Nice and cosy location during winter time. Been here a few times when i was living in Canada, the staff is friendly, attentive and greets you with a smile. Love the lattes and matcha.

This is what their coffee actually looks like.. the service was dismal and depressed. There was nobody else in line and this was my first time visiting. Some people had patterns in their coffee and others did not. So I guess good service only depends on the baristas mood for the day

I'm a new fan of Waves Coffee because I've gotten to know the environment and one of the managers at the Edmonds location. I go there for coffee often now because it's convenient for myself and customers at Edmonds and Kingsway. They have many options similar to Starbucks and the prices are comparable. The service is a little bit different because at this location the manager is there pretty much 7 days a week and I've gotten to know Vince pretty well. He's a good guy and really cares about his business and his customers. Most importantly, the environment is pretty good, with a lounge and leather seats and a widescreen plasma TV, and there's the main area with regular wooden tables plus a nice patio outside with an open area near a small water fountain beside the Burnaby Public Library. And the coffee simply rocks!

The staff are super excited. The location is very local. Love the huge outdoor seating. Their muffins are great. The prices are very reasonable.

Really loved my white chocolate mocha. The Belgium chocolate was also really yum. The servers seemed to be a little lost though.

Such a gem in New West!…read more My partner and I just went here for coffee today and he ordered a cappuccino, while I got myself a matcha latte. Both drinks were made exceptionally well; impressively smooth, foamy, balanced, and clearly prepared with care rather than just being an afterthought. What really makes this place special is the atmosphere. The vibe feels genuinely inclusive and community-driven, with thoughtful touches like the pop-up bookstore featuring books on race, gender, and queer authors. It feels like a space built for connection, not just coffee. I also love how it transforms depending on the day. The daytime café energy is cozy and welcoming, while on select nights they stay open longer, serve alcohol, and host regular events like DJ nights, board game nights, and other community gatherings. It gives the space a lot of personality and makes it feel alive beyond the usual coffee shop experience. Definitely one of those places that feels more like a neighborhood hub than just a café. I'll be visiting a lot more soon!

The matcha taste was not too strong and not the umami matcha but still good nonetheless. I got it with oat milk instead and there wasn't an up charge. It doesn't come with sweetener and u can taste the matcha without it much more but I added 2 pumps of sugar and found that it increased the oat milk taste too much. I would recommend 1-1.5 pumps of liquid sugar (the barista helped me put it in so just ask!). The inside of the cafe was quite cute and they even had a little clothing rack selling second hand items like clothes and shoes! The space is quite big and spacious and has seating at the back as well and washrooms.

The grilled cheese and tomato basil soup is INSANE. Delicious, the perfect lunch. Highly recommend for a cozy laid back cafe.

He told me he gets up very early every morning to prepare everything from scratch -- even the mayonnaise. Nothing is simply bought ready-made and served, and I think you can taste the difference. The food has much more of a homemade quality to it. I had the chicken sandwich and it was delicious. I also tried a cold mocha, which wasn't quite to my taste because I would have preferred more milk, although I realized afterward that I may have been able to ask for extra. The prices felt a little on the high side, but that seems to be increasingly common these days, and knowing how much work goes into making everything fresh each day helps put the price into perspective. There is seating both inside and outside, although it isn't a large place. I noticed quite a few tables marked reserved, so seating may be limited at busier times. What stood out most to me was the care that goes into the food. It's nice to find a place where the person cooking your meal is actually preparing things from scratch every day rather than relying on pre-made products.
