Accidentally wandered into the market next door (oops), but found my way over to Weiss real quick. I wandered around looking for a bottle of bubbly to pop for my friend's birthday, and like a sign from Bacchus, Ricardo came through from the back. Super knowledgeable of all the sparkling wines and champagnes, and helped me pick out a nice chilled bottle that fit my (low) budget. I was only visiting Nashville, but this liquor store is by far the friendliest and most helpful one I've been to! Area may be a little sketchy, but I'd be back in a heartbeat. read more

I was in town for a few days to visit a buddy of mine. The nightlife was not really up and running due to COVID-19 so we decided to get a bottle of Crown and some groceries. The groceries I found, but the liquor at 10pm on a Saturday was harder . I went to TWO places that SAID they were open online but were NOT, including Sinkers. First off, this is not 'the 'hood.' This is Edgefield. There's a hot yoga place, Edley's and Fat Bottom brewery across the street. Behind Weiss is The Crying Wolf, East Park and large, expensive homes. If you think this is scary, please, don't spend any time in cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, or New York. You might not make it out alive. #cityliving For those of you with sense, you'll see that Weiss is a go-to neighborhood liquor store. While the beer selection isn't the best I've ever seen (but with two breweries, The Filling Station, Edley's, and another largish liquor store within spitting distance, does it need to be?), WL gains many many points by allowing patrons to make their own six packs! It's a big deal, folks. And, it seems like something that's pretty easy to do. Why more places make things harder than they have to be... I dunno. The ability to make a standalone 6-pack is worthy of four stars. The nice employees, decent pricing and good (relative to the store's size and function as a neighborhood go-to) selection adds to the awesomeness. The categories are clearly labeled, if you can't find what you're looking for, someone's eager to help find it or a good substitution and you're shopping local on an old-school level -- the joint's been around since the '30s. Not just the shadiest liquor store I've ever been to, but probably one of the shadiest places that I've ever been to, hands down. Weiss has really friendly employees, and is stocked with wine and hard liquors and plenty of let's say 'interesting folks' hanging around outside. My boy doesn't like me going there alone, let's just put it that way. My only regret is that they didn't carry Goo Goo cluster (they had other candy), but the clerk actually recommended Kroger's for that purchase. Amazingly....he was right! read more

We were definitely drawn to Weiss by the old-fashioned signage. This place is bizarre in that spirits and beer are in two different buildings. Don't go in to the building closer to the street expecting to find beer... because it's in the back building! I'm not sure if that's a weird construction error or some kind of Tennessee law... but it's weird and slightly inconvenient if you need to buy both. Otherwise, selection is quite large. Since beer is housed in its own building there's a ton of room for a lot of different beer. Since we're not beer snobs, we just went right to the cooler section with the classic domestics like Coors and Miller Lite. Classic. Parking is tight, especially if there's a run on liquor at any given moment. There's like... eight spaces in the parking lot for both buildings. They sell cigs, which is convenient, but I'm not sure if that's true for both buildings or just the beer one. This place is basically just a decent liquor store, which is fine. read more

Weiss may look super sketch on the outside...but it's not their fault! I mean when you're the closest liquor store to the 'jects you're gonna get some interesting patrons. But, (bonus!) if you are lamenting that construction workers are getting too prudish with their catcalls lately, fear not! 30 seconds in the Weiss parking lot will having you feeling like your old desirable self once more. HOWEVER, my man Ricardo behind the counter who runs the place with his wife is affiliated with the Nashville police so he's got this place on lock. He's even got a badge, so it's legit. Speaking of Ricardo, you could not find a friendlier guy. He has SO many recommendations and remembers all of your likes and dislikes for next time. The wine selection is totally bangin. And all of his favorite wines (which are the best) are on sale every time. You'll see some swankier wine shops in this area but I'm telling you, at Weiss you'll get 10x the service, half the price and NONE of the Hipster Elite 'tude. Liquor selection - great. Beer selection - comparable to a Kroger selection in the beer building. Hint: if you go into the liquor/wine building they have more of the nicer beers to select from! read more

