The night we were there, sweet pea soup, escargot, pierogis, mussels, arugula salad, filet mignon, John Dory, walleye, and a crab/pasta dish were on the menu. * Pricing is actually rather reasonable, between $14-22 for the app courses, and $32-52 for the 4 mains. It's BYOB, so that's a big savings as well. These sort of small scale restaurants that are a labor of love are getting harder and harder to find. The atmosphere is intimate, casual, and personal (fellow diners overheard that we forgot to bring a wine and they gave us an extra bottle they brought with them!). How could this chef's table-like place be in Pottstown, PA?!? When we were staying in the area ... we knew about the outlet shopping and the breweries, but getting food at this level was just absolutely CRAZY!! First, we knew we had to get a reservation at this small, intimate place that's only open for a few hours on Friday/Saturday nights and had to bring cash/check (as they don't take credit cards). No website ... but found their number on FB and left a message at 1:15p to see if we could possibly get in that evening at 6:30. Just an hour later and we received a text from the chef/owner Frank himself with reminders and information about the menu ... but we were in!! Since our hotel was closer than we thought, we arrived a few minutes early and easily parked in the municipal lot directly across the street. As we approached the unassuming location in the middle of the city block ... a gentleman greeted us at the door and immediately welcomed us inside by name. We were the first to arrive for the 6:30 seating and the man turned out to be host/waiter Matt. After getting us situated with some water and our BYOB beers ... we enjoyed a nice chat with him and was also so impressed that Frank had already made some menu accommodations for DH (who I mentioned via text earlier was interested in carbo-loading). Considering it's a limited chalk board menu every week ... we weren't expecting any changes just for us, but it was definitely very thoughtful and DH was thoroughly appreciative (as he opted for the Greens & Beans app turned entree with inclusion of the pasta he wanted). Starting with the complimentary (fresh, tasty) Mozzarella and Tomato Bruschetta served with warmly toasted bread ... we quickly realized that this was a true dining experience and not just an ordinary dinner. Next, the (nicely spiced) Crab Soup for me and (extraordinary) Pierogies for DH. Since every plate is carefully and lovingly made be the master chef for each and every guest ... it's quite understandable that it may have taken a little bit longer to get our next course - Spicy Mussels, but it was soooo worth the wait. We've have mussels in many, many places ... but these mussels were the absolute BEST we've ever had anywhere in the WORLD!! Not sure if it was the entire fresh thyme garden, the extra thick chunks of slab bacon, or the finely sourced spicy chilies ... but DH and I both agreed that we would have to travel back here just to get these mussels again. Oooh ... did I forget to mention the plate of crusty bread we dipped into that perfect juice that we also devoured The only downside was that we had a late day snack (after skipping breakfast) that was too close to our meal and we were now overly stuffed. As we stared at each other wondering how we were going to finish these out-of-the-world mussels ... let alone our main entrees, we finally had to cry uncle and forfeit the rest of our meals (after Matt graciously checked with Frank to ensure our entrees hadn't been started yet). However, we were able to get a glimpse at the Walleye and John Dory (which I ordered) from the nice people at the table next to us. They even offered to let us try their wonderful dishes, but we settled with pictures instead. Upon leaving, Matt led me to the kitchen where I just had to pay my compliments to Frank. Despite how busy he was ... his gracious hospitality in chatting with me was a shining light and is evidenced in each and every plate he beautifully creates. I have heard many good things about Henry's so I decided it would be the perfect place to celebrate my birthday. There was four in out party. The atmosphere was very intimate. We were welcomed with a warm smile. That was just the beginning. The food was absolutely amazing. Everything is cooked to order so nothing is rushed. The mussels melted in our mouths. This is by far the best BYOB restaurant in Pottstown. Small, intimate, and very personal. Your host will also be your waiter/server. You can watch the chef preparing the meals for you and your dining companions. They are at full capacity with approx 20 diners. But the food, ah yes the food. You won't find a better treatment of fresh fish. No matter what it is, salmon, Black Sea bass, scallops, etc. dishes are all to die for. I have eaten here many times and anytime I am back in the Pottstown area I make a special trip to Henry's. Be aware they are a limited exclusive dining experience. They are only open Thur-Saturday nights. Reservations are necessary unless you are dining very late as the main shift takes up