I updated this review after the response below from the owner. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in their response to what was originally an "ok", but accurate review. I am very aware what I ordered. It was a Hefeweizen, a pretty popular beer made both in the US and Germany. I have had it from domestic breweries and imported from Germany. I can no longer recommend this place at all if this is how they are going to respond. I don't know how to feel about this place. On one hand, all the food I have had there has been solid, the beer has been lacking. This seems to be a popular place before Opry, but the service is slow. The beer seemed super watery which was surprising. Probably the worst part is that the food and drinks are severely overpriced. I've been to many German restaurants, including ones in theme parks. Not often do I say to skip something - skip this. While I'm not sure what else is nearby, it must be better than this disgusting "German" food that was served. Positives: The decor is cute, the restaurant is spacious, and the server team was lovely. They took time to discuss allergies, offer ideas for our large table, and were continuously refilling the beverages. Not positives: The food is utterly gross. The large pretzel was tolerable and the German potato salad was edible. Neither were good - but able to be eaten. The chicken and the "gravy" were terribly disgusting. No joke, skip it. read more

Definitely more of a tourist attraction. I had the vegetarian Mac n cheese and it was below average. It didn't have much flavor & was very greasy. My had the Rueben. He said it was okay but the mix of flavors was off. I had the red blend wine which was okay and he had an NA beer which was a little sweet. The space is large to host birthday parties. We were going to Grand old Opry and decided on German before hand. We ordered a flamkuchem kind of a flat bread pizza. Pretty good. We had a goulash and onion soup for dinner. The onion soup was very rich beef broth with great flavor. I give it a 9. My wife had the goulash it was also rich, I gave it an 8.25. The Mac and cheese was a bit oily only a 8. Very cool atmosphere but that's where the positives end. Food wasn't good. We started with the potato pancakes and they were too peppery. These would be better with just salt and then add sweetness with applesauce. My wife ordered the Schweinebraten and I ordered the sauerbraten. Honestly couldn't tell the difference between the two. I think they mixed our orders up. The pork on my side late was extremely dry and tasted gross. The German potato salad might have been good if it had been served warm. 2 of my daughters had a side of mashed potatoes and both of them had a dried crust on them like they had been sitting under a warmer for a while. We had a 4 pm reservation so I don't why they weren't fresh. Nothing was good. Extremely disappointed. $144 bill I definitely expected more. Won't be back. read more

Came to Nashville for a Friday night concert at the Ryman Theater and decided to find a German restaurant for lunch. Checking Yelp (of course!) we found the Bavarian Bierhaus, which looked pretty authentic. We drove over to Opry Mills and found it no problem. The ambiance was a legit German Bier Garden! We ordered a couple orders of the German pancakes, and my sister-in-law, who is 100% German, gave them 2 thumbs up. They're tricky to prepare correctly and they nailed it! The entrees came out pretty quickly and I got the Chicken Schnitzel with German pops to salad and the kasespatzel (Mac & cheese), and again, my sister-in-law said it was spot on! BIG portions for sure with my wife got the Brat on a bun and Irma got the Pork Schnitzel. It was an awesome meal and we somehow found the room to try the Black Forest Cake! A definite 5 Star review! While our family loves going here, I fear the only good thing is usually the soft pretzel and beer cheese. The servers are friendly and the atmosphere is always fun (especially during the holidays and live music nights), but the rest of the food is just mid (as the youths say). Quite possibly the worst and rudest service I've ever received. Came in for a quick beer prior to an imax movie. Sat at bar ordered a beer and told bartender that is all we'd be having as we are heading to a movie. She said no problem then disappeared nowhere to be seen for 32 minutes. Asked the hostess to please find her as we needed to leave. She came back and said "it's gonna be a minute she's helping customers in the back." Ummm why is a bartender helping customers in the back with numerous patrons sitting at bar with no service. After another 6 minutes I told hostess we were leaving we couldn't wait any longer at which point she became very rude and said "well I guess I'll just check you out. Not sure why you in such a rush when she's helping other paying customers." Then bartender comes back out a full 40 minutes later and says "oh sorry I've been in the back updating our new menu". Ok who's lying the bartender or the hostess. This is about the moment the hostess slams my receipt and credit back down on table and says "I don't care just bye" as she stormed off. We hadn't been here in a few years. It was fine before. Today it was awful. We get to our seats. Table and benches were sticky as if they had rarely had anything but a damp rag passed over them. Food was on the floor nearby - as in large pieces of food - the entire time we were there. And they sat people right on top of the food without bothering to clean it up. Tables nearby were left with dirty dishes for a long time. They were not busy. It was a Wednesday. Ordered sauerbraten, which I previously had there, which I've made myself, and had at other restaurants. The meat is supposed to be marinated in a sauce for a long time. The meat was bone dry. Falling apart. And not because it was tender. But because the meat fibers were all that was left, like little protein matchsticks. The sauce was a gloopy mess poured on top - maybe thickened with cornstarch - that seemed like brown gravy with some lemon stirred in. Inedible. The sauerkraut was just weird, and not in a good or remotely interesting way. Sad because this used to be the only quarter-way descent restaurant in Opry Mills - which we only go to for a movie or a show at the Opry. Stay away. read more

