A beautifully preserved historic theater from 1926, conveniently located in downtown and surrounded by shops and restaurants. This was my first visit, and the classic décor immediately set the tone for a charming experience. The venue is small enough that every seat feels close to the stage. From the mezzanine, we had an excellent view and clear sound. The sold-out matinee of The Nutcracker was wonderfully performed and well choreographed, especially impressive in a more intimate space. Seats were comfortable, though legroom is a bit tight--but manageable for a two-hour show with intermission. A side exit conveniently connects to a nearby parking garage, which was a nice surprise. I'd happily return for future performances and gladly spend more time exploring the downtown area. read more

We made last minute reservations to go and see A Christmas Carol! The show was amazing! Our entire family loved the play and everyone working at the theater was so helpful and friendly. We've never had a bad experience at this theater and the inside of it is absolutely beautiful! We got last minute tickets, so we were seated near the back, but we still were able to see everything very well! Loved the experience! read more

The Weinberg Center's new place across the street, New Spire Stages, is the perfect place to see a smaller show. It was totally sold out but didn't feel too crowded. Instead, it felt like community coming together to enjoy an evening of music. The staff were warm and helpful. We'll definitely return! read more

My oldest niece had a show here. It was my first time in an Arts Center up around this way. I kinda had to rush in the for show, so I didn't get to explore too much of it before running to the auditorium. It's HUGE... and during the show it was pretty dark. We found our seats though and got to it. The audio was fine and we had a great view of the stage! I suppose I don't go to that many art centers, but the fact that they had a bar stood out to me. Reasonably priced too! The line was a little long, but that's always expected during intermission. I don't know if there's another bathroom somewhere in the Center, but if there's not... be prepared to wait. Those lines get crazy -- especially the women's bathroom. It's far from where I am and I have to time it around shows, but I wouldn't mind seeing some other stuff there if I'm in the area. read more

I felt so fortunate to be able to see Toad the Wet Sprocket last night at the Weinberg theater. I had back left orchestra tickets and had a great view considering how far back I was. I didn't know there was a bar either and so many people ushering and helping. It's such a cute venue and both Megan Slankard and Toad sounded amazing. It's so cool to have this right downtown. Staff is so nice too. What a fun time to get together with the community and just have a great time. read more

A great local restaurant lace to catch acts that seem more suited to places like DC or B-Murder. We caught Red Green here. Dispute being right at the back of the balcony we enjoyed ourselves. They also seem to lure more obstruct performers like Laverne Cox. Which is not someone you expect to perform in a mostly rural city. It's a very comfortable place to watch a show, sets are comfortable with plenty of leg room, and you don't feel like you're all crammed in as close as possible to the benefit of the theatre's bottom line. Looking forward to going back here when another act that meets my eye comes to town. read more

This is really a two part review. The theater itself, attached parking garage, and staff are all worthy of 5 stars. However, seats in the balcony are useless. The problem is the slope of the balcony is not sufficient to see over the heads of the people sitting in front of you. At 5'6", I could not see over the guy's head TWO rows in front of me. His head completely blocked my view of the stage, as well as the bottom third of the video screen ABOVE the stage. My wife at 5'2", could not see anything. I feel that this should be disclosed on the theater's website. We drove 4 hours for this show and would not have come if we could not see the stage. The staff was fantastic though. We brought this matter to the attention of the staff during intermission and were promptly seated in the fourth row for the final 15 minutes of the show. I'd like to thank Dottie for going above and beyond to salvage our evening. read more

Went for a BSO concert and it was absolutely beautiful and romantic. :D I suggest it for a date or special occasion. Go ahead and dress up! It's not the biggest of theaters but it's still got a lot of class, and that old theatre feeling. It's also in downtown Frederick where all the hip and intimate late night cocktail places like the tasting place or cafe nola are located.... le sigh~* read more

4.5 is for everything they have to offer. Starting w/ the adjacent parking deck to the building. Next, the 20's deco, restyled, come see us remodel of the exterior. We move onto, or in to the greeting area, which is a space where a group could slip on by w/out notice.(Sarcasm) The cramped gathering area, w/a bar, is quite close, yet there is still style present, which gives an opportunity for conversation. The restroom issue must be planned ahead of time for all, ass it is small, & can become crowded. Enter into the seating areas, & the restoration efforts looks amazing. The sound resonance, either from the balcony, or the floor seats are nearly equal. Frederick has a viable, sustainable pool of talent. They bring in national names, act's, & gifted entertainers. The downtown district can never expand. Be assured, the town will, along w/ the population. read more

Beautiful old building in downtown Frederick, with nice modern updates. Staff was above and beyond helpful and friendly, and made sure I had accessible seating (in power wheelchair with ventilator) and also where I could enjoy the show (I have both vision and hearing impairment). The tickets were well-priced and the show we enjoyed (Mandolin Orange) was a top-notch evening of music. The venue acoustics were great. It was a bit cold with a bit of draft off and on, but it was also cold outside. The building has many options nearby (most in charming old historic buildings as well) for a stop at a pub or coffee shop or restaurant nearby, before and/or after a show. I look forward to the opportunity to attend another event here. read more