the general hours of operation. My wife and I went here for the first time for an anniversary, our friends highly recommended we try this place. It's a small quaint place with about about 12 tables. The dinning areas looks into the open kitchen witch is only separated by a bar height counter with room for a few seats. Frank is the chef and Christine is waitress, sous chef and everything else that is needed. It a two people band, but they are a well oiled machine and can easily handle the size of the restaurant. The great thing about this place is of course the amazing food, but you feel like you have a personal chef cooking for you. You can see everything Frank is doing and occasionally he will shout out to the dinning room making you feel like your in his own kitchen in his house. Let's get to the food, it's off the charts delicious, it's a small menus with fresh quality ingredients. I got the spicy muscles which were some the best I have ever had. Moving on the main course, they featured a tout dish that was not your average trout, it was slightly pink in color and very flaky. My wife had the Branzino fish with fennel, again another amazing plate. They are byob and only accepts cash. I was really, really looking forward to eating here. I even got a reservation with my brother a week in advance. The food looks incredible, but I wouldn't know how good it really is because I never got the chance to try any. We arrived at 6:30 and were a sitting at our table for 40 minutes without even putting our orders in. We didn't even get any bread during this time. I would have understood that maybe the cook was behind but then other tables started showing up and they began to be served immediately. It's like the waiter completely forgot about us. Since I was starving, we decided to leave and go to OONI instead, which provided prompt service and reasonable prices. The prices at Henry's are outrageous. I don't care how good the food is. I'm sure you can find just as good food somewhere else for half of the price. I cannot recommend this place any less. If you want to spend 3 - 4 hours for overpriced food, this is the place for you, I guess. I've never been so disappointed by a restaurant before. read more

This is a fantastic, but quirky restaurant that you need to know a few things about. First it is cash only and it is not cheap. So, make sure you tap MAC for about $150 if you are a couple want to eat the recommended four course meal. We had two courses each, a vegetable and entree, and it ran us about one ninety six dollars with tip. Second, it is bring your own bottle establishment. So, do not forget to bring your bottle of wine. Everyone else did when we were there. We felt like out-of-the-know neophytes. Third, it is small and popular. So if you have a big party, make reservations. Finally, there is a leisurely relaxing pace to this restaurant so slot two and a half to three and a half hours for dinner. The food is probably the best in about about a forty mile radius. The cuisine defines delicious. The serving size is satisfying, but not large and stuffing that some restaurants give. The ingredients are fresh and tasty. The flavors from my greens and beans were well balanced but distinctive. The cooking is done to the point of perfection. The meat just fell off my ribs. However, it was not soggy and tasteless Nothing was undercooked. The herbs were added so they accented the flavor of the main ingredients and made there flavor better. When you leave you will understand why this dining room has a hard core loyal following and and generates a buzz from the locals that have eaten there. There is more to rave about than the food. You will probably like the staff like we did. They are cheerful, nice and enthusiastic. You can tell by the way they treat you they enjoy what they do. There is not some standing by like at five star restaurants but they are very attentive and accommodating. For example, I wanted a piece of bread to soak up the gravy from my ribs and they were glad to get it for me. The atmosphere is quaint and interesting. The staff and clientele are dressed casually. It may be a little cluttered. However, you can tell there focus is on the food and the service. It is intentional and it is meant to be a foodie heaven rather than an elitist five star restaurant. This is a restaurant you must go to to. It is a one of the reasons why people are starting to think there is a chance that Pottstown may be having a rebirth. read more

