Mah Milk Bar is a friendly and cozy neighbourhood coffee shop/mini grocery store located in the heart of East Vancouver. I was glad to visit on a Sunday morning while taking a walk with my boyfriend in his neighbourhood. When we arrived, it was quite busy. The coffee shop is small, but charming with limited seating available. The menu mainly contains basic coffee shop items as well as a variety of baked goods. We ordered an iced specialty coffee with ice cream and a small latte. I also chose the Tiramisu danish and we nibbled on it while waiting for our coffee. The danish was suggested by the cashier as one of the more popular items. She was completely right, because this baked treat was heavenly. The outside was like a croissant, flakey and buttery and paired with a delicious tiramisu custard on the inside. We also grabbed a scone for our walk home (which turned out to be delicious as well). The shop also sells local artisanal goods such as chocolate, sauces, and even loaves of bread. It's nice to gander around while waiting for your order. We enjoyed our coffee on the walk back home. The coffee is quite strong, which would be optimal for most coffee lovers. The flavour was deep and chocolate-y, but not bitter at all. I read on their site that they regularly rotate their bean selection. I would love to return to try more of their food items! read more

A cute neighbourhood coffee shop... I think the owner is Australian, which had me hoping for a great flat white ($4.5/$5.5). Sadly, the pastries were both disappointing. The tiramisu croissant ($6) was somehow dry yet soggy at the same time, thanks to the filling inside. The cheddar and chive scone ($5) was bland despite its name, and missing the soft, moist inside and crisp, crumbly outside a good scone should have. On the plus side, the barista brought the coffee to our table, which was a nice touch. The place is always busy, with limited seating both inside and out, so you might need to wait to get a seat or do takeout. read more

Tried Mah Milk Bar for the first time and really enjoyed it! I got the Mah Iced Coffee, which comes with a scoop of ice cream...such a fun twist. It was delightfully creamy and sweet, like a dessert and a caffeine fix all in one. The space itself is tiny but charming, and while there was a bit of a line, the service was friendly and moved along at a good pace. I also loved browsing the curated selection of wares while I waited... everything felt really thoughtfully chosen and added to the experience. read more

This is such a cute neighborhood coffee shop! I love how cozy the space feels and how residential the whole area is. There's plenty of parking and everything just feels a bit more relaxed here. I got an iced latte to go and service was super quick. I also really like that they don't use paper straws! It's still compostable but will not dissolve in your drink :) The green wall outside is so perfect for a cute photo and I love all the little things they have for sale in the store too! read more

I visited this cozy hidden gem cafe again to try a limited item for the Hot Chocolate Festival. #111 Cherry Picker - Inspired by the Australian chocolate bar Cherry Ripe. This decadent dark chocolate drink is sweetened with silky coconut cream and topped with maraschino cherry whipped cream. Served with a cherry coconut treat. I really liked the cherry whipped cream with the crunchy topping (I'm not sure of the name)--it paired perfectly with the dark hot chocolate. The cherry-shaped coconut treat covered in a chocolate coating was a really interesting surprise. I enjoyed every bite of its coconut texture--it complemented the hot chocolate so well! Mah is great! Their coffee and their chai lattes are delicious, and all the staff are quick and very friendly! It's normally quite busy, and can be difficult to find a place to sit. But they do have some beautiful outdoor seating, and are across the street from a park. Highly recommend! read more

This is a great neighbourhood cafe that has both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff are super friendly and the service is wonderful. I had the spinach scroll and it was more bready than flaky, which I prefer! The blueberry hojicha latte was delicious and would come back over and over again for it! They have various alternative milk choices for those who cannot have dairy. read more

this place is so cute, it's something i'd see on a pinterest board! i got a cortado and my boyfriend got a latte and we both are coffee lovers and truly thought this was coffee very good! you definitely could taste the coffee in the latte which we like because some lattes are too milky. the espresso also didn't have an acidic aftertaste! my boyfriend also got a ham and cheese croissant which was ok the flakier side but he really enjoyed it! we'll be back! read more

My partner and I got a houjicha latte and strawberry milk shake to share. The houjicha latte was really good. Good ratio of milk to tea. We added more sugar to ours since it wasn't sweet enough though! The strawberry milk shake was okay! I liked it for what it was. However, it was very watery unlike how a milkshake should be and it was really lacking in strawberries, and therefore strawberry flavour. Everything was overall great. The service was super quick and the cafe itself is really quiet and had ample seating. read more

Wonderful neighborhood coffee shop! It was close to my airbnb so we checked it out. Their service was friendly and the coffees (iced latte and iced americano) were good. Idk if it's a Vancouver thing but the double shots felt rly weak (compared to shots in the US). Also, is it a Vancouver thing that every indoor space doesn't use AC?? Pretty warm inside so we sat outside, which was nice. They have a restroom in the back. read more

I have kept my eye on this little bodega before it opened as I drive by Victoria Dr all the time on my way home from going out on the town. I saw as it get renovated and changing their sign awning and I had to park to see what it was all about I visited this place literally 2 months after their opening to see if their hype dies down a bit, and came during an off time to see how their little shoppe was doing. The size of this little cafe bodega was literally the size of a modern apartment downtown!! But a very strong and very well stocked kitchen as it is opened for everyone to see. I love the layout of the shoppe, as they have a really small section of local flavour items for sale, and tons of options to choose from, and they have fresh produce too. On top of that, they sell my favourite sourdough in Vancouver, Fife Bakery!! I love how they feature tons of local goods and local products within the lower mainland. Their coffee options are an abundance, and on top of that they brew local teas as well. They have iced coffee and they serve a cortado too!! I love it when coffee shops serve cortados. I had an iced coffee that day, and it was delicious, as they add a scoop of ice cream into the cup so it melts and have little small ice cubes too. I enjoyed it a lot and sat outside on the sunny winter day to enjoy the Vancouver weather. This is literally the perfect little cafe bodega for East Vancouver, and I will for sure be coming back for more coffee in the future as well! read more

Great coffee spot on Victoria Drive, east of Commercial Drive. This neighborhood needed a cafe spot and it looks like there is always a buzz of activity. I like their sampling of fresh baked bread, some produce and local frozen food offerings. Their coffee selection is good although they seem to often run out of chai! The cheese toastie is delicious. Would love to see a couple more sandwich options. Service is always great. Happy with this neighborhood addition. read more

Surprisingly great little coffee shop! i ordered the cortado and breakfast sandwich (with bacon). The barista delivered my cortado with such care despite there being a coffee order flurry at the front counter. The breakfast sandwich was really good, a soft Kaiser-esque bun that was warmed up. The sandwich had the right balance of salty, savoury and sweet... I think they used picked onion? Or a sweet onion relish? It was incredible. The interior is nice but feels a bit crammed. They made the most of the space that they had but it definitely can only accommodate so many people. Worth it for a quick stop off during a weekend outing. read more
