pool/spa was all clean and rooms were quiet. Check in and check out was simple, the 4 stars are for access to the local delivery, but maybe the a/c unit should be dusted a little more often. I booked through booking.com and didnt realize they were doing renovations. I wanted to get a room with the jacuzzi tub and thankfully they still had ONE left (all the others had been ripped out). I'm glad we did this because the day was overcast and cold and we couldn't have a beach day as we were hoping. Yes, that room was outdated but I wasnt expecting anything great for being a 'beach hotel'. The parking was convenient, right under the building. Mona (I think?) at the front desk was very nice and helpful. We slept fine - expected some noise in the morning because of construction but we didnt hear anything. I'd say its slightly pricier than it should be, but would overall probably consider staying here again. read more

WARNING, DON'T STAY HERE ****We paid $123 on a Sunday. Pro free parking con parking around there crap that's in the underground parking. Pro they have a pool. Con the pool has a padlock on it and unable to be used. Pro the place looks updated. Con I can feel the springs from the mattress. I'm 182lb 6feet 1 inch. It had a cheep thin comforter. I would have slept on the floor if it wasn't tile. Made me think of camping and sleeping on rocks. Pro they have free breakfast. Cons they've had that same free breakfast for over a week. Doesn't look like anything is fresh. And the toaster burns one side of what ever you put in it and doesn't heat up the other side. I couldn't trust the juice bar was clean and wasn't risking drinking mold. Over priced for what it is and not worth the stretching in the morning. 15mins from the ocean but not worth it. Wife and I stayed here. Booked through hotels.com, which is also useless, in our opinion, now. Booked 5 nights. Left after one. Hotel was dirty, linens not clean, bed uncomfortable, to the max, ants in sink, shower area and floor. Hotel staff not congenial and certainly not helpful, at all. After complaint, refused to refund our other 4 nights. Hotels.com useless and offered us nothing. I would not believe ANY positive reviews of this hotel. This hotel is a scam, in our opinion. Yikes!! This place should probably close up shop. My Grandmother and I went to Manhattan Beach to visit some family and, having never been there before, my Grams booked the wave through expedia I believe. She doesn't yelp so she didn't check the reviews and had no idea that it had a crummy reputation (I've since taught her all about yelp). When we drove up we droved into the parking garage and it was filthy! there were old bath tubs and insolation everywhere! We didn't feel totally safe leaving our vehicle down there. We then took the elevator, that failed to open all of the way, up to the loby. There were flies everywhere and the vibe just felt totally off and empty. While we were waiting to get our room key I used the restroom that was in the hall and the it smelled so intensely of bug spray and room freshener that I could taste it in my mouth and it made my asthma act up. The lady who was giving us our room key was eating as we walked up and started speaking to us with a full mouth, handed us the keys and told us to have a nice day... She didn't tell us the direction of the room or anything. When we found the room we could not get the door to open. My grandma tried first and it wouldn't budge then I gave it a few tries and was out of luck myself. We grabbed the lady that checked us in and she came to help and said "yeah, sometimes you need to give it a good shove"... When we went into the room it was obvious that it was renovated but it wasn't done well at all! Also, as we walked in, that smell that I had smelled in the bathroom was in the room as well. A little less intense but it was there. We then tried to turn on the AC/fan wall unit to clear the smell out and it was broken. The front desk lady was still there from opening our door and we kindly asked that we change rooms. She agreed and gave us another room. Again the door would not open... it took a good 5 or 6 tries and a kick to get in. The moment we walked into room number 2 It smelled like someone had just smoked a joint in it. We turned the fan on and kept the door open and then I sat on the bed and noticed that the sheets were funky... THERE WASN'T A FITTED SHEET!! They used a regular sheet and tucked it in all willy nilly. come on, folks. What a bummer. At this point my grandmother was really upset because she was trying to plan us a relaxing and fun trip. We sat by the pool (that was also really rundown) and searched for other hotels. Thank goodness we found the Belamar that was down the street and had availability. The lady that had been helping us with the rooms agreed to give us our money back and was really nice about it. I would recommend either spending a little more money and going to the Belamar or going to the Best Western which is about the same price. Do NOT waste your time. read more