While on a recent visit to Frederick, I had the good fortune of having my eye catch the marquis outside of the theater, advertising for a free, prescreening of Ken Burns, "National Parks" series. Immediately upon entering the theater on the night of the screening, I was quickly transcended back in time, to when a "theater," really meant a theater. The lobby was very pretty. So well kept, for a building that you could tell, had stood for decades. All of the volunteers were very friendly, and Ranger's from the area state parks had set up their booths in the lobby, to promote their own personal parks. If anyone has ever visited the Fox Theater in Atlanta or Radio City Music Hall, this theater would be the equivalent of the "little sister," to these theaters. Whether you are passing through Frederick, new to the area, or have been in the area for a long time, this theater is a "must see." There are several adorable restaurants in the area if you wanted to have dinner before hand (which I did). Parking is typically available, along the street. The theater has a full dock of upcoming events throughout the winter/fall, both local and national acts. There were also several programs offered for families. read more

I can understand the historical significance of the theatre, but I would assume that those paying $$ to come here are responsible enough to not pour their wine on the seats and ruin the upholstery. I would have enjoyed drinking a beverage whilst seeing Paula Poundstone. Especially since the show was over 2 hours long. I probably won't come back here again due to the 'no beverages allowed', as well as how cramped I felt (the rows lack leg room and I'm only 5'6"). Not as enjoyable as it could have been. read more

Have been here before but this last time was just creepy. Something wrong with management. Typical: two ticket takers at the door - but only one taking tickets while a long line cues. In the auditorium, before the show - there were ushers in the isles eying the audience like they were security bouncers. Er, have we been having trouble with our audiences? By the time the night was done, I swore I would not come back to this place - its clear they must have had some problems, and now management made this an unpleasant experience. I have said this before about poor experiences: If you treat your customers like your worst customer; then the only customers you will get are your worst customers. read more

Went again to watch a Flying Dog presentation o Ghostbusters for Halloween. They had $4 beers as well as mixed drinks at the bar and ppl were dressed up in some fun costumes. It was a fun alternative to staying at home. $7/ticket. $4/beer. Watching an old classic on a big screen was a blast. The audience also cheered and booed at parts of the film making it very casual and fun. Only down side was that their popcorn was super salty! read more

Today we went to see Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol and I personally have seen this same show 4 times before. I always live it. The cast is always dressed for the times and prepared to bring a real old London vibe to the theater. Today the audio went out a few different times starting with the opening act of Tiny Tim singing. The bar service needs work if I could give a separate review just for that i would give 3 stars. I waited at the bar with nobody in front of me for 10 minutes did one drink. People who came up on my left were greeted and servers by one person while the one on my side seemed to be pre occupied with other duties. Not that they don't need to be done but service should always come first or at least a greeting to let me know someone will be with me in a minute. That didn't happen. I do like the Weinberg, I hope service will improve on the next visit. read more

This is a nicely renovated old vaudeville theater with a balcony section. It is not the most comfortable seating and while they serve beer and wine in the lobby, they don't let you take it to your seat. But we have enjoyed live performances, silent films with a nearly one-of-a-kind organ accompaniment, and guest speakers. If you park in the garage next door, the side exits go directly into the garage. This is nice on a raining night. read more

This is a fantastic theater with a large variety of performances to suit everyone. There are lots of family/children friendly shows and the prices are a range to fit just about anybody. Tons of restaurants within walking distance. Cheap & easy parking (attached garage). Their website is very user friendly. My first time here was for a children's play- Clifford. I was pleasantly surprised at the theatre- it's older and ornate, but has been kept up, and they are doing some renovations as well. It was well-staffed with attendents, who were all very helpful. And the play itself was great for kids. My daughter felt so special going to see a real play, in such a special theatre. For my part, I liked the $2 concessions and the fact that they served alcohol in the lobby :) I also appreciated the very reasonable parking garage right behind the theatre on Court Street... although the line to get out after the show was a little long. We have tickets for another children's show in January, we're looking forward to it! read more

I drove in from Pittsburgh for a Del McCoury Band show at the Weinberg on April 15, 2016. Garage parking was nearby and simple (and cheap!), the theater was easy to find, the neighborhood was fabulous. The Weinberg staff was pleasant, it was easy to have my ticket scanned and get in the door, and they kept the bar lines rolling. You can't bring your drink into the theater seating area. After working in a historic symphony hall for years, I'm used to it. I completely understand why theaters do this and respect their choice to preserve the interior of the hall. I can, however, see where you may be caught off guard if you show up, buy a drink and then can't get into the show with it. I was seated in the third row (center) of the balcony and the sound in that location of the hall was amazing. Not all "concert" venues sound good. This one has it right. And, don't forget to make a small donation if you enjoy a show here. Fees are usually charged by the ticketing company and ticket prices usually only cover a small percentage of the operating costs for beautiful venues like this one. Round your ticket price up to the nearest $10 or give anything you can ... Every little bit helps keep their doors open and gives you the ability to see more great performances! Come prepared ... bars are cash only! I hope to be back to a show here again soon. Thanks for a great night of amazing music! read more

