The owner, John, was very upfront about expectations, and said it could possibly be in the $2.5 to $4k range if another rebuild and expensive parts were needed. After he had a chance to take it apart to inspect, he determined the main problem was that it needed a new solenoid body. He replaced it, along with some other work, and the cost for parts and labor was a fraction of the initial rough estimate he gave. The best part is the T-Bird shifts great now and is a joy to drive again (I can put that V8 to good use now :) John was honest, fair and really knew what he was doing to get the job done right (and, as a side note, a really nice guy to deal with).