Our family had a great time at Henry's last night. It's a very welcoming, and cozy setting. The house made bruschetta w/ the feta cheese was outstanding. We got the mussels, which were fresh, and tasty with a very nice broth. Our entrees were the Amberjack with local peas, and button mushrooms, and a very succulent Grouper with Swiss Chard, caramelized onion, and Fregola(Sardinian couscous). They were both very well made. Finally, we finished with a blueberry cobbler with reduced blueberry sauce, and a dusting of powdered sugar. Yeah. We had THAT good of a meal in Pottstown. I'm in love with this place. I love knowing that anything I choose will be delicious. I love the limited choices because I'm so indecisive. This was my favorite dining experience in a long time. Our sweet waitress brought some hummus and olives to the table. It was tasty. Clam chowder- broth base, lots of clams, excellent flavor. Spicy mussels...this was my favorite. The spicy broth and tender mussels were a party in my mouth. You just keep wanting more. Beautiful crusty bread to dip in the broth...I was seriously in heaven. Poached oysters...never tried such a dish. The oysters were soft, almost melting in your mouth. They were very good, resting in a curry, coconut milk sauce with fresh cilantro. The flavor is unique and yummy. Last came the fish dishes. We had the grouper and the marlin. Both were delicious. The grouper had a tasty black pepper seasoning on it. It was accompanied by a little salad concoction with cucumber and carrot in a delicious viniagrette. Some vegetables were also on the plate..a creative mix of a grain, plus paper thin zucchini and other yummy tidbits. The presentation and creativity is wonderful...everything was top notch. The service was excellent. By the time we left, we felt like we knew everyone. Our waitress called us by name...just so impressed with everything. Chef Frank, will you marry me? If I could give 10 stars, I would. Still by far the BEST restaurant in Pottstown, maybe even Montgomery County. I have been there at least 4 times now. Last time was 12/2018. We had a small company Christmas party (8 people/family style) and no one walked away hungry. First, let me say that our waitress addressed us all by our first names the entire dinner which lasted about 3-4 hours and many many bottles of wine. The spicy mussels are one of my favorites. I also love the goat cheese salad. Frank made a cold shrimp cocktail platter that was out of this world. The shrimp were huge and tasted so fresh - like they were just caught. I recently "discovered" Henry's as Frank (Owner/Chef) doesn't really advertise. What a wonderful surprise. Understanding everyone's experience may be different, I cannot fathom anyone not enjoying Henry's. Each dish is a unique blend of fresh ingredients (and I mean FRESH), very tasty blends of spices and a heavy dose of Franks personality. I was most recently there for the New Orleans themed night. A six course meal paired with wine. Every dish was true to the theme. But the Alligator stole the show. It is clear that Frank knows seafood and you simply can't go wrong stepping through the front door and having Denise (host) show you to a table. Things to know: It is small and when full, a little loud (but I welcome that environment). The local crowd is very friendly and that makes for a fun evening. You can consider certain tables a bit better suited for a romanic dinner, so just ask Denise, she'll take care of you. It's BYOB with a liquor store around the corner (state store has limited hours so be sure to check). Henry's is only open certain days and times, so CALL FIRST. Portions are generous, pricing is very good for the area. Oh, they only accept cash, no credit cards. Henry's is a place that should be frequented by everyone in the area. Dear sweet baby Jesus, this place is amazing. I went here with a party of eleven the other night for a friend's birthday, and I was blown away. Everyone there was so awesome and friendly, it made the dining experience just that much better. The menu is so interesting, with someone on there for everyone. And make sure you check out the specials up on the boards (someone raved about the chicken livers, not my thing, but you might want to consider it). For my appetizer, I had the spicy mussels. Holy moly - they are not kidding, these things were spicy as hell, but super delicious. If you can't tolerate heat, steer clear! (They aren't called spicy mussels for nothing, after all.) For my entree, I had the ravioli and crab - it was awesome! I could rave about this place for at least an hour, but why would I do that? Go to Henry's - you'll love it. read more

Four of us went to Henry's this past Saturday night to celebrate a special occasion. I did not tell anyone where we were going and anticipation built as we drove into Pottstown. To summarize, this is one of the best meals and service experience I have had in a very long time. Interesting menu, but not "out there." Started with the mussels and had the Chilean Sea Bass, both of which were excellent. Shared the blueberry cobbler with ice cream, which was heaven. The service from Diane was a perfect balance of warmth and food knowledge. Also got to meet Frank, who obviously loves what he does. The interior is a funky mix of decor, which gave me the happy feeling of being inside someone's large dining room at home, with my host preparing the meal on the other side of the room. Love BYOB and appreciate their practical "cash only" policy. (All my money is paying for food/service/ambiance - not finance fees!) Prepare for a long meal duration - quality takes time - but it was worth it. Unlike most places where I get antsy waiting, this whole experience was nothing short of delightful. My only regret in writing this review is that Henry's may become so popular that I won't be able to get a reservation. But these folks deserve success; Henry's is the real deal. read more