We saw a concert at the Weinberg Center this weekend. It is a good place to see a show, though very small. Not much "dancing room" if you ar the type who like to stand and dance during a show. It is a very old theater having hosted Joan Crawford, Bridget Bardot and others of the era. Having never been to the area before we planned to leave early and have dinner there. It didn't seem like there was much in the way of fine dining in this area of Frederick. read more

Came here for a comedy show (Bill Burr). Definitely a nicely decorated theater in Frederick. Everything went well, though I wish we could have taken beverages in to enjoy the show with. In addition, it was a cold evening, but there was something wrong with the heat. It got really hot and stuffy about halfway through the show and remained that way. I have attended a number of shows here and never had any issues until the Eddie Izzard show in February 2018. This was the first time I have been seated in the mezzanine. Usually this is one of my favorite places to sit, but I would avoid it at this theater in the future. We were sitting in the middle section, row C. It was uncomfortably hot during the entire show. Unfortunately, a large couple with enormous heads were sitting in front of my husband and me and we could not see the stage at all without me leaning far to the left and my husband leaning out into the aisle during the entire show. The seats do not seem to be angled up enough. I will definitely attend shows here in the future, but will sit in the orchestra section. The women's restroom looks as if it has been recently renovated and is very nice. read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid, I've even performed here on quite a few occasions. Its a great place to see live shows and I'm a big fan of the classic movies they show. On Halloween the bring out the old Wurlitzer organ and play along to the silent version of Phantom of the Opera. Its a great night out and great prices for entertainment. But the chairs are atrocious. They are all broken and falling apart and so uncomfortable it requires two stars being taken away. If those are ever fixed, we have a fiver! read more

The box office area under the bright sign that shows who's performing has a really nice & welcoming feel. It's a small street in a small neighborhod... bright lights catch A LOT of attention here. Arrived early for a sold-out 8pm show (Esperanza Spalding) last Friday. There had to be a couple hundred people waiting inside the entryway, even spilling out onto the sidewalk... 8:15 rolls around..doors still closed.Will call tickets weren't available at the box office. read more

We recently attended a private wedding reception at the Weinberg Center for the Arts. Frederick was hopping on a Saturday night, who knew? But we had allowed plenty of time, so even after sitting through the same traffic light a few times and dodging pedestrians, we weren't late. The parking garage is just around the corner from the Center, but when you leave if you can use the exit to the right of the stage you go directly into the garage and don't even have to step outside. From what I understand the Center was recently renovated and everything did look lovely and the seating was very comfortable. Since we didn't see a live concert, I can't comment too much on the sound system but for the wedding and the DJ it seemed fine, so it doesn't seem like it wouldn't work well for a live performance. I don't know if it was because of the wedding caterer or their standard service, but the cash bar prices were very reasonable. It was a really pretty theater, not huge but comfortable and I think it would be a really nice place to take in a concert or movie. read more

A good friend had her police academy graduation here. The AC was broken, and had been 10 days before the ceremony. Is the city so cheap it can't afford to fix the AC for the ceremony of these brave men and women? How about a bake sale? There were a lot of senior citizens in that 80+ degree heat and some had to leave early. The refreshments afterwards, punch and cardboard cake, were pathetic. Frederick, you should be ashamed for the way you treated these officers. read more

I love this beautiful theater. I've been there several times and enjoyed the intimate vintage beauty of the venue. I found the ushers and ticket personnel to be joyful helpful and enjoying their job. I drive from King George VA to enjoy this treasure. Wishing we had such a gem closer but am happy to commute!!! This place is beautiful starting with the old ticket kiosk out front. But the ushers make or break a theater experience. They were totally flummoxed by the fact that there were people in my seat, and tried to seat us instead in someone else's seats. The ushers didn't take side seats, but sat in front of me, and then jumped up and down for each late arrival. They seated them without waiting for seating breaks. This show was sketch comedy, so there were seating breaks every few minutes but they directed late arrivals to seats including ones far in the rows, forcing patrons to jump up and down to let them in, in the middle of sketches. And of course, there were people using their cell phones during the show and they did nothing about them. read more

beautiful place, nice lighting and acoustics, but you can't drink inside the theatre, can't stand up, can't dance, can't yell "wooo!" or generally enjoy the music at all. went to see Bela fleck and were enjoying the show until older man in uniform told us to quiet down and sit down. my friend who is Filipino and dark skinned got ignored at the bar, 3 white folk stepped in front of him and got served right away. paid $7.50 for a shot of vodka when it was sub-par vodka and costs $15 a freakin bottle. fun is not allowed at this venue so if you want to have fun avoid it at all costs!! only old stuffy rich white people allowed! otherwise gtfo! and someone complains about having your cell phone out during the show? get over it. you're probably one of the many that leaves during or before the encore. are you here for the music or to dress up and act like you're classy? I'm here to enjoy a great band and guess what, that's not allowed! oh and white folk might get away with a holler here and there but don't have brown skin! they'll spot you right away and tell you to quiet the eff down!
