"I barely felt that." That's definitely not what I was expecting to hear minutes after walking into this small studio tucked away in Montrose. I found the Wax Bar LA on Yelp and decided to give Allison a call after reading some of her reviews. She answered right away, was so kind over the phone, and offered a same day appointment. In return, I brought her one of the most challenging customers on the planet. My young teen has been waxing out of necessity for a while, but has always refused to go to a pro. She's very pain sensitive and has allergies to several products as well as a difficult medical history that makes it hard for her to trust strangers. But she is NOT a pro, nor am I; and our DIY sessions are a struggle. When she burned her face two months ago with a kit she found on Amazon, I finally outlawed home waxing; and we've been at a standoff until today. Allison made us both feel at ease from the moment we entered her light, airy, and very clean and inviting space with her friendly demeanor, careful questions, and kind encouragement. She took a few minutes to get to know us, explain her process, and ask about allergies and preferences. So far, so good - my child climbed onto the table in record time. But I was still checking the last box on the brief health history/consent form when I realized she had ALREADY LET ALLISON GET TO WORK. And the work itself was very good. Allison was quick, but thorough; and if my child tells you she barely felt it, you can believe it was as close to painless as it is possible for waxing to get. She came in for a lip wax but actually let the Miracle Worker do some clean up on her brows. As we left, Allison got to hear her say, "We'll be back" (we certainly will) but she missed the big hug I got on the way to the car. If you're just looking for a basic waxing session in a soothing environment with quality products and a friendly and accommodating professional at a reasonable price (credit cards accepted), Allison is probably a solid bet. But if you are (or if you're parenting) a young or first time client, or have any fears/medical issues/special circumstances, this is ABSOLUTELY the first place you should consider. Whether you need a regular wax or for a special event, this is the place for you! Packages are the better deal but I felt around $50 was fair for a single arm session. They're thorough and CLEAN. As of Feb 2022 they required proof of Covid 19 vaccination. I made an appointment a couple days ahead but they seem to be flexible if you give them a call. I've had many wax jobs before and by far this has been the most painful and expensive one. If you aren't white or fare skin this isn't the place for u. They clearly have no idea how to handle "ethnic " skin tones and bodies. Also it smells disgusting in there with all the oils and feels like anthropology or a downtown book store more than it does a wax salon. read more

If you're a first timer looking to get a Brazilian, Allison is your girl. I went in on Valentine's Day for my first ever Brazilian (squeezed me in same day might I add) and it was amazing. Started off with a simple bikini wax to see how I felt about it and when I said I was comfortable, she continued. She talked to me the whole time which perfectly distracted from how a Brazilian feels. Went back a month later and she honestly makes you feel like you're friends. She remembered what we talked about the last time I saw her and asked about things I didn't even remember talking about. I've been going to see Alison for at least a year and she always does an incredible job on my waxing. She's a total pro and a perfectionist that makes sure you feel welcomed and happy with the work. Yesterday i finally got to try my first spray on tan with Suzie and OMG it turned out so well. I did the rapid version at 5 pm because i had dinner plans at 9pm. It's not easy to trust your delicate lady bits to a complete stranger, especially one who spreads hot, melted wax over your skin only to rip out all the hairs by its roots. I've been getting waxed at the same place for years, straying only once to give a new place a chance (it was highly rated on Yelp). What a horrible mistake! But after not being able to get an appointment at my usual place, AGAIN, I decided to hit up Yelp to research my other options. I found Wax Bar LA and called on a Thursday to snag an appointment for Monday afternoon with Allison. My experience at Wax Bar LA was awesome. Allison was sweet and kept up the conversation enough to distract me from the pain. Which, by the way, was minimal. She uses a special wax for sensitive skin and it was by far the least painful wax I've gotten. Parking was plentiful, and location was easy to find. Clean, nice, and located inside a day spa. I needed to make a very last minute waxing appointment the day before I was leaving for my birthday vacay in Palm Springs. I Yelped and called Wax Bar and left a vm. Alison texted me an hour later and said she can accommodate me later in the day! Woohoo! But I didn't have a babysitter for my baby so I asked if I can bring her. She said "no problem"! It was such a relief. When I got to the salon, Alison was so nice and worked around my stroller and baby. She was really great about entertaining her too :) It was such an amazing experience. As for the waxing, I got the Brazilian and Alison has great technique and super fast. I was in and out in under 20 minutes and that was with wrangling my baby too. I came to Wax Bar LA for my first Brazillian and couldn't be happier with my experience. Allison was so nice and helpful, and she talked me through the whole process, explaining what to anticipate. She made sure I was comfortable, and she made the fully bare and awkward situation .. pretty bearable. The pain was surprisingly minimal, due to her skillful techniques and well tempered wax. Wax Bar is in a boutique spa, so it's very small, but very clean and quiet. The only downside to the size is that it can be hard to miss while driving if you don't know where to look. Otherwise parking was plentiful, price was moderate (especially with the first time discount), and everything about my experience was great. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. read more

Alison = awesome Before my wax, Alison took her time to explain medication interactions and waxing, which was never brought up to me from past waxers. Now I know why my area feels super sensitive when I get waxed. The room where I got waxed was nicely lit and smelled lovely with the burning fragrant candles. The table where you lay for the wax is super comfortable and she puts down a clean sheet (not wax paper) on the table. When you lay down, you stare up at a cute & chic light fixture, which I loved. I got my best wax ever, very thorough and clean. It's a bit pricey but it's worth it. Since I was a first time customer, she gave me a 15% discount, which was sweet. I'll go back to Alison for sure! By far the best waxing experience I've had!! First off parking is perfectly easy to find, which is a plus in my book. Allison is AMAZING (yes the caps was needed). I have never felt more comfortable while getting a wax, at other places I feel awkward and embarrassed about getting a brazilian wax but not with Allison. I don't know how she does it, but it is as painless as it can possibly get with a brazilian wax and this is where I tell people to go. One memorable experience I had with Allison was when I needed a last-minute appointment like maybe 2-3 hours in advance. I stumbled across this gem when I did a search for "waxing" in La Canada a while back. My eyebrows were in desperate need of some TLC, so I called and made a last minute appointment. Alison fit me in that day, right after work. Not only was Alison great because she was kind enough to squeeze me in, but when you're lying on that chair getting hair ripped out of your skin, she's comforting and makes the whole experience feel relatively painless.
