She asked me to call back that next morning to check if there were any cancellations (she is booked weeks at a time), when a client cancelled she called me right away. I was amazed that she kept her word!! When I walked in I felt embarrassed but within seconds she made me feel very comfortable. She was very straight forward and honest when I tip-toed around my request. During my 15 minutes - she educated me on the importance and the art of waxing. Every review on this site is dead on. I just moved to Chicago from Madison in June and I have been hopping from aesthetician to aesthetician for the past 5 months. I finally landed of Eva, via all the amazing reviews on Yelp, and I have to say.. I am NEVER going to anyone else. I have been getting waxed for close to 8 years now and I have tried it all: hot wax, hard wax, sugaring. You name it, I've tried it. My skin is pretty sensitive, but Eva and her skill level are a godsend! You are literally in there for 10 minutes, in and out, it is the quickest and MOST PAINLESS waxing experience you will ever have. AND CHEAP! Eva is professional and very experienced. If I could give her 10 stars, I would! Make sure you bring cash or check though. The fact that she is so to-the-point and tells you to drop yo trousers when you first walk in actually was comforting to me- just get it done. Its really not good when things get hairy, especially when you're trying to make an impression, right? I mean, lets face it, you're smack right in the middle of a situation and hair ruins it all. I guess you could say its a bad hair day. Shaving doesn't really do it for me. I mean its clean for a day, then it itches real bad. Now you walk by stores with these services and think about going in and then you get that second thought about actually going in - cuz someone - a stranger is gonna work on you privates, your ogakor, your koocha, your kraken. no. you are comfortable with that. your little friend is not comfortable with that. Heck, the last trip to the doctor was traumatic enough. I felt violated despite the fact that it was required for the company hiring process. Now here's Evas. Or Eva. Very nice lady. somehow, I felt easy. i mean it all felt like an easy going thing. I just moved here from NYC (where I was spoiled by a great wax studio). I'm used to hard wax, I have dark hair and find it hurts a lot less. Eva uses the thinner wax & paper method...but it didn't hurt at all! I was shocked! I've been going to Eva for all of my waxing needs since 2000 - she's incredibly accommodating when it comes to last minute emergency appointments. The wax itself is always perfect - Eva is incredibly thorough (get a grip if you're bashful - I doubt there isn't anything she hasn't seen). So. I'm going to the beach next week. And I wanted to get a wax. It's not something I normally do, but I wanted to go to the right person. Lucky for me, Eva has been blowing up Yelp, so off I went. She's in a tiny salon in a building off Wabash - it's pretty cozy. We were pretty much in and out in 15, maybe 20 minutes. It was fast, and the pain was relatively minimal. Easy breezy. She's really nice and I would definitely come here for future waxes, for sure. Pro tip: Without going into graphic detail, don't come with hair that's shortish. You will get a small lecture and a more painful wax in those areas. Pro tip 2: Eva prefers cash over credit cards, though she does take cards. read more

I've read a lot of reviews of Ava before going. Everyone was right. Small room, great woman, less than 10 minutes. Yes, I'm a newbie and overall it was a great experience. I wasn't anticipating the first strip off and it took me by surprise but it wasn't bad at all. I thought the plucking of stray hairs hurt way more. Ava had a way of calming the areas after every strip torn. Best part was that it only took less than 10 minutes. I think overall was 7 minutes. Fast, efficient and great! Yes, it's not a spa but I don't need a spa to rip out my nether regions. Ava also warned me about groupons for brazilians because of the lack of business or just because of bad experiences. Eva is great! I hadn't had a Brazilian wax in a number of years, but wanted to give it another whirl so I came to Yelp to see who's the best of the best. Needless to say, I found Eva. She's quick, affordable and makes you feel as comfortable as you can be in this situation! I was in and out in about 15 minutes and it wasn't bad. I'm not going to say it was painless or anything near that, but definitely survivable! I will certainly be back. Unfortunately, my hair grows back ridiculously fast so I'll be back more often than I would like to, but Eva is so good that it's no big deal and should be fairly quick and easy. I go back and forth between Eva and Daniella. Although Daniella is good, Eva is very good too. If you make an appointment with her, you will go into this hair salon and ask for Eva. You will then go into a small room inside of the hair salon with her. She will be waiting. Yes for you to take off your undies!! You lie down on the bed, and she starts her fantastic waxing job, and finishes everything within 10-15 minutes. It is not painless, of course, but pain is at minimum! Listen- getting your hair pulled out is never a fun experience; so when it is done quickly and efficiently (so you don't have to come back every other week) you truly appreciate it. Eva is great. She is a pro. Nice lady, she has a wonderful recommendation for an Asian Restaurant if you are willing to try some excellent food. Word to the wise take a pain reliever an hour or so before. Drink water. The room is small- but I have a feeling you don't want to just hang in there with no pants on for longer than necessary. read more

