It's been raining the whole day, and the whole week for that matter, I thought I'd stay out of the house for a bit after church. Turns out I'm not the only one, as this place was full. Lot's of students with their laptops and I can sometimes see people waiting to find a table. Lot's of comfy chairs for reading, as well as chairs where you can concentrate on your work or studies. I like the glass walls because it lets a lot of ambient light in even when it's cloudy and raining outside. Line was not long. I ordered regular, black coffee. I guess there is an option of Wave coffee. I wonder what the difference is. I'll have to try next time. I asked if the wraps were fresh and they said it comes refrigerated and they just bring it out the way it was brought to them. They just brought the wrap out this morning I was told. Too bad I was really hungry as I haven't had lunch yet. There's not a lot of options for breakfast sandwiches either. The place is decent. There was two empty coffee cups sitting by the window when I got there and until I left. I guess they are busy for the occasional quick clean up. I go here all the time after school. It's a great place to get work done. They have fast Wi-Fi as well as excellent drinks, good pastries, and a great work area and atmosphere service is also terrific. The barista had answers to all of the questions I asked about the food, and the drinks that were on the menu. If you are a student or someone that needs to get work done or just enjoy to go to a coffee shop after church and read a book they have a great seating area for that or if you want a drink and a pastry Waves Coffee House is also a excellent option for you! read more

I still remember this location as Shaw (tells you how far I go back!) and when they changed to a coffee shop up until the weekend I have only been to this location once. It's a big space with lots of seating, but even on a Saturday most of the seats were taken up. No communal tables at this location, and many people playing musical chairs, as you will sometimes see one small table with 4 chairs around, as people are moving them back and forth. What you will see here, well what I saw here, many people leaching off the free internet with their laptops and tablets studying for school, doing homework, saw some interviews, business transactions, friend meet-ups, you name it. Close to Metrotown but not in that mall, and they offer things, not just drinks... You do have coffee (of course), tea, some fizzy drinks which I saw in their fridge section right at the till, and some wraps and sandwiches and soup, so they got you covered pretty much. One cool thing I find with Wave's.. and this is general.. is their takeout cup covers, those plastic things you have to cover your drink so you don't spill, whoever engineered this piece of work got smart as there is a lever that closes off the spout so no foreign things can enter, or if your driving like a maniac, it could stop spillage! Parking on the street, mostly meter, unless you park farther, open till midnight on all days, so if you need some java, or a place to meet... I guess this place is pretty good. read more

Pretty chill place to study, read, or finish off some work. It's a pretty popular location for students because its right next to Patterson sky train. And there are a decent number of outlets for your laptop. The only downfall is that their regular brewed coffee isn't the greatest.. And their wraps are kind of a rip off.... If I wasn't desperate I probably wouldn't have ordered the Mediterranean wrap with my coffee. But I was hungry and just thought whatever it might be good right? For a vegetarian wrap that came cold in the centre even after hearing it up for $7.95 .....can you say RIP OFF??? Sigh, lesson learned. Buy food from somewhere else. Noted. BUT! I have to add... Their dark chocolate mochas are out of this world! They use real chocolate instead of a syrup, so the flavour has much more depth. WAY better than the Starbucks mocha. Located in the corner of a plaza, the floorplan is quite spacious. There are bar-type seats with electrical sockets. Washrooms were not that clean. Neat keypad entry though. Customer service was great, and the staff were friendly. The 1 complaint though was that the internet kept cutting out. This was the advantage that Waves had over the competition of the last few years, and now it's no more. Be warned. read more

Had some time between two appointments so I spent some time here. Had the match latte (medium sweet) and it tastes like they use real match a and they didn't skimp out on it either. Quite a few places to sit socially distanced but it was pretty full. Staff were nice and volume was nice and low. read more

Here I am, snuggled in the difficult-to-get back booth of Waves... Yelping away on my laptop after stuffing my face with a half roast lamb panini and a cup of fresh tomato basil soup. Mmm. Yes, it's mostly a study environment... and that being the case, a damn good one too. With ample light coming through the windows, soft 'intelligent' chatter surrounding me and coffee/food/desserts just a few steps away, it makes for one of my favorite places to get some work done. The staff here are also very friendly - the manager (?) is hard working and super considerate. I walked towards a table with my laptop one day and he ran out to stop me in my tracks, letting me know that the outlets in that area were non-functional. Nice. This is the Waves Cafe I'm usually at - quite often actually and it's become quite homey for me. Please don't stalk me. I get scared easily. read more