Ahh, a great place for character observation, if you need book material hang out in the cluster---k that is Weiss Carpark, never a dull momento but watch your fender, its a jigsaw puzzle getting out. Monsieur Weiss certainly might not have the largest stock in town but he has always been a couple dollars or more cheaper on like for like items than anywhere else, who can forget his 39.99 veuve cliquot Xmas special a few years ago, and the fact that the staff always have bottles of our fave stuff chillin' in the fridge. Special requests are always accommodated and will show up a day after the request ...and you dont have to buy a case of it. The staff are the Magnificent 7 and the villagers respect and admire them. read more

They pretty much know who their customers are, they usually greet me as soon as I walk in the store and head to the back where the sweet wines are hidden away. Even though I don't look 19, they still ask me for ID.. It's the law, whether you're a Sr. Citizen or not. People sure do love to dog on the area where Weiss is located. "Do not go there after dark" and such. Well I don't know which liquor stores you hang out at past midnight, but I wouldn't exactly recommend that anywhere. Sure, the East Side down closer to the river isn't the cleanest area in town, but it's genuinely not that bad. In fact, the staff at Weiss is made up of some of the nicer folks you'll ever come across. They sell very inexpensive wines and have a pretty standard selection of liquor, and the counter guy (at least the one I always see when I'm there) is always wiling to help. There's a lot of talk about the half-off discount bin, and, while I'm not much of a wine man, it certainly always looks like a good deal to me. Weiss also offers several of the little impulse bottles at the registers, and those always get me. Who can resist a tiny bottle of Jager or Jose Cuervo? Ok, most people probably can. This liquor store is definitely in the hood and you get a very different clientele in Weiss's than you do in just about any other place in town. Once you get over that though, the wine selection is actually pretty decent (if you are not looking for any rare expensive vintages.) They also have some incredible deals if you know where to look. They had a bottle of Australian wine that sells for $8 everywhere else in town on sale for $4 for almost three months. It was not fantastic, but for $4 dollars it was great. The also have a half price bin of wines that they are discontinuing in the corner by the register. It can be very hit or miss, but I have lucked out and got a couple of good wines that I never would have tried otherwise. read more

This is one of the cheapest (in a great way) liquor stores in town. You can usually find stuff here for several dollars cheaper than anywhere else. They are a little on the small side, so you're selection is limited, but they have a great inventory and there's a good mix of quality in the brands they offer. They had more wine than I would've expected a lot of which at amazingly low prices (around 10 bucks or less). There's a lot of foot traffic at Weiss and the parking lot can be kind of confusing as there are no actual defined spaces and people tend to park just anywhere. It is a little out of the way, a few blocks outside of 5 points in East Nashville, and it tends to be labeled as a sketchy part of town, but I've never felt unsafe there and everyone is helpful and friendly. When I tell people this is my favorite liquor store in town they usually look at me like I have been smoking something that may have been procured at an alley nearby. I have lived on the Eastside over five years, for the first 1.5 I avoided this place because of my perception. I am glad I took the tip from a friend to go. Some of the friendliest folks, finest selection, and best prices in town. They sell single malt scotches that you cannot find anywhere else in the midstate. I have been going to Weiss for at least 10 years. My favorite wine is 9.99 there and 12.99 at Frugal McDougals. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. It is not a huge store so selection is limited but it is the best priced liquor store in Nashville. I think all the comments about it being shady is a bit much. I was a little hesitant to enter Weiss at first based on the neighborhood, but the charming retro sign and the fact that Main Street Liquors looked way worse lured me in. Inside Weiss is much more inviting than expected. The staff is friendly and helpful. Apparently the owner buys a lot of his liquor in such bulk that the wholesale purchase price changes before reorder. Instead of automatically marking up the in-store prices, however, he maintains them until he has to purchase his supply at the higher price. That means that often you can find liquor at a lower price than other stores that consistently update their retail to reflect wholesale increases. Sometimes in flavored liquor one flavor will be priced differently than another as a result of this practice. read more

I've been a native of Nashville since 1979 and buy serious quantities of wine from Frugals,Midtown and on-line. Although Weiss may not have the space to provide the high end wine selections of their downtown competitors, for the convenience of East Nashville it doesn't get any better. That said, their varieties of scotch are as good as anywhere outside of Craigellachie on the River Spey (well, sort of). As others have commented, the Weiss staff are extremely helpful/friendly, and the owner will special order anything. read more