Eva is as amazing and capable, as she is beautiful. I saw Miss Eva for the first time today, which was also my first Brazilian. Eva was great! I immediately felt very comfortable with her, as if we have been acquainted for years. I recently had my eyebrows waxed by someone less capable and walked away with an allergic reaction that quickly turned into a scar over my right eyebrow, which has yet to fade three months later. I assumed the wax was too hot, causing a reaction and later scarring. Eva said no, the wax was applied twice in the same area, making my skin extremely sensitive. She was absolutely right. She's fast, as painless as possible, and easy to talk to for the brief time you're there (she doesn't talk too much and doesn't leave awkward silence the whole time either). Awesome place. Ive only gotten a brazilian here a few times. If you are experienced with getting waxed this place is great. Eva is very efficient! Place is small and decently clean. I've never had a problem. I have super thick and stubborn hair and Eva took everything off perfectly. I would give this place 5 stars but I am deducting one star because 1. Bit pricey. I would rather not pay $45-$50 dollars everytime I go but its average for the city. 2. You need to make an appointment! Two times I didn't call in advance and I had to be squeezed in or gotten lucky because of a cancellation. I don't assume I will be so lucky everytime :/ Overall, great place. read more

Had a fine experience with Eva, she did a good job, the quality of the wax was good and she was available on short notice. The things I didn't like: - She's pretty expensive - $70 for literally 15 minutes of waxing. That's pretty pricey in my opinion. Especially for someone that has thinner hair, getting charged by area is not great. Someone with a more dense hair would obviously take longer and that should be factored in. - A lot of estheticians move around, so the skin doesn't get too irritated in one place. Eva did not do that, so it was one of the more painful waxing experiences that I've ever had. - That downtown location is not very convenient unless you live or work right there. read more

