My review is only for the actual bagels, as in the baked dough, not the sandwiches. Note that fresh…read moreyou can only by plain, but you can buy poppy, sesame, whole wheat, and a few other flavors frozen for take-out. Northern Europe is known for its smoked fish, and as an American, I find smoked fish (especially salmon) to call for a bagel to put it on. But, these parts of Europe aren't known for their bagels. So, I ventured down to Sodermalm in search of a bagel from one of the few places in Stockholm that makes them, and took it home to put some fish on it. And, it really wasn't bad! Not the best bagel I've had ever, but it had a nice flavor, particularly when toasted. Bit on the squishy side, which is normal in Europe. Certainly meets the need for a bagel.

The bagel is reminiscent of a Thomas' Breads bagel that they sell in supermarkets in the States. They were oddly sweet and lacking texture differences between the outside and inside of the bagel (bagels are supposed to be a bit tough on the outside, and these were just soft and squishy). The inside wasn't bad, but also wasn't great. I got the Stockholm bagel, and the eggs and caviar were nice together, but the eggs weren't super fresh. It was a bit messy to eat, and every time you took a bite, the filling would fall out of the other end. It's probably because the bagel itself wasn't capable of holding contents in. I guess it's decent for a bagel in Stockholm, but people from the States might as well just wait for their next visit home, and handle their bagel-fixes then.

I recently found this little store that only carries frozen food! Yep, you heard me... only frozen…read morefood! It's a little bit of a strange concept, but I like it! I'm always looking for nice, new or interesting grocery products and this place definitely has a few things that I was missing here in Sweden. The brand Picard is from France and (I think) has only been in Stockholm for a couple of years. A lot of what they carry is French style items (ex- crepes, galettes, etc.), but they do have a surprising amount of American style items (ex- chili, sweet potato fries, bagels, etc.) Why haven't I wandered in here sooner!? Though, it's understandable since It doesn't really look like much from the outside. The whole store only consists of top-loading freezers! LOL. Frozen food is frozen food--that said, your not going to have the freshest or most foodgasmic experience with anything in this store because of the nature of the product. However, I do think that some of the things here are made with quality and are incredibly convenient. The frozen sweet potato fries were my best discovery here so far! Though, I have yet to try the flavor out. Thats on the menu for dinner soon! It's a serious pain in the butt to make homemade SP french fries!!! Some of the other items I found here were really great too! I wouldn't even really be embarrassed to serve some of what I saw to guests--the hors d'oeuvres and canapés looked lovely! The deserts also looked yummy! I have yet to try them, but i'm definitely coming back here so no worries there. Their frozen bagels are good. They have frozen fajitas we just made that also weren't too bad! I liked their crepes and galettes a lot too--they carried both pre-made filled ones and pre-made empty ones (so you can easily fill your own). If your looking for a balance of convenience, economy and quality I think this a good place for you! The meat, veggies, seafood and prepared items are much more attractive than what you see in the regular grocery store freezer but are pretty compatible in price. If your looking for something specifically frozen, I would pick this place a hundred times over any other option here in Stockholm... hands down! Thanks France. Thumbs up!

To wit: A frozen pre-baked apricot tart that requires 15 minutes of warming in the oven. First, it is topped with apricot halves that are actually ripe with just a bit of tartness and intensely flavored. They are neither over-baked nor too sweet. Just right. The crust is not the classical pate brisee or pate sucre, as it seems to have baking powder in it, giving it a slight rise and more crumb than the classical version. However, this does not detract much from it. The first bite reveals a rich, buttery flavor, which carries through to the aftertaste. This is a very high quality frozen desert which I would serve without reservation friends or guests.
