This Wegmans is located on Lancaster Avenue in Downingtown. I always found this Wegmans carrying fresh vegetables healthy options for takeout, pizza/hoagie take out options, cake and bread. They also have wine and beer collection available for purchase. The store as such has custom order to cakes, and I always liked cake flavor and the decoration they put on the cakes. They're open a little late, and they also have a place to eat within the store around the cafe area. The parking is good enough. However, during the busy hours, it's tough to go in and get out. In general, Wegmans is pretty good, and I rarely write a poor review about anything, but this was completely unacceptable for such a simple thing. Needed a loaf of Tuscan bread. There were no pre-sliced loaves available, so I asked the lady standing behind the counter, "could you slice this for me?" so she replied "go see that guy down there" So, I went down there. After standing there for a few minutes, he looked up and asked in a very annoyed voice "Yes?" I asked him the same question, and he replied " go see that lady down there" pointing to the area I had just left , except by that time there was nobody there. When I told him the she just sent me over to him, he just shrugged and walked away. Maybe I'm being too harsh and he was looking for someone with the training and expertise to operate the slicer. Anyway, the bread was delicious, and I will buy it again, but will just plan on executing the highly skilled task of slicing it myself. read more

Easily my favorite large market/grocery store in the area. Great selection of fresh meats, cheeses, groceries, produce and baked goods. High quality take and bake meals for those on the go. It's not just that Wegman's is an upscale grocery store, it's that individual sections are good enough to stand on their own. For example, the store's wine and liquor selections could rival most speciality stores. Competitive prices for your more common offerings, but also a lot of imports that aren't carried by the state stores - including premium vintages. I've almost never waited for very long on line, despite how busy this store always is. Staff is helpful and plentiful, and I've never not been able to find what I needed, for any recipe. read more

Oh Wegmans, how I love thee! Seriously this is one of my favorite places to go to. What's not to love. It's a huge store and you can easily spend hours here. It blows Whole Foods our of the water. They have hundreds of cheese selections, the most amazing bakery with fresh bagels, muffins, cookies, breads, cakes and pastries galore. We've gotten countless cakes from here and they are always delicious and not overly sweet. The breads are amazing, I love the marathon bread! We love their bagels and never leave without a dozen... the everything and cinnamon raisin are delicious. I've had their muffins and countless other pastries that never disappoint. Their meat selection is fabulous and we love how the meat is individually packaged and vacuumed sealed (say one chicken breast) but you can put buy a whole pack and you can get it marinated... speaking or marinades, the Wegmans brand are amazing!!! We love all their cheeses, produce can be expensive, they have amazing homemade veggie burgers and perogies. They have a great beer selection and you can build your own 6 pack. They have a huge hot Foods bar, sandwich and pizza shop and countless other options for very delicious take out or dine in options. Oh and I can't forget about their olive bar! They have an expansive seafood selection including sushi. Last but not least, their healthy food section is amazing and you can always find everything you need. So many options, it can be overwhelming! They have a huge international food section too. As you can see, I am a huge Wegmans fan. It's been more than 10 years since I visited this Wegman's. It's a good upscale market, but it's lost its luster for me. Back then you could buy fresh truffles and chauource. Not today. They cater to more mainstream clientele - good luck finding a head of lettuce that's not wrapped in plastic or cellophane. I had to hunt for the hazelnuts (not in the computer inventory except for in things like Nutella) but found them in bulk foods thanks to a very helpful customer service person who suggested I look there on a long shot. You can buy a lot of things there including party and catering type items and there is a generous international foods section, but it's not as upscale as it used to be. [sigh] read more

I've been hearing a lot about Wegman's since my best gal pal moved to PA. "Wegman's is amazing! We ate dinner there and will probably go for lunch tomorrow!" "Wegman's is a foodie's dream!" "They have great deals in Wegman's!" I was confused at first over this Wegman that took over my friend's life, so when we drove in for the weekend for her wedding, the bridal party came here after rehearsal for lunch. Although I wasn't nearly as giddy as my counterparts, I did have butterflies mixed in with a hunger pain; close enough I guess. Wegman's really is like a WholeFoods on steroids. Anything you'd most likely want for lunch, is here right at your greedy finger tips! What am I talking about? I'm talking sushi, Chinese food, American food, vegan, veggies, cold cuts, pizza, soups; the list honestly goes on and on! They weigh your food you little fatty: so ease up on what you put in there, and make your selections wisely. Although I must say, the pricing was very reasonable. Clean buffet stations and lots of staff was there to help us out as the mass mob headed for the food. We then paid and said down at the tables and chairs in their "eat-in" section. I would definitely frequent this place if I lived as close as my gal pal; heck, I might even come here for a pit stop the next time I visit! read more

