Have ordered here several times through DoorDash and our food usually comes cold, the fries and tots very soggy and undercooked. Today I tried going there and ordering take out myself only to have the same thing happen. We even started eating our food in the car and the tots & fries still very soggy and undercooked. I can understand this happening when a place is very busy but there was only 3 people sitting down in the entire place. There was no one else in line. It's sad that a food service establishment can't even serve their own products in an edible form. Everyone working there should either be retrained or replaced. Serving anything undercooked is dangerous. The one picture shows the container my tots came in. You can see how greasy it is and the huge puddle of grease left at the bottom. While I have two semi-local Wayback locations, I haven't been to either in years. Part of it is location but a lot of it is price in relation to what is being rendered. We rumbled in here last weekend late afternoon and aside from one other couple the place is deserted. The order was simply four of their "classic" burgers with various different topping combinations. What worked best was actually the yuppie/hipster brand of black cherry and root beer sodas they offer. They're nothing extravagant but because of the cane sugar sweetener they are very good. The burgers are...ok. Look, if we want energy independence from OPEC we just need Wayback to make more burgers which we could then use for drilling because there is plenty of oil/grease in those puppies. The taste is there but so is the (Burp!) aftertaste. Noteworthy are the cumulative amount of cheese choices, veggies and sauces you can add on for free. The average person should be more than covered. Even though no other orders aside from ours were occurring it still took 15+ plus minutes for them to bring the food to the table. A lot of this was due to the talking/goofing around from the staff. No one was what you would call in a hurry. Back in the day Wayback offered a burger of the month or some kind of special. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any verbiage about something like that currently going on. The whole fresh not frozen thing is to me an overrated marketing gimmick. Seemingly everyone does that now. What else do you have to offer that is unique or that differentiates you from the myriad of burger places that are everywhere? Some people want to group Wayback in with places like Smashburger or Elevation or Shake Shack but I don't think that's applicable. The difference is that the aforementioned places either attempt to pimp/hipster their burgers which is why they charge a premium for them. With Wayback it's all about simple. The whole experience was a disaster the moment we went to the counter. The kid taking the orders seemed completely clueless and screwed it up . Over charged us for a extra meal and wit dealing with that didn't realize we weren't charged for drinks. We came here on a Thursday night just before 5 p.m. At that time, the place wasn't very busy. That changed as it got later. It's clear that it is a popular place. Jake's Wayback Burgers started out in 1991 as a single burger joint in Newark, DE named Jake's Burgers. All their burgers are hand-made and are never frozen. In 2010, the owner decided to change the name to Jake's Wayback Burgers to remind people that their burgers are made like they were way back when. Now, it has become a chain with franchises scattered across the country. The ordering system works this way --- Upon entering, you go to the counter and give your order. If your order includes soda, you are given cups so that you can get your own. When your order is ready, the staff brings it to your table. The menu offers up more than beef burgers. There are veggie burgers, turkey burgers, salads, hot dogs, milk shakes and grilled cheese sandwiches among the many offerings. The adults in our party ordered the Jake Burger (two 4 oz. patties) and the Jake cheeseburger which, according to the clerk behind the counter comes with "orange cheese". "Orange cheese" --- describing cheese that way is somewhat off putting. I pictured some strange chemical creation that passed itself off as cheese. In reality, it looked and tasted like American cheese... We also had "side orders" of fries. Two of the grandkids had a kids burger and one had the kids hotdog. Kids meals come with fries. The burgers were decent---not the best I've had yet not the worst either. My husband found them to be too greasy, which had me thinking that there must be a fine line between a greasy burger and a juicy burger. Either way, I suspect that they use a high fat hamburger meat (maybe chuck?). They also offer a good selection of toppings at no charge. There is a 50 cent charge for mushrooms and chili. I am very picky,it has to be completely 'Well done' and no pink spots. I don't know how Jake's does it,But I always get a perfectly done burger that's still juicy and not dried out! Also the employees excuse for closing early was for him to leave quicker and I was told that " the restaurant was slammed so they shut the grills off and already cleaned them". Stopped in here for lunch for the first time and overall, thought the food and experience was just OK. I like Five Guys burgers much better! It took the food longer than I would have thought to come out--close to 15 minutes and the restaurant wasn't overly busy during our visit. Onion rings were good and we liked their house sauce, which was a mix of BBQ sauce and mustard. Meat on the burger was a bit thin and didn't have much flavor. We saw hibachi and got excited but they looked closed and I pointed out this place located right next door. I have been to Jake's a number of times and really like their burgers. I do like a greasy burger which these are so if you that turns you off you may not like them as much as I do. I would say they are similar to Five Guys and Elevation Burger which I'd also give 4 stars each. I've only had a non-burger (chicken sandwich) once and thought it was just average so I've stuck with their burgers since then. I think overall it's a bit on the pricey side. Depending on what burger I get it usually runs me $9-$12 for the meal (burger+fries+medium soda). This location has a TV which is good since it usually takes 5-10 minutes before getting your food. This is not a complaint. I'm not expecting it to take less time since they're not just grabbing a burger that was made half an hour earlier sitting under a heat lamp. read more

Maybe if the toasted it for 30 seconds the chill would have been gone. Fries were great. Not greasy like 5 guys. I the homemade lemonade which was pretty good. Service was fast for a weekend. I have been to Elevation Burger, 5 Guys and now Jake's Wayback Burgers. Jake's burgers are pretty good but not as good as Elevation's and has a smaller selection of toppings. Jake does have the best fries of the 3 chains and do offer onion rings and milk shakes also. I would recommend Jake and Elevation and I do not recommend 5 Guys. I do not understand all of the hype and excitement over 5 Guys. read more

Interaction with other customers was polite as a little girl dropped her cup on the ground and the staff willingly gave her father another one. Food was good and you can see the staff prepare it. I've been going to this place since I've moved here from California since it's the closest I can find to an In-N-Out Burger. As other reviewers have mentioned, prices are a bit on the higher side. Don't mind that at all since we do always use coupons from Clipper or Local Flavor. This have to be our 10th time there but not the first to notice that "Heather," who I think is the manager, barking orders at the staff or frantically doing her thing. During ordering, the guy behind the counter asked for assistance and Heather came over to help. Asked to see our coupon and seemed quite annoyed and when asked if I can swap fries with chips, she reluctantly and rudely said 'nope - not with coupons' Didn't really ask us what we wanted on our burgers and just completed our order and walked away and left the gentlemen to complete our order. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed with that whole experience and may or may not come back again... surely the rest of the staff may share the same feelings judging from the way she interacts with them. read more