I feel like I need to throw myself a parade. You know how little kids get a lollypop or a puffy sticker for "surviving" their shots at the doctor's office? Yeah. I lived. I'll be ok. I fear pain. Like to a fault. I have this (damn) friend who to this day insists on cracking me across the ass almost every time I'm dumb enough to turn my back to her because I yell so much and so passionately. "DON'T SLAP ME! I'm sensual." Anywho, for YEARS I've been talking about getting my lady bits waxed and for YEARS I've looked up various salons on yelp. It was only last week that I finally had the stones to actually place the call. "How long since you shave?" said Eva on the phone. "Oooohh, it's been awhile." I nervously giggled. Yes, that's right, Yelp. Nothing is sacred. Certainly not my personal grooming habits, that's for sure. When I marched my ass down Hubbard St. today I felt my palms start to sweat. When I walked into Eva's little room I looked at the bed as if it were the lethal injection gurney. She did her thing. "Don't worry, it never hurts on Wednesdays." A very good beginning to my first ever Brazilian wax! I like a waxer with a sense of humor. I was very nervous, having had only one "regular" bikini wax before but wanted a Brazilian before an upcoming trip. Eva started by waxing my eyebrows, and did a beautiful and thorough job. But the whole time, I was sitting there....trembling. Forgot to mention that Eva will just walk into the little room with you, and ask you to take off your underwear. Might I recommend wearing a dress or skirt so you don't have to awkwardly peel off jeans? You probably don't want to be wearing jeans anyway if you're getting a bikini wax. I jumped on the table, she pulled my dress up, assessed the situation, and said: "You are too tiny and beautiful to have that bush." That is literally the greatest thing anybody has ever said to me. I wanted to be like "Look, it's not normally like this, I only grew it out because you told me to!" but I'm sure she knows that. And yes, you do have to grow it out - it's no fun. But I believe it's less painful if you grow it out - I think I did about 4 weeks before getting my wax. Before I had any time to fret, there was hot wax on my inner thigh. Well then, here we go! She moved masterfully and fast, from area to area around my ladybits. Wax on, wax off. And yeah, it hurts. I can't rate it compared to other waxes as this was my first, but I will say, as Eva warned me, the "top" part hurt the worst. Honestly, you'd think it would hurt more farther down, but the thicker, coarser hair (and also, just a higher quantity of hair) at the top made that hurt more. I didn't scream or freak out, but I did grunt and groan and once I said "Jesus!" But it was amazing - it hurts, quite a bit, but for maybe....5 seconds. Then the pain fades and just turns into a tingle. By the time I was on my feet, there was no pain. It's totally, totally doable. I'm a total wuss and have been nervous about this for weeks, and it was fine. It'll hurt, but not in a way where days later (or even hours later) you'll be like "Oh god, that was awwwwwful!" You'll be so pain-free so fast, it'll feel totally worth it. You will have to put one leg up against the wall, and perhaps even one over her shoulder. You will also have to lie on your stomach and spread your cheeks apart (yes, really). But every little hair will be gone, from ladybits to crack to upper thighs to "happy trail!" She also got in there and did a tiny bit of plucking, but barely any was necessary. I was afraid to investigate it for a few hours, but now that most of the day has passed, I can vouch that my skin is silky smooth and bare like shaving has NEVER done. WOW! It's really fascinating, what a difference it is from shaving. She's not kidding when she says you won't want to shave again (and she'd say you shouldn't). Evidently, waxing will make the hair grow back softer, which wouldn't be a bad thing, and it would make the waxing easier in future. Apparently the first time is the worst, and again it wasn't even that bad. My skin is a little pink, but it isn't sore or inflamed at all. Frankly, I'm hooked. My boyfriend is going to be all about this! I think I'll come back in a month! The whole appointment took barely 20-25 minutes, for both brows and Brazilian, so it's easy to fit into your schedule! $50 first appt, $45 returning. Brows were only $12! Oh, when I opened the door to leave the waxing room, there was a dude getting his hair cut like, RIGHT there. He probably heard my occasional moans of pain. Awkward. Eva was able to schedule me last minute which I was really happy about and when I met her I can see why so many people gave great reviews. She's awesome and she also put me in some positions I've never even been in before lol but she made me feel comfortable and she got the job done lol! I had previously tried to wax myself but did it wrong and ended up breaking hairs, she did some touch up and then said to come back and get a free touch up which was nice. i really value other yelpers feedback but, this time you guys got it wrong! i wnet this past saturday and eva is fast, BUT her method is completely unsanitary. i will NEVER go back. she used one stick for the entire wax! i know many people have trusted eva with their first waxing experience, but it's really important to go to a professional who goes through the proper waxing procedures so that you know what should and should not happen. when getting waxed a new stick should be used EACH and EVERY time wax is applied. there should be no double-dipping let alone one stick used time and time again. in addition, eva took absolutely no time to prep the room between clients, so i don't even think her equipment was sanitized. i am so grossed out and horrified... hope to god i didn't catch anything. read more

There is really only one reason why I am giving only one star and can be summed up in two words: no gloves!!!!! I have been waxed numerous times. Never have I experienced a technician that does not wear gloves. It is so unsanitary that I am shocked in all of these rave reviews not one person mentions this huge point. I asked Eva why she didn't wear gloves and she claimed to use antiseptic and that she wouldn't let me touch anything-but still. I am extremely hopeful that she washed her hands before I came in, but even still, I saw her checking her phone as I was undressing and to me, the cellphone is the new "remote control in a hotel" as far as germiness. Maybe this is just a deal breaker for me and if so, I will say Eva seemed lovely and did a perfectly acceptable job. Yes, I fully admit that I am a huge germiphobe, but still-I feel like gloves are a total given. The fact that she double dipped also bothered me, though she claimed to use a new vat of wax for each customer and as I was leaving, I did watch her change the wax. That really seems wasteful and costly to me when you could just use a new stick for each dip but whatever. So, as far as the results of the wax, it appears to be a fine job but I just can't get past the highly unsanitary method. read more