We just hand the worst shopping experience of any grocery store we have ever shopped in. The checkout clerk was ultra aggressive wouldn't reach our cart to scan a case of water intentionally placed the bread and rolls at the bottom of our bag crushing them refused to bag half of our items then flipped the receipt at me allowing it to fall to counter. Never shopping this store again we live between Malvern and Downingtown, Malvern is where we will shop from now on!! read more

We have been going to Wegmans for years but over the course of the last 6 - 9 months, have been driving a bit further to Giant. The availability & selection of items @ Wegmans has decreased quite a bit and we had been finding more empty shelves and less brand options. Also started noticing the proliferation of Wegmans branded items which, in looking at selection of similar options, is to the detriment of competing brands. I am all for a company maximizing their profits by selling their own brand name items but when it is directly impacting me the consumer by having less options, less selections, and ultimately less price competition; I choose to go elsewhere. Wegman has always been too expensive but at least food was fresh. During this period of food delivery, their vegetables are spoiled & rotting! It's very disappointing! I ordered $34.92 of grocery that cost $46 delivered. After opening plastic wrappers, I found baby corn spoiled, lettuce spoiled for 4 layers, and cauliflower rotten. Here are some photos! Been shopping at Wegmans for over 10 yrs, first in Princeton when I lived there and most recently, the Downingtown store used to be where I shopped weekly, until I moved last year. The big difference (and a major source of disappointment for me) between the Princeton store and here was that Princeton has an adjoining store (owned and operated by Wegmans) which sells wine, beer and spirits. This is not Wegman's fault, but rather restrictions by state laws. Well, recently the Downingtown Wegmans also started to sell gourmet beer !! YAYY !! Now, I might have to make the extra 45min commute until the Wegmans near my house opens in Oct 2009. P.S: Browse the decent sized International section, try some cheeses, browse the bulk chocolate/nuts, try their store made bagels and spreads along with store squeezed fresh orange juice. read more

