The place was packed with an electric atmosphere - we caught the World Baseball Classic, college football, Flyers hockey, and golf all at once. Talk about a sports lover's paradise! The absolute highlight? Irish dancers performing in the restaurant! What a fantastic surprise from the management team - truly made the experience special and memorable. The service was top-notch from start to finish. We started with two very attentive bartenders, and by 4:30 PM they had ramped up to at least four bartenders working the bar. These folks were pouring drafts and mixing cocktails with serious speed and flair - think Tom Cruise in "Cocktail"! Even with the crowd, they took great care of us. And the food? We've been going regularly to PJs. It's got no nonsense food and decent service in a sporty bar environment. I don't know if I am going back after tonight. I ordered the firehouse chili which I have ordered multiple times before. I got a cup of lukewarm meat, no liquid. That's not chili. I asked for the French onion soup. My family was nearly done with dinner before it arrived and there were multiple onion skins in it. This is sad. Don't send out clearly unacceptable food. You are losing a weekly customer if something doesn't change. read more

Came for the happy hour, but what really made the night stand out was my bartender, Callie. Midway through happy hour, a disruptive group started altering the vibe of the entire restaurant. Callie handled the situation flawlessly. She professionally but firmly cut them off from ordering more alcohol, completely shifting the atmosphere back to the relaxed, welcoming environment you'd expect. What impressed me most was her ability to manage that tension while never letting her service drop for the rest of her customers. Even while ensuring that group transitioned out of the restaurant smoothly, she maintained great attention to detail and made sure my experience (and everyone else's at the bar) didn't skip a beat. Sat at the bar with an open tab and the bar tenders were terrible. The drinks were so weak (a simple vodka and soda was nothing but soda) and they did not stay on top of things. Nice? Yes. But good bartenders? Absolutely not. read more

Went here on an evening visit with my friend, we were greeted and seated, and the crew was able to accommodate our request to take a booth when they showed a table. We started with drinks and then ordered wings with Korean BBQ, veggie Nacho cheese, and pickle fries for appetizers as my friend is a vegetarian !! The appetizers both veg and non veg were made good and enjoyed it. The drinks were perfect, and then we were checked at regular intervals for food and drinks. We also ordered a veggie burger and wanted to make it as half for each of us, and they did a fantastic job in giving that. All in all, it was a fantastic experience and we will visit this location again!! It's worth the try !!! read more

I have been coming for months to watch the Phillies game with a client with special needs. He can't eat so he enjoys coffee . The past several months he was able to get coffee with free refills . Solid spot. The famous fries are excellent, rest of the food was just average in my opinion. (Burger and cheesesteak). We needed a non alcoholic beer option and they had several available which was nice. Great selection of local and craft beers on tap. Servers were attentive and friendly as well. Here for a party...the host ordered over 1400 worth of food which was good..but the attitude of the 2 women working the bar area was unacceptable ...I think because there tips are included in the bill these young people could care less cause there getting paid either way. And I know the host would of given them a big tip regardless because that's how he is . These girls tonight had me annoyed and I dont get like that. 3 years ago my family and i went here after a busy day and we just wanted to get dinner and go home. It was a cold winter night and they sat us outside with the tiniest bit of heating. We ordered our food, and the food came after 45 minuets. Everyone got their food besides me. So i had to tell the server she forgot my food and she said they never made it. So after 30 minutes, when everyone was done, the server finally came out with my food, but before it reached our table, the waiter dropped it right in front of me. We got dinner at 7 and we left around 9 ish. I would NEVER go here again. Save your self a few bucks and go somewhere cheaper and faster. read more

I had high hopes, but the experience was disappointing. While the food seemed like it was supposed to be made to order, the burger was dry and not hot, making it feel like it had been sitting for a while. The fries were salty but also not hot, which was underwhelming. On top of that, the pricing felt excessive--$65 for two entrées, a kids' meal, fries, and wings is far too much for the quality provided. At that price, I'd expect everything to be freshly cooked and served hot. Wouldn't recommend based on this visit. read more

Had some time in the mid afternoon, so I stopped in at Whelihans. Ordered the mild wings and a beer. Beer was cold, wings were tasty and the sauce was tangy. All good. Our server was attentive and made sure we had what we needed. Reasonably priced. I'll be back. Solid 4-star! read more

