My favorite wax place! I've tried one or two places before coming to Waxing the City, and after coming here, I haven't been anywhere else. The wax is so much better (I believe it's a sugar scrub?) that is not as harsh as some of the other places. They also have a way of being quick and efficient without rushing through your appointment. I'll be honest and say that it's not the most fun or enjoyable experience, but being consistent is key to managing the pain (a painkiller before your session also helps). Abby is absolutely amazing and always makes the experience much more bearable. She's my go to girl when I come to this location and she always has me laughing during my sessions. read more

I had to get a last minute brazilian wax and they squeezed me in within 2 hours. The esthetician who waxed me was very gentle and spoke to me the whole time about 'Fiesta' to distract me. She also made me feel super comfortable during the process because having your 'hoo ha' out in front of a stranger is not easy. I scheduled 2 appointments online, underarm (1245p) and Brazilian (1p). I was late to the underarm due to traffic, and we'll aware of the late fee due however Avery chose to charge me a late fee in addition to the full service charge for BOTH services. I have been a customer with Waxing the City, in particular this Waxing the City for years. I let you all slide when your front desk person tried to embarrass me by telling me, verbatim, "your card declined" loudly in front of other guests in attempts to embarrass me. Although it turned out yo be your machines, I didn't receive so much as an apology, nor did he Manager contact me after I requested it. I won't let this slide, the Manager here is totally hands off and allows these young girls to say and do what they want. My recommendation, don't bother with Waxing the City, especially this location. 13Nov22: What part of financial literacy is that? Where you charge the customer in advance for services that ARE NOT rendered. You offered NO solutions to me, it's nice to see you once again defend the ignorance of Avery as you did via phone. My assumption is that you thought it okay to charge any credit card you saw fit on my account for the 2d service I showed up for as a "solution". Believe me people, do not go here. read more

Customer service is the worst. Scenario - you have a package with one servcie left. You call to co firm package us still actuve and are told yes After services are rendered, they say your package expired and you have to pay $100 for services. After the service you, you notice on day three there is still hair where there should not be (Thuraday-Sunday). You call Monday because they had closed for business Sunday, they say you have to pay for a full service again for a few hairs of a crappy job they did. Don't bother going. This is the second time in a row I have had horrible service and horrible encounters with staff. Go to European Wax Center. Sooooo much better quality staff, service, and music. My cerologist Melody was phenomenal. A few weeks ago I got a Brazilian wax at a location in Monte Vista. It was a horrible experience, it was painful and I felt very uncomfortable, but decided to give the Brazilian wax a second chance. Boy am I glad I did. Melody was very professional, took the time to explain the entire procedure and was also very patient. I just moved back to TX and needed to find someone that could help me get my brows back to where they were prior to quarantine. Roxanne has been nothing short of exceptional. I explained to her what I wanted and asked her for her professional opinion. She took her time shaping my brows and going over what parts we wanted to grow out. Update: I appreciate that I was called after posting this review and added 2 stars for responsiveness. I have little kiddos and hadn't had time to schedule a wax in several months. I FINALLY saw some free time in my schedule and had a coupon for this place so on a Friday night I booked an appointment for the next day at noon. Woke up on Saturday, got ready to go and headed that way. I love about 30 miles outside of town, so it was a long drive. I did see a missed call from them and a text but glancing at both, saw something about confirming the appointment. When I got to the salon, I gave the lady my name and she said, "Oh, your appointment was canceled because you didn't call us back to confirm." ....what?! I made this appointment less than 12 hours ago, drove more than 30 minutes to get here and you canceled my appointment? Who does that?? I was extremely upset. Terrible company policy. I had a Brazilian wax with Melody today. It was not painful (which I appreciated) with the exception of whatever serum that was used to close the follicles as she said. Something that tingles should be advised before placing on the skin and the customer should be asked as well. Not sure if I will return. High price for the same service I've received elsewhere. I went in for a Brazilian wax and left disappointed! It wasn't a very thorough wax, there were areas not waxed at all. Only 1/2 an inch of the bikini area on my inner thigh was waxed, she didn't wax at all above the bikini area on my abdomen and also nothing on my buttocks. I wouldn't consider what I received to be a Brazilian wax and it didn't match the description that I paid for. Now I have to still shave those areas which is what I was trying to avoid by coming in for a wax in the first place. I was with Jordi and while she was very nice and did a decent job in the areas she did wax, the wax was painful and she left too much untouched. read more

I feel as a positive influencer and proud Trans woman I can not stand by and let a company dictate or discriminate against the Trans community. I had services done at Wax in the City (999 Basse Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209). I got: FEMALE bikini wax: $35 FEMALE buttocks wax: $40 FEMALE upper pubic area: $37 I was charge for Male bikini wax: $70!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(almost twice the amount of a buttocks wax MALE buttocks wax: $40 MALE upper pubic area: $37 I was told the total of $155 and I left $30 for the technician total of $180. I felt she WAS nice but now come to find out she was just as discriminating as her fellow co workers. I called and had the front desk email me a receipt because it did seem a bit high for those three services. I've been to another competitor and they were half the price of what I was charged. Upon Receiving the emailed receipt I noticed I was charged ALL MALE prices. I called back to inform them of the mistake that had taken place. The "reception" answered and informed me "by the technicians information I was a male". I had a long talk with JORDI and thought we were having a friendly conversation (when your spread eagle infront of a wax technician you're kind of vulnerable and basically at their mercy). I already am not 100% comfortable with my body so letting someone get to see me naked is already embarrassing. JORDI and my conversation turned to that of sexuality (we're adults, I don't mind). I opened up and informed her that I was a trans woman and about my relationships. Opening up is hard especially to strangers let alone on a table with someone over you getting ready to wax your soul out of you LOL (joke). Well, we finished and I was left alone in the room to get dressed. When I arrived back up to the front desk I was given the total. I paid it because I didn't want to make a fuss and be "that person" disputing a charge. Well seems that JORDI informed the front desk that I was a trans woman so I was to be charged MALE prices. After talking on the phone and disputing the charge, the manager informed me that they would charge me an "upper leg" charge of $50 because they couldn't technically call it a bikini wax. I informed the lady that I wear a bikini, hence that's why I was there. I then asked "you have to call it a upper leg" because I'm a trans woman????? She began to stutter and I was nearly in tears from the humiliation and embarrassing situation. I hung up the phone and didn't want to hear what other discriminating comments they had coming my way. I looked at my email again and they sent me a new receipt with all FEMALE services that were charged. If I had not made a commotion, they would have taken advantage of a trans woman money, dignity and self respect. I have heard around town about Wax in the City and their discriminating ways but never thought that I was going to be made felt this way. I ask if you are trans or an ally for the LGBTQ+ community, spend your money where you won't be discriminated on because of your sexuality. read more

Location is nice and inside it's nice and inviting . The only issues I had is when I received a Brazilian wax was it hurt more then normal . This was my first time here before I would go to the European wax center and some other small business ( all different cities since I move around ) with that being said I been getting this done for some time now . Well this lady would Yam smaller section so it took longer . She didn't taut the skin or out her hand on my skin after she waxed it . The night day my sling was sore . Over time even by exfoliating I got ingrown hairs . I hope tigers got better service but this place isn't for me . read more