Wegman's has recently begun their "Senior Hour" on Tuesday morning (ONLY) from 7:00-8:00 AM -- SOMETHING THAT WAS MUCH NEEDED TO PROTECT THE VULNERABLE SENIOR POPULATION, but not honored until a week ago. Unfortunately, when we tried this option at the Downingtown store in PA -- there was a long line and over 50% of the people that stood in this line were NOT seniors. When I had communicated with the customer service department the previous day, I was told that anyone who was not a senior would not be permitted to enter the store until 8:00 AM. This did NOT happen! Ironically, while people waited outside, everyone spaced themselves approximately 6 ft from the other person. But as soon as the Wegman's team opened the doors, everyone was allowed into the store at ONE time. There was NO social distancing -- and no regard for and respect for the elderly. This is unacceptable, Wegman's! You should learn a lesson of how it SHOULD be done by visiting a neighborhood store like Giant or Whole Foods. They have a (one hour) senior slot in the AM EVERY day of the week --- and they ADHERE to it! Many seniors were obviously upset. When I finally found the assistant manager and expressed my concern (there was no one in the customer service section), he snickered and thought it was funny -- which appalled me. He then said he... "also had to take care of the people who had a compromised immune system, and... What was I -- a doctor?" in a snide, unprofessional manner. I asked him how ignoring social distancing and cramming seniors and people with compromised issues is "taking care of them?" HE had been the one who chose to ignore what social distancing meant when he let everyone in at the SAME time. I also told him that the young women behind me were unaware of the "senior hour" and just wanted to get there early. They remained in line because they didn't think they would be turned away -- and they weren't. As I wrapped up my shopping, the Manager approached me. After I had expressed my concern -- again, he told me that he would "take care of the situation." He was professional in his response. We will see if there is a serious attempt to rectify this situation. What transpired was VERY RISKY for anyone who was a senior -- or for anyone who had a compromised immune issue. I've been shopping here for years. When it first opened, it was the best grocery store I've seen! Great selection and they had virtually everything. Unfortunately, they have been transitioning everything into their own "Wegmans" label and have limited selection of competitive brands, the shelves are often empty or sparsely supplied. Numerous times I've been forced to buy Wegmans label or worse, forced to go to another store to find what I'm looking for. I went to Wegman's in Downingtown, PA, today and was shocked at the number of customers there. It was as if the pandemic never happened. Thankfully everyone was wearing a mask but it was impossible to social distance. On the way out I asked the person at customer service what happened to the safety regulations that were previously in place, only allowing so many customers in the store at one time and cues outside before you were allowed in. Great prices: i noted that a popular brand of ice cream at regular price (not marked "on sale") was a dollar a box cheaper than at our "low price" store in Delaware (Delaware doesn't have a Wegmans.) $2.99 vs $3.99 The selection of meats and cheese was really wide: I didn't check lamb and other "odd" meats but I did see veal chops, which are hard to find out our way. There was real Parmesana Reggiano in the wheel, with wedges cut. I didn't try any to see if the quality was good. Sometimes you get parmesan cut off a wheel and it's the same waxy atrocity passed off as parmesan, but next time, I'll try it and see. Good parmesan is addictive. I could eat it alone, but of course it's super in cooking any kind of food requiring cheese mixed in or on top. Fish looked fresh on ice. The scallops looked beautiful. The fresh fish--some was local such as Jersey flounder. There were porgy and farm-raised branzino. (Sea bass or loup de mer, a popular European fish for grilling.) The fish on ice were not covered by a shield or behind glass. They were out in bins, rather like you see in Chinese or Korean markets. The shellfish was in temperature controlled cases with chilled trays. There is a large gluten free section for foods like pasta, cookies, flours and other items for those with celiac or gluten intolerance. The vegetable section was huge but the mangoes were over-ripe and wrinkly. Only the three-pack of organic mangoes (much more expensive) were decent. Many kinds of apples, all looking fairly good except for the Jazz apples, which looked tired out. But there were Empire, Macintosh, Jazz, Gala, Braeburn, Jazz, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp and more--and it's not even apple season. Blueberries were inexpensive: $4.99 for a quart box--about right this time of year. There were red bananas, something you don't see in stores anymore. it used to be there would be a few in every store, but because shoppers won't buy them, even though they taste great, they've been dropped along with other foods that Americans don't touch anymore, say, liver. The store is massive. One large section is actually a cafe with a food buffet for eat-in or take out. This is where the one star comes off. There was a good selection of take-away salads in packages, along with pasta, etc but the buffet did not look good. The meatloaf was drying out in the steam table and most stuff looked greasy and unappetizing. Indeed, kids could reach in and snag samples with their fingers. I had to glare down the ones we were shepherding through. But turn your back and they could have been snitching tastes and contaminating the food, so who else had kids who stuck dirty fingers into heated steam trays? Stay away. Over all, I'd do my shopping there if I lived nearby. The prices are good and the selection is excellent. read more

Is it hard to get a Cafe to have good food. It seems anymore that their food is dry and hard. I wanted to try General Tso Chicken but it looked almost as hard as coal. Got curry chicken which lacked flavor and spice. They missed on the Brussel sprout salad and at least made up for it on the dumplings. But come on Wegmans you have done better!! read more

This was the first one in the area, and while its missing some of the features that the newer wegmans have, because of it being open for so long, it is a well oiled machine. I forgive them for the nasty Pad Thai I tried last night from a mix. It wasn't their fault - they just sold it to me. Or I cooked it wrong. So this is what Whole Foods wants to be when it grows up. I could possibly get my point across by listing a few items for sale, or just by piling on superlatives. Doesn't matter. It's got it all - from the incredibly yummy to the very earthy-crunchy. It's frickin huge, with a large center aisle with prepared foods to go that blew my mind. And I can get my creatine and whey there. There was even a train running around a track suspended from the ceiling over one part of the store...very Wanamakers. read more