Run far far away. I found blood on my blanket they tried to say it was make up LOL I'm sorry but I'm a woman and I know what blood looks like on a comforter. There was bread beside the fridge on the floor so obviously they didn't clean that there was also some weird sticky gooey stuff on the floor that I stepped in it was nasty-looking there was dried up red stuff in the sink which could have either been blood or throw up. The ice bucket was dirty there was a nice one inch gap between the floor and the door the anything creepy-crawlies could crawl in through overnight. They're renovating the pool so the pools not open they tell you to use the hotel next door which looks just as shady is this hotel don't let the pictures online to see view on their website they make it look like a nice little boutique hotel it is ghetto and horrible and on top of that renovating and doing construction all hours of the day I don't come to Hotel on vacation to sit there and listen to Construction. They said that they own the hotel next door so wouldn't it make more sense to close one hotel and only use one and renovate the close one and then switch then try and renovate while you have guests. Then when I asked for my money back the lady was not very nice they tried to say we were smoking in the room when neither me or my husband smoke very awkward uncomfortable we ended up taking her bags and WALKING down the street to the Marriott Residence Inn which is much nicer that's where we normally say when we're out of town and they have a free food truck and bikes. read more

DISGUSTING. Both rooms were frighteningly filthy and the entire facility was in major disrepair. Waited in the lobby for nearly two hours after the check-in time posted. The travel site we reserved the room for said that the original prices were in the $750 range, so $100 felt like an amazing bargain. It wasn't. At $100, it was overpriced and probably a threat to our health. Stains and filth everywhere, carpet detached from floor, wallpaper detached from wall, empty Kleenex box, no lock on the pool gate, ancient cigarettes and a rotting Marlboro pack by the pool. Absolutely horrible, this hotel has been the ugliest hotel I have ever set foot in, I set my trip to LA with Hotwire and the website rates The Wave a 3 star hotel. The website looked convincing, "continental breakfast, pool and spa, cable and wifi, convincing right? Their "continental breakfast" was corner store pastries, bagels and cereal. You step inside the hotel room and you reminisce on the times where the big fat heavy TV's were popular because thats exactly what you have in the room, the cable lost signal 80 percent of the time i was there, so I couldn't even relax and watch what I wanted to without loosing signal. The wifi sucked and the pool and spa was something out of a nightmare, seriously this hotel is bad. read more

I checked in on Thanksgiving afternoon. The room was 205. The bedside lamp switch was sticky. The bathroom light did not work. The shower head was encrusted with lime and was difficult to adjust. The shower bathtub drain was partially blocked and extremely slow to empty leaving two spiders still floating on the water. There was blackish mildew in the corner adjacent to the bathtub and rust stain around a pipe under the bathroom counter. On checking out, I asked the desk clerk for a partial refund of the cost of the room on account of its deplorable condition and he said to go online to Expedia.com to request the refund. Unusual! Extraordinary! I showed iPhone photographs of all of these conditions to the desk clerk. He wasn't impressed. The fruit juice, cereal, doughnut and coffee were a pleasant surprise. In summary: never go to this establishment. It should be the subject of a local government health inspection. read more

I was a little nervous after reading all the reviews, but experience is the best. The Wave is a great little hotel super convenient to most everything from the airport to the beach. The rooms are updated, clean and large. The free breakfast is fresh and good (a nice plus). The common areas are a little dated but clean and nice. The only drawback are the other guests really, ones who think it's okay to yell across the courtyard at 730am or smoke right outside the door. Otherwise this hotel definitely fits the bill. read more

This place is a dump. The room was not ready when I checked in at 5pm, but they gave me a key, only for me to find my room torn apart and not nearly ready! They told me to wait 20 minutes. STILL not ready. Then they gave me another room where the bathroom lights didn't work, and the sink clogged up. The pool was under construction and the elevator was creepy slow. By far the worst, most unkempt, even dirty place I have ever stayed. The whirlpool was green with cigarette butts floating in it. The carpet if my room kept the front door from fully opening because it was bunched up. People smoking everywhere, litter left around and not picked up.