I've come here a few times with a coworker recently and every time has been a decent experience. She loves the garlic parm wings, breaded. I love the mild wings, naked. And they have a decent beer selection but she always does Stella and I drink Guinness. The most recent lunch, another coworker joined. She had the Tito's blackberry vodka lemonade and it was really good. My boss and I have also split a blt a few times and that's also been good. We usually have good service as well! On 10/27/2024 my wife and I went into PJ Whelihan's, Downingtown, for a late afternoon lunch. The music was way louder than I had ever heard it there before. It sounded as loud as it would be in a night club! So I asked the hostess if I am the only one asking for it to be turned down. She said others had complained as well. Nice place with a large covered patio and dog friendly area with picnic tables with umbrellas in a grove-like setting. Staff is very friendly and service was excellent. The crab dip appetizer was good but could use more seasoning. The pita chips warm and crispy but a little buttery oil and salt and pepper would have helped. Fried Brussels sprouts were excellent. Not greasy, and came with a mild Buffalo wing sauce. Crab fries were very good. Nicely seasoned and also not greasy. Burgers were very good, although agin could use a little more seasoning on the meat. Philly cheesesteak was the one disappointment. If you are in the Philly area you have to be able to make a decent cheesesteak or don't put it on the menu. Very dry and barely any cheese. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This is my neighborhood bar/restaurant. Ever since it opened I have dropped in every week or 10 days. Being "elderly", widowed and talkative, I consider this my Country Club. I feel entirely safe and I enjoy sitting at the bar talking with people The food is great and reasonable, especially the BLT. I am the idiot who orders the healthy thing regardless of the menu, and PJ's did NOT disappoint. Got the simple two grilled chicken breasts with rice and broccoli and they were freaking killer! Attended an event for a friend here today who is battling cancer. They have a program here that gives back 15% to the event. In this case the 15 % will go to help cover expenses for s good person. The service for this event which had about a hundred people was very friendly and efficient. Drink orders were quickly taken and the drinks arrived promptly. They had some really good beers on special for $4. The on tap selection here is nicely rounded. The food was good standard fare. My Ruben was well made and tasty. The French dip sandwich had some fatty meat which I had to put aside and there was only a small amount of gravy provided on the side. The pretzel bites were made well but the cheese dip was too firm. So this is probably the best sports viewing place around. Plenty of TVs, plenty of seating. When we first arrived we were seated in a poor area to watch, right under the big screen, uhhh no please move us. They did find a better area to seat us, good. Their house beer Copper lager is pretty good! Better than expected. The service was friendly and fine. The food is what gives the chain a solid 3, it could be better. So goes the experience with most of the chains. Had chicken caesar salad meh have had better the chicken was tough. Also had crab cake sandwich, not a very big crab cake, like I said it could be so.much better. But since most folks are here for the bar and sports I guess they dont really care. Right off the bat we didn't see our waitress often enough. We got our appetizer from a different waitress and finished it a few minutes before our waitress came back to take our order, and that was the norm. There were huge gaps in time where we just didn't see our waitress at all, which was annoying, but made more annoying by the number of people at the hostess counter. When we left there were 3 people up there and another was walking back that direction. It doesn't matter how fast you can seat people if the service is slow. The food was pretty subpar. The fries were beyond salty and the cheese sauce had almost no flavor at all. The wicked chicken sandwich just didn't click at all. Too much bread and too crunchy for the amount of ingredients on it. The first thing I had to do when I got it was to reposition the chicken to cover all the bread so I wasn't taking big bites of just bread. The turkey burger was decent, but the side salad my fiancé got to go with it was wilted and just not good. The pretzel bites app we got was okay. The bites were delish, but the cheese had the same issue of having almost no flavor. We ended up getting this brownie bomb thing for desert, and part of the reason I got it was I wanted caramel. Well right off the bat the caramel sauce listed in the ingredients wasn't there. The warm cookie was underneath the whipped cream which resulted in warm whipped cream and a not so warm cookie, and the ice cream at the bottom was absolutely frigid. And I know what you're thinking, it's ice cream, but I mean it was practically sub zero and a really jarring temperature change. This is my first time here but I've been to several other PJs and they've all been awesome! A very enjoyable experience this afternoon having lunch with friends. Three of us ordered Grilled Cheese but were informed shortly thereafter that they were out of American Cheese! Joe, the Manager immediately sent someone out to procure some but not in time for us. We placed new orders with a smiling Grace jumping into action and we had meals quickly! I was in town visiting and decided to try this place. I ordered the grilled chicken breasts w/ jasmine rice and broccoli. The chicken breasts were both very thin, under seasoned, and dry. I thought the juice from the chicken breast would help season or give flavor to the unseasoned broccoli and rice but there was no juices left. I told my waitress that I couldn't eat it and tried the lightly dusted hot wings, extra crispy. The wings came out so fast that I knew they weren't cooked the way I requested. The skin was flaccid on some of the wings. Just horrible! To add insult to injury, they still charged us for the chicken breast meal that I didn't even eat. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

Verdict: Interesting place to watch a game. About average as sports bars go but a better beer selection than most. You can get all the food and beer you could ever want here while enjoying a game. They even have giant beers for the table to share. You don't have to share but you would want to like up a ride home in advance. I liked how this place has more than your mass marketed beers on tap. They have those too but the other options are welcome. Nothing too special on the food side but I was satisfied. The turkey bowl special was nicely done. It had just the right amount of everything you'd want in a Thanksgiving-like meal. The sweet potato fry basket was much larger than I'd anticipated. I was hoping to just get the type of fry side that comes with a sandwich. I guess that's on me for not being more specific with my order. I still ate them all. We had a full game to watch and they disappear like you're eating popcorn. Plenty of televisions so you're likely to have a view of whatever game you want to watch. The sound system is done well too.