I love to drink coffee, but to be honest that's less than half the reason I go for a walk to get a coffee most days. I've been a stay at home parent for 6 years and some days getting a coffee is the only contact I have with another adult. So let that set the tone for how I feel about this waves location. I've been waiting almost a whole year to write a review, hoping that last years change in ownership transition was what caused the absolute worst service here. I've been coming here for over 5 years, in the past daily. Now almost every single time I leave, it's feeling frustrated that this has to be my local coffee shop. I'm not sure what the deal with the owner is, but I have never seen a worse coffee shop owner, she very obviously hates what she does. She is blunt, rude, and seems to not care at all about her customers or her coffee. Every latte she makes is way too hot and burnt. Her co-owner, I think he is, is decently friendly at least. But it really doesn't make up for how I often feel when I leave as Grace is often the person I see at the till. I'm pleased that the neighbourhood is finally gaining more coffee shops so I can choose to go elsewhere. Although waves is the closest to where I live, It is worth the extra effort to walk a little bit further for better service and better coffee. read more

A really enjoy coming here when I'm needing to get some work done. People might complain about the coffee in this place, but personally I have never had an issue. But then again I'm not a big coffee drinker or a coffee snob! The people in here have always been polite and helpful, making my experience an enjoyable and relaxing one. All in all, if you are looking for somewhere to go to meet someone or do some work this is a better option then the Starbucks down the road which is 9/10 a lot more busier and rarely any seats. read more

I struggle with this review. On one hand, I love Waves, their free WiFi, and especially this location with it's amazing views and lots of space to sit indoors and out. The staff are friendly, fun, and efficient (in the 10 or so times I've come here). So why the struggle? Because it's busy. Ridiculously so, and pretty much all the time. For instance yesterday, I came in around 2pm, and every single seat in the place was taken - mostly with folks studying. Great, cool, and I love that, however... I really wanted to sit down and linger for a bit. Instead, I went to Central Park, and had a blast there, so maybe it's a good thing. Still, note that if you want to go here, you'll have to fight for a spot, and at all hours of the day and night. WiFi was relatively reliable, just slow when the place is full. read more

I like going to Waves on Kingsway rather than going to the Starbucks on Kingsway. It's easy to find free parking on side street, close to Patterson skytrain station, location is more spacious, good selection of sweets & snacks and their free Wi-Fi works well :) I find their staff friendly and I like the shop's late hours. There's usually folks studying there all day long, indeed a great coffee shop for studying. read more

I'm gonna start this off by saying I LOVE hot chocolate. More specifically, I love Waves hot Chocolate. It's been my favorite for years. I just started working around the corner from one and it being a cold day today, I decided to pop in for a hot chocolate. Service was meh. When punching in my order she didn't even ask if I wanted whip or not, just punched in no whip. I had to ask for it. Then I stood awkwardly next to the little narrow bar they put the drinks on. When i got my hot chocolate it was barely warm. I think I will be finding a new place for hot chocolate. read more

I really like Waves. Great atmosphere for students who need to get work done, since there are a lot of college students here working on reading and assignments. It's fairly quiet and toned down for a coffee shop which is a nice difference from most Starbucks. There are also usually seats when I come here, although they definitely need more outlets. The coffee is pretty good and I love the fact that they're a Canadian coffee chain. I really like the wave au lait, canadiano and the fruit smoothies are pretty good as well. The biscotti I got today was ok, nothing special and I ended up eating only half of it. There are other baked treats and some healthy options such as the whole wheat veggie panini and granola bar (maybe healthy?). It's a little bit pricier than your average Starbucks or Peets, which is super popular in California, but it's worth it for the friendly service and the sense that you're supporting a local chain! The internet's also pretty good here if you can access 5g. Definitely recommend this place as a study spot! read more

At this waves with 2 friends to get some work done. The place is a bit cramped feeling. It's also pretty busy and there are several tables where wall sockets are inaccessible so that makes it a bit harder to work. My coffee is fine, but I didn't order anything fancy. The booth is decently comfortable, and the service is fine too. The WiFi is reliable and the bathrooms are alright. This coffee shop is nothing all that special, but if you are in the area, its a decent bet, but you might have trouble finding a seat close to an outlet. read more

There was a new employee training happening yesterday, Wednesday 08/19. I came to the register and was looking straight at the new employee cashier and waiting to put in an order. This moment the girl cashier pulled the new guy aside to explain something written in the paper to him, he had to turn around and forget all about the customer. This is not proper customer service in Canada. It was the old employee's fault, not the new guy's. The trainer is supposed to know that you do not continue training when a customer is looking at you, and it was for a while, not just a moment. Rooibos Latte was so delicious! It was hot creamy and full of flavor. Price is not cheap. Around 5+ dollars for the Latte. Service was mediocre but I suppose most people go to this location to study or meet with friends occasionally. Not the first pick. Overall was good but feel like the service attitude could help to bring up the rating. The staff are a bit slow and the front was left unattended for long periods of time. read more

I have been coming to this location for the last 5 years and I used to receive great coffee and great service here. Got to know the owner Tom too and he was always so nice. I get my coffee to go and my expectations are not high. This location changed ownership about 1-1.5 years ago and the new female owner was super nice too and their dark roast coffee was still great. . Not sure if they changed ownership again because the entire staff was different starting a few months or so ago and every cup of coffee ( about 6 on separate occasions) I have bought there afterwards contained coffee grind. So the last 1/4 of my coffee was undrinkable. Don't know if it's just the dark roast or it's the same for the medium roast. Hope they improve on their simple drip coffee making skills. read more

