Gene's Evergreens - What we saw on top of the pallets

The two grasses I bought are just beautiful and Gene's regular price was much lower than I expected to pay for ones of their size. The man who helped me was very knowledgeable and courteous, and I just love the country "feel" of the place! A sweet black and white kitty was the first to greet me when I entered the store to look for help. Then, I noticed so many interesting things to look at and buy for the garden. I knew right then that I was going to have to come back again soon when I had time to just browse. Mostly, however, I was impressed by the quality of plant material surrounding the store. All the plants looked very healthy, and the prices were very reasonable. So, I drew a picture of my foundation landscaping for the man who helped me with the grass to discuss my ideas with him and see what he might suggest to solve a challenging aesthetic problem. In just a few minutes, he ended up showing me what I believe will be the perfect solution! In fact, I am going back today to buy those plants after discussing this approach with my husband. Bottom line, I shop for value first, but ambiance and service are just as important to me - and Gene's Evergreens seems to have it all. If you are as fussy as I am and if you love real country places, check out Gene's on Mountain Road. Update 11/14/12: One of the three evergreens I purchased did not make it after about a year, so I went back to see about replacing it. I did not have my receipt, but the owner offered to give me 50% credit toward another one like it. I thought this was amazing since it is likely that we did not plant it correctly and over-watered it, so it was not that the plant was unhealthy or anything.

When the pallets were delivered and my husband started the project and opened up the pallets, what was inside the pallets was rubble, small, and some medium sized pieces. Not many large pieces - maybe 15 in all. When I called to speak to the owner he said he didn't know anything about what was in the pallets. He I saw the same thing he saw. My suggestion to him - let people know before purchasing. Put a sign up. We assume, as the owner of Genes, that he knows what he is selling to the buyer. Now we need to buy more bluestone, and I won't buy from him. I'll go buy from somewhere who deals in stone. I suggested he give us two pallets for free since most of our product was worthless and said - "I won't do that". Oh and lastly - one of the bigger pieces had already been cut around a 4x4 post.

This is my local IKEA, and it is definitely a good location. I think they've done some renovation…read morerecently, and of course IKEA is always coming up with new things for us to enjoy. If you're me, you always plan a trip to IKEA that includes going to the restaurant. For many years I just stuck to the meatballs, getting French fries instead of mashed potatoes with gravy on top, but their Stockholm salad and their cooked fish dishes are fantastic as well, and I've been selecting those lately.

The service from IKEA staff was very helpful and very friendly. We saw the items either on display and decided that we would like to get them or we saw them on the shelf at the value that we could afford so we decided to pick them up as well. We only had one issue with the store; its layout. We had a hard time locating items when the screen said to go to certain aisles and locations. We had a hard time finding out where those areas were to find the products. The store didn't exactly have a well written out description of where aisles and locations were at. To find most of the items we were looking for we had to actually ask staff members for almost all of my items. It might be a better idea for future stores to show a better written plan of where the aisles are located at as in if somebody asks for aisle 7, the screen will tell them something like second floor. Just passed the light section and possibly show a floor plan/map to where aisle 7 is, and a spot where you are and possibly a line for a direction of how to get there. It might be the most useful idea because me and my mother looking for specific things even though we had the numbers for the items we wanted couldn't find probably 90% of our products in the store because of it's funky set up. Sorry about me dissing your store set up, but I had no idea where I was or where to go in your store at least half the time I was inside it.