Now this is what a grocery store is all about. They have anything and everything that you could possibly want. They have a cafe area with plenty of options to choose from (Pizza, Hoagies, Chinese Buffet, Regular Buffet, Sushi, and their own Coffee Shop). They also have a bakery, butcher shop, seafood, and a place that cuts fresh cheese. Recently I was trying to make a custom blend for homemade burgers on the grill. I went to a specialty butcher shop to pick up some of the meats and then blend it a certain way. Long story short, they wouldn't do it for me. I ended up turning to Wegmans to pick up the rest of the ingredients. Long behold that they do custom blends their. I asked one of the butchers and he gladly ground the meet that I had selected in under 5 minutes. Was extremely happy with the service. They also have a beer and wine selection that would impress somebody with a more expensive taste. As for the grocery end of the store, it is also perfect as far as selection goes. They have almost anything you can think of here. If you want to spend the money and get high end things to keep in your house, they have it. They also have the cheaper non-name brand products too. If you need to pick up some things to help you cook such as spatulas, pots, and pans they have all that too. They also have a great organic selection of foods and meats that help provide a healthy meal. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is that the Downingtown location has outgrown its current location. Parking can be a nightmare and the store is always slam packed. I have only been to one other Wegmans location and it wasn't nearly as crowded because of how they have everything set up. I am hoping that with the completion of construction of a similar type of grocery store in the area that it will alleviate some of the traffic from this Wegmans location. read more

But on certain Friday's they have the loudest live music in the eating area, can't hear any conversations with those sitting directly across from me. Lived in Rochester, NY for 3 years just to move to having this store as my nearest Wegmans and it's an absolute travesty. None of the cashiers are properly trained to place your groceries into your cart after scanning and bagging them. Having had to frequent this store in recent days and weeks, I must say that I am still highly disappointed. The prices for the Buffet Foods area has gone by 50 cents a pound, making it $9.49 total a pound, which is absolutely ridiculous. There's nothing great about it. The food isn't even that great. The steam tables don't keep the food hot. You put it in your container (which you pay for), pay for it, and it's gone mostly cold. Some of the stuff is way too salty. They don't patrol the area and I've seen kids pull stuff out, then drop it back in. Goodness only knows where their hands have been. The $1.59 plus cost of the soda in the cafe is ridiculous, especially since they charge $1.00 for a refill. You paid the initial price. They charge you way enough for the food. They can't give you a free refill in the cafe? Dumb. And the employees, who run register in the cafe area? OMG. The teenagers are, meh, ok when they aren't talking to their co-workers, but some of the older ladies seem to have the worst attitudes, especially for people in customer service. I know it's tough with the heat and A/C, their backs and feet hurt, but hey, it's a job. You'd think b they'd wanna be better representatives of the company. read more

I have been a Wegman's fan since I first went into one in Upstate NY years ago. I am excited that they have moved south into the Philadelphia area as I think it has forced some of the other regular supermarkets to up their game and the high end Whole Food types to adjust their prices to be more in line with perceived value. Blah Blah Blah great store. The one thing I always felt came up short was the in-store prepped food, salad bar, Chinese, coffee, pizza, that is until yesterday. So I am still not a fan of the salad bar, Chinese or coffee, but the pizza has been stepped up big time, from a rubber-y no taste triangle to nice crisp thin crust slice of delicious-ness. Note: My daughter and I had the white pizza so no comment on the regular pie, but all the crusts appear to be the thin crisp style and that's how they advertise it. read more

I thought I was too spoiled by city-places like Whole Foods to get excited about a suburban supermarket, but Wegman's (or "The Weg") has become one of my favorite places to shop or just hang out. The selection is impeccable (three cheese counters!) and the decor is pleasant and classy, but unlike WF or Trader Joe's, the Weg manages to also be the most affordable supermarket in town. It's almost unfair how good the prices are sometimes. I spend a lot of time in the market cafe when I need to get extra work done, and I've found the Asian Wokery to be quite good for a per-pound buffet. I can usually get a good amount of seafood for under five dollars, though the Indian food is less than stellar. But I can't talk about Wegman's without mentioning the fantastic beer selection, everything from European rarities to a whole aisle of local Pennsylvania crafts. The prices are occasionally slightly more than they should be, and sometimes a bit arbitrary (ten bucks for Newcastle?!), but before this section opened last year it was impossible to get any good beer in this town without going to a distributor. read more