This place has gone DOWNHILL ever since the ownership change. I used to go to the Waves Coffee on Kingsway Metrotown a lot. Now with the change of ownership, it's no longer open for 24 hours. It's only open from 6am to 12midnight. This really sucks cause now I can't study there all night. To add to that, I buy coffee and food there. Isn't Waves supposed to be 24 hours? Even worse, the last time I went there, the plug-in outlets are all covered which you cannot find a single outlet to plug your laptop in. I spoke to one of the staff there and they said the owner is trying to save money because of their high Hydro electricity bill. This is Stupidity, since I won't go there again and I'll spend my money at another Waves or coffee shop. Seems like the owner is too cheap and wants to save on employee wages by shutting down at 12am and dis-connecting all the plug-in outlets. And also, I used to be able to get a Cafe Latte in a big glass. Now they change the glass size to even smaller. That's fine with me...it just means that I will go somewhere else and they loose my business. Definitely, do not reccommend this Waves on Kingsway near Patterson Skytrain station. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. CAUSE OWNER IS TOO CHEAP TO GIVE YOU FREE INTERNET AND DOESN'T WANT YOU TO STAY THERE. read more

Every time I drop by this Waves location, I'm always impressed at the friendly staff and great service. The drinks and food aren't bad either. I stopped by the other day for lunch and was not disappointed. I grabbed a strawberry frappe (ice cream style) and a meat lovers panini. It's a nice looking cafe with a large, clean and well lit space which gives off a simple relaxed atmosphere. There is a wide variety of seating such as tables, bar stools, padded chairs and even a padded booth but at night they'll usually be filled with people studying or using the free internet. There's several chairs and tables outside as well, but even late tonight after a break from heavy rain they were completely taken up with small chatty groups of people who were relaxing and enjoying the cool night air. This location is only open until 12am ever since it got new management. I hadn't been aware of this until tonight when I went over there to read with a coffee and a sandwich. I'm not sure how long it has been this way but several of the people there who were studying were also surprised when the staff gently announced that they were closed. Although I had showed up just before midnight and they had been cleaning equipment and had already wrapped up all of their food they still made me a mocha and were very polite and friendly about it. I've been turned away or given bad attitude by other businesses when it's nearly closing time so to be treated with such a positive attitude helped me feel that it was still worth the trip. Overall I find that the staff there are always really friendly and welcoming. On two separate occasions where I watched customers return with a drink, one over an issue of the flavor of his tea and the other over feeling he had been given the wrong type of blended drink, they replaced the drinks with a smile, apology and no fuss. I regret that they aren't still open until much later, I can imagine them doing well if they chose to stay open longer if not all night. I love that I can walk over here at any time (Yup, it's open 24 hours a day, every day!!! Hip hip Hurray!!) for a Belgian chocolate mocha and a slice of cheesecake, start up my laptop and start roaming. The Wi-Fi is free. Although, there's this little sign at the front entrance to please make a $3 min. purchase before using the Internet. I think that's a small price to pay to be able to use the Internet in a clean, bright, and quiet cafe in Burnaby. The counter staff are friendly. The crowd is mostly in their 20's and 30's. During the late afternoons, it gets busy and the tables are usually all taken. There is also seating outside, but that too is filled up on warm, sunny days. This coffee shop confused me as to how bad it actually was. It seemed cute and like everything is put together well. They offer a good selection of pastries. However, my coffee was horrible. They have a nice machine but it didn't seem like the barista knew what he was doing, or even cared. He poured my espresso into a large mug, which I don't understand. For some reason the espresso was voluminous and bitter. I have no idea what he did or how my coffee was so bad. I ordered the nanaimo and it was way too sweet, to the point of being sickening. I've only been here twice which was for their lavender latte. Other than that I really don't have any reason to come to this location, especially since there are so many other coffee shops on the Main street strip. Customer service is hit and miss. I've started a new job in a nearby office and this Waves location is on my way from the Paterson Skytrain station, so quite convenient for my morning coffee fix. The Americano (called Canadiano here) is quite decent for a chain. For reference I am not a Starbucks fan. At 8am the place is clean and not very busy. Staff are friendly. read more

We ordered a Belgian Mocha and not only did it look nothing like the picture (no whipped cream), it tasted terribly. We did notice it was made by an employee that was new (had to ask multiple questions on how to make the order, and seemed unsure of portions). We notified a staff member who was extremely rude to us. I explained the coffee looked nothing like the order and did not taste good. He said "too bad" and that it was "made correctly". I told him that was terrible customer service and other places would re-make or allow the customer to order something else. He said "We aren't like those companies" and "we don't do that here. Super slow, especially for a coffee shop and they messed up my drink order AND food order last time I was in.