What a lovely diamond in the rough. Pottstown is an eye sore of a town and this establishment certainly stands out. Service: The staff here is excellent. They are friendly and outgoing. By far some of the best waitresses I have ever experienced. Let's just say they are masters at their job. Food: Superior. Nice size dishes (not overly stuffed, perfect portion. The dishes and menu are masterful. The chef (there is only one it seems) knows what he's doing. Atmosphere/Location: A small intimate restaurant with interesting decor. You almost feel as if you are at a family gathering. Cozy. With that being said the area in which it's located is awful. Pottstown can be pretty intimidating to some. Note: The reason I gave this establishment only 3 stars is that our reservation was at 6:00 pm and we did not leave until 10:00. Prepare to sit for a long time between courses. Sadly in my opinion 4 hours is way too long. I understand the food is fresh and prepared on the spot but that much time is pretty extreme. One last note... Make sure you bring cash. It has a family feel and they treat you as such. The food takes a little while but it is fresh, delicious and worth the wait. This is the only place I get an appetizer (sometimes two to share), an entree and dessert. If I could give bonus points for this place I would. As a daughter of a Chef I am very picky about food. I went a few months ago and am still thinking about it. The server was very friendly as was Frank. I told him how good the food was. My husband's chilean sea bass was so delicious, moist, and fresh. I want to go back for the chicken livers. This place is as good as it gets, and I am struggling to understand why its overall rating is a mere 4.5 stars out of 5. You would think 4.5 stars is good enough but for this place, nah, it just doesn't cut it. My experience there every time I go is just outstanding. The service is better then good, and they really really make you feel like your at home. They purpously serve courses with a lot of time between them, Id say i spent 2 1/2 hours there all together and that's how I want it to be. The prices are high - but I would probabaly spend more there just because the food and service is that good. The owner, and main chef, prepares food like no other. I have been to many many places to eat and never have I had such an amazing meal. Start with the cheese board - believe me. Ill do a quick review of the food: - The escargot is easily the best ive ever had, and Ive tried numerous. I believe its how they prepare it, already out of the shell in a creamy pesto-esque sauce. Just ungodly. -I think their specialty is their seafood. The chef makes a MEAN fish, and I dont just mean one kind of fish, I mean all fish. They have exotic species their sometimes and he prepares them in a way like you have never tried. -YOU MUST FINISH WITH THE BLUEBERRY COBBLER. You will actually believe you have passed on and are now dining with royalty in a large castle in the clouds. Heavenly. I dont want to forget the waitress - best Ive ever had. Really took care of us. Us and a bunch of friends went here New Year's Eve for dinner. We did this last year and had so much fun that we thought we would do it again this year. Unfortunately, the experience wasn't as enjoyable this go around. We come here a few times throughout the year and we know that service here is slow and that dinner can easily take upwards of three hours. This is normally OK as we are out with friends talking, laughing, and generally having a good time. On this occasion, the service was painfully slow. We arrived at 6pm and by 10pm, we still were not served our dinners. It wound up being close to 10:45 when we got our meals. Many of us had babysitters that we told we would be home around 9pm. Two of our friends had to leave before they even got their entrees while the rest of us ended up scarfing down our entree as we needed to get home. While I can accept a certain level of slow service, this was just ridiculous. Given that I'm sure everyone there had reservations, you would have had to have known how many people were going to be there and you need to adjust accordingly. The problem is there is just one person doing all of the cooking and when the place is packed (which it was), you need to know when to call in help. The waitress was very apologetic, but in the end, it was a disappointing evening. read more

What a find! A great place to linger over courses with friends, with no one rushing you out the door. We shared appetizers. One of the specials, the spicy mussels, burst with flavor, as did just about everything we ate there. The cheese plate was excellent. The beet salad was one of the best salads I've ever eaten. My entree of short ribs was good, but I liked my husband's fish dish better. The waitress was super warm and friendly, as was everyone who worked there. Will definitely be back! read more
