My first encounter with Dr. Adams was a pleasant one and a professional one and it was when I was the patient.
After this experience, I decided to have my daughter who has special-needs regarding dentistry from abuse in the past and suffers from severe PTSD upon entering a dental office, go to see him for her Rootcanal.
I called the office on 3 separate occasions to prepare them that she would be suffering severe anxiety and would need extra TLC ... she would be with her big sister and her stuffed animal, and that she would be experiencing extreme anxiety and PTSD, with regard to the horrific treatment in the past as a young child and young adult.
I gave lengthy details and I called on numerous occasions and the secretary appeared to accept lovingly all the information and background that I gave her regarding my daughter's special-needs.
I felt confident. Then I get two horrific phone calls during the time of the scheduled appointment... one from my daughter, the patient, who felt abused once again from Dr Adams. And one from her big sister feeling extremely saddened by what she observed by Dr Adams' treatment of her scared sister.
Sadly, I had assured them it would be a positive experience... but I was wrong ...
She did not bring up the topic, but answered honestly a question posed by Dr. Adams' on the office paperwork ...
And when she expressed her honest option of her anger and fear and uncomfortableness and hatred of dentists based on the dental abuse history of her life ...
and while she was in the middle experiencing of a severe anxiety attack in the chair... while grabbing her sister's hand and her stuffed animal ...
Dr Adams kicked her out of the office ... he was apparently appalled by her behavior and rather than calming her fears he made them worse.
He could have understood her special needs and said something like ...you have horrible experiences in the past, but I'll change that ... I'll treat your fears with TLC and make this a positive experience...
BUT NO!!!!
Apparently he struggles with his own issues and instead of treating my special needs daughter with respect, he literally told her to get out and he refused to help her.
I asked for an apology note, but none came... my daughter's behavior was not viewed in light of her PTSD, but rather upset him and added to her horribly uncomfortable feelings she has with regards to dentists.
Praise God, we finally found a loving Rootcanal dentist that was amazing along with her entire staff. I forgive Dr. Adams, but felt the need to let others know he would not be the Dr. for you if you have special needs. read more
