Crochet hooks - their entire inventory, except a couple of super jumbo hooks on a rotating rack. Nothing between 2.5 and 8 mm.

The Yarn selection at Webs is as always, astonishingly wide and varied and beautifully displayed! However, the selection of the tools that you need to work with the yarn, namely, needles, and crochet hooks, is PATHETIC. More empty holes than hooks or needles on the racks and also when here two months ago. The staff says "we're waiting for them to come in" and "whenever we get a small order they are snapped up right away" which is idiotic. Any *competent* manager would conclude that therefore they should order more! And keep them in stock. Because you can't make a profit on items you don't sell; you can't sell items that you don't have in the store! I can't believe I have to go to a big box chain store to get a single 4mm hook. They have nothing between 2.5 and 8 mm at all. And they've also stopped carrying fiber, or tools for handspinners. A couple of wheels and a few lonely braids of dyed fiber. Not ordering more they said. Deeply disappointed. Taking WEBS off my list of places to go on a special day out.

Splurged on some beautiful cashmere yarn

Soooooo much yarn; prepare yourself. I mean that in a good way of course. You find actual good quality yarn here, not the cheap stuff at joanns or michaels. I splurged on some cashmere yarn; absolutely gorgeous, and elegant. Be warned; you will spend too much lol!

24 different colorways, 36 skeins Kureyon. Pattern is called "64 Crayons" after the Crayola box. Pattern is available on Ravelry.

It would be hard to find a better yarn store if you are any kind of knitting or crocheting crafter. I have been both since my nanny taught me to knit when I was about 5 years old. Since then, I have made hundreds of items, mostly knitting, but crocheting and weaving too. I have also woven my own textiles with a loom. So, when I stumbled into this store the first time I was in the five-college neighborhood, I felt as if I had gone to THE yarn supplier of the ages. And I still feel that way. I only work with wool fiber, which means each project is a bit costly and the finished item needs continual vigilance and care to keep it clean and moth-free. But, it is worth it as nothing takes dye and holds it for years, like wool. I actually have an afghan that my grandfather bought from a patient who made it over 100 years ago and it has not faded. (It is a bit dry, though, lol). So, when I decided to make a knitted blanket last Spring from one of my favorite yarns by Noro, I knew the only place I could order dozens of skeins of Kureyon in different colors was Webs. The reason is, most yarn stores, if they still exist -- they do tend to go out of business, sadly, regularly -- will only sell Noro yarns in bulk to you and they have to order them, which takes a lot of time. Webs has them in stock, all the time. I underestimated the number of skeins I needed for this blanket and was able to order extras several times from Webs, with no problem. They have wonderful discounts for buying multiples, carry every kind of yarn you can imagine, and get them to you quickly, well wrapped. What more would we want? I am also thankful that they are still here, thriving, through it all after so many years. Thank you, Webs!

The hard to find tunisian. Crochet book that I bought for just the cover price
    Wendy H.

I've never been to the store. I found Webs when I did a search for a tunisian crochet book. Amazon carried this book but they were charging $60 for a $25 book. After a search online, I found the book at Webs. They had only one copy left and they were charging the cover price. I also ordered some sock yarn. Order took about 2 weeks to arrive. However, they packed the book with cardboard so it didn't get bent. good service.

High shipping charges based on item weight, not purchase subtotal.

Ask the Community - WEBS - America's Yarn Store

If my Wife drags me here, is there an area where I can sit and relax?

Yes there is! At the very front entrance, across from checkout so you couldn't be missed on the way out, there are a pair of cozy armchairs with outlets in reach.

One of the things that makes Northampton, well, Northampton, is Essentials. I started shopping at…read moreEssentials almost twenty years ago, and it's been a staple of my quirky life ever since. It's changed hands twice in my awareness, and just keeps getting better and better with age. This is a design-focused, design-heavy shop, and there are things I can pretty much only get AT Essentials; for instance, they've got a cut-to-custom-length ribbon bar, and some of that ribbon is vintage, and my absolute favorite is the hand-dyed silk. Also, they've got the best collection of Tintin and other European character favorites (like Barbapapa and Babar) this side of the pond. Oh, and the staff is wonderful. Knowledgable, friendly, thoughtful, and creative. Over the years, the cast of characters has changed, but it's always top-shelf. One giant boon: they've helped me put together a gift in no time, saving my bacon on numerous occasions! On a typical day, you can find stationery of all kinds, the indier the better; dishware; rubber stamps; intriguing books (think Chronicle); bath goods; bags of all shapes, sizes, and purposes; clothes and scarves; eight million things for kids, from blankies to onesies to stuffed alligators; jewelry; small home goods; special pens; DIY kits; custom furniture; large sheets of beautiful artisan paper; and a ton of things I'm forgetting. And one other thing about Essentials I am not forgetting, but which I saved for last, because it's my favorite. Essentials has an in-house design and print studio. And they also work with a select group of indie designers and printers who create everything from business cards to party invites. Here is where Colette, the current owner, really freaking shines, in my opinion. There was one thing I wanted when it came time to get married. One. Thing. That one thing was letterpress wedding invitations from Essentials. Colette took us from beautiful nebulous idea to flawlessly-executed product without ever breaking a sweat. I don't know if you've ever worked with people who are about to get married, but we are not always the most poised, cool-headed, or unflappable of people; Colette sat us down in the big comfy chairs and made sketches and phone calls, and really made our family feel like we were the only people in the entire world. Go see what I'm talking about - our invitation is probably still hanging in its golden-framed, green-paper-backed glory. Nearly four thousand miles away now, and I'm still bouncing in my chair as I look forward to my next trip to Essentials, whenever it may be.

We received a lovely gift of several girls garments, however we have a male child. The store manager, who did not have the courage to call us, rather made a sales associate do their work, informed us without a receipt we can not get a store credit. So wonderful Essentials, you made some money from this sale, but you lost a lot more revenue from this here shopper.