Awesome grocery store and much recommended. A rare 5-star because it offers a great selection, nice staff, you can buy beer (rare in PA), 24 - hour operation, and great produce. I typically stick to fresh produce and fish - and a mix pack of beer - and Wegman's is the only place in the suburbs I can go to that offers everything in a one stop shop with the highest quality. The store brands are solid, meat/fish/produce are all top notch, and you can find a lot of stuff here that is non-existent other places. I thought of taking a star away because the place is typically packed to maximum capacity and the parking lot can be a minefield of mini-vans, but I can't fault the place for being good. read more

This store has so much. They have a Chinese food bar, a lot of sushi, a huge candy aisle, and foods from around the world, like Japanese and Chinese kinds of packaged foods. This is the only major food store where they have such a wide variety of unique foods... But my obvious complaint is that it's overly crowded to a disturbing point. NEVER go in on a Friday or a weekend. It's so crowded, you will have problems getting finished shopping quickly, and there are so many people and kids inside, it feels claustrophobic. I've been a convert ever since i started shopping at wegmans in college (they have one in state college, pa, YAY!). So once i moved back to philly area i was disappointed there weren't any. So once in a while i'll make a special trip to downingtown just so i can bask in the greatness that is wegmans. Of course im also waiting w. bated breath for the one to open on 202 in valley forge. So excited! Now, if you've never been you're thinking, "it's a grocery store, get a grip". Well you know what? Go to one, check it out and tell me it's like your usual market cuz it's NOT. Don't forget to get a wegmans card, like most other ones it's free and you get good deals. Some things are higher priced than others but their quality is always high. Faves? there are so many...but to name a few... *Tiramisu: so d*mn good. I just want to eat the whole thing and NOT share...comes in 2 sizes but beware...it's delicious with huge chocolate shavings. *Chocolate cake: they have small ones that look single sized but can easily be share amongst 2-4 people if you're nice and want to cut calories. It's super chocolaty delicious. *Cheese section: i am now in heaven. so many choices, so many imports...all so YUMMY. plus it's usually next to the olive bar (mmm) and they have pate too (double MMM) *Buttertop wheat bread: absolute favorite sandwich bread, they're sold out a lot of the time but if you can get yourself a loaf, do so. *Cheese bread: omg...bread that has cheese mixed/melted in. It's crusted with it and when you cut into it there's cheese everywhere. Toast this up and OMG. Cheesy bread heaven. *Wegman's Mango soda: different, not too sweet. And when on sale? 69 cents for a 2 liter bottle. *International section: choices for all different countries and pretty authentic ones too *Meat section: i love getting steak here. You can either get it from the counter or they have them vacuum packed. *Beer section: yup that's right. A market in PA that sells BEER! haha Lots of choices and the prices arent bad. You can grab a six pack or even single bottles depending on the brand. *Market Cafe: if you dont feel like cooking or are just hungry they have sushi, pizza, sandwiches, wings, chinese food, salad bar, soups, and all kinds of other goodies. I've been going to the wegmans since it has been open. Been here for everything from getting prescription drugs to buying their 14 inch subs. Hey guys! You can buy wine by the glass here! I'm new to the West Chester area and accustomed to very inflexible liquor laws in NJ. Any by inflexible, I mean when I'm at the Wegmans in Cherry Hill or Mt. Laurel, I must suffer through a cafe meal without a glass of vino. This location is pretty awesome. It has all the standards you'll find at any Wegmans -- the bakery, awesome food bars, and incredible prepared foods in the deli area. This location seems to be larger than the two Wegmans in south Jersey. The service is pretty consistent with what you'd expect from the company. This review started off while I wanted to review dinner at home... We had a kick ass fresh tortilla soup, and articoke spinach enchiladas with verde sause... I thought where did we get these great ingredients. the fresh pobloanos, tomatoes, spinach, galic... while wheat tortillas, and a good goya salsa verde. Where did we go? It has everything you would need including organic, vegetarian, exotic, etc. Even wifi and a café and a bakery and a little coffee spot. The list goes on. Wegmans in Downingtown for lunch? Yes now. I never realized how much food Wegmans has in their Cafe area. Pizza! They sell it by the slice, or whole. We got slices for lunch and they were large and great tasting. Staff is super friendly and quick. Wifi good. Prices are good for whole pizzas as the large cheese is the same price as the medium!?!