It is a huge place and we were looking for someplace to eat before going to the Opry with friends. Food is "ok" but not stellar. One person in our group had a Reuben sandwich but gave half to her husband after finding too much fat in her sandwich. The Friday special was fish & chips and while it looked pretty good our friend did not appear too impressed. i had the German version of Mac n Cheese which was pretty tasty but the fried onions on top were hard as rocks. Didn't like the 2 appetizer we ordered. Potatoe cakes were very heavy and dense. The flat bread had no taste. I ordered the pork roast which was very tender, but nothing on it, not even salt. Sauerkraut was so sour and so many caraway seeds that's all you tasted was the seeds. Mashed potatoes so thick and brown color. My husband had the Sausage platter. All 3 meats were good. This place had so many flies flying around us. We had to eat with one hand and swat Flies with the other. Half way through I spotted a fly in my gravy!! Super underwhelming. Spaetzle was mushy (my 3 year old LOVES spaetzle and kept saying he likes mine better-- for reference, I've made it twice ever! I'm not an expert!). My goulash had 4 chunks of meat in it. The beer was fine but wildly overpriced. Same with the pretzel. Halfway through the meal the tvs switched to an adult cartoon and my toddlers couldn't take their eyes off it. Lackluster bierhaus feel. I was disappointed that we asked for mustard with our pretzel and the waitress pointed to the Boarshead on the table. I can buy that brand at target-- figured they'd have something more authentic or made in-house. Just super unimpressed and disappointed. And spent WAY more than we should have. BEER: To cut to the chase, it's the price. I enjoy a good beer but $20 for 1-liter is insanity for something that doesn't taste all that interesting. They offer 2Ls but I can't imagine how expensive that is. FOOD: Appetizer- Rueben spring rolls had hardly any corned beef. The Swiss was there but other than that it's a hollow shell of dense wrapping. Thousand island dressing was ok. Spaetzle- horrid, looks like scrambled eggs tossed in flour. It's should never be this bright yellow, eggy pieces. Gravy/beer cheese- it tastes like straight beer with some salt; overwhelming on the schnitzel. Schnitzel- it's suppose to be a thinly pounded cut of pork with a light breading. It was the total opposite, thick pork may be good for the customer but it's not suppose to be a slab of swine that's heavy on the stomach when you need to finish your cafeteria mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes- I had better in the food hall in university. Seems like frozen and microwaved (probably is). Potato salad: German potato salad is served hot, not cold. SERVER: He has nothing to do with the food or pricing and is attentive and always asked if we had questions. I wasn't going to question him on the food and beer quality and price. He just needed to work and get a paycheck, we tipped him well. OVERALL: As a traveler this was a gut punch to the wallet. We expected our total after our (appetizer, main courses with chosen sides, and 1-liter and 0.5 liter beers) to cost us around $85. It was $102, before tip. What is the best German restaurant I recommend: If you are traveling and happen to stop by Hot Springs, AR. Visit Steinhaus Keller, a true, authentic German restaurant that does justice to Germans. I've been to other German restaurants so we figured we'd do this one a shot. Basically we went inside it. That's what I expected. It was a early dinner so the band was just setting up, which is fine. We ordered our food and the thing we noticed that it came out extremely quickly. I don't like that because that tells me this food has been sitting on a warmer so we got appetizer lukewarm, but tasted good when we ordered our food it literally came out in less than 10 minutes and it was obvious under a heat lamp premade. It was very disappointing. We really should've said something about wanting fresh food, but we couldn't understand why there would be premade food at this large venue, but I guess that's how they do it when I go back to it no. I wasn't sure what I was getting in to when I asked for a brewery that wasn't far off my route but I was pleased with the destination. The Bavarian Bierhaus is styled like a German beer tent at Oktoberfest with long benches, a stage for the usual oom-pah band and lots of waitresses wearing drindls. A menu of pretzels, sausages, potato salad, and the like. Oh, and beer. I ordered a half liter and spent about an hour here as I had a bunch of emails that couldn't wait until later. I did manage to find one of the only power outlets, which is against the wall near the "beer garden" that is just a deck overlooking the parking lot. Service was friendly, the beer was cold, the wifi worked well, and after a bunch of focused emails out, I was good to go. I need to get back for some spaetzle. Authentic German beer hall experience in Nashville. Great selection of German style beers. Furthermore, the food is based on German favorites but I have to say it has been adjusted to American tastes. Some of the sides you will not see at other than German places. The band is lots of fun. Dining is at large community tables. Great for a large group and you may get to meet someone new if they get added to your table. Friendly staff and they keep the food moving. I used to go there all the time. I was so hyped when it first opened. Like many other places prices are out of control. What made me not go back is I ordered the Munich white wurst which by default should come with mustard. They didn't give me any so I asked for mustard. They asked if I wanted one or two types. I said why not I'll take two after it was left off. I was charged like $1.50 per side of mustard. I won't be back after that. I've probably been 20 times but things like that are a no go. read more

The service was amazing!! Chris was attentive and made some great suggestions for our first time. Corey was great too. We had a flight, some salmon, a cheeseburger, and I had a vegetarian Mac with Beyond brats. I love the family style seating. If you don't like sitting with strangers, don't go ruining the vibe (order to go). The bar was hopping and there were cards in the table, so we played with 'em. I would definition here again because the live entertainment was just getting started. But don't sleep in the regular playlist! This is a good spot for the fam, hanging out, or a day with the boo. Fun, fun, fun atmosphere! We came in for a friend's birthday celebration and had a fantastic time! The band made the environment feel very loud, boisterous, and celebratory which is exactly the vibe we were hoping for. Our server Klinton was amazing! Very friendly and attentive. The beer was all really great. We had the Oktoberfest and the Weihenstefaner. Delicious and refreshing! The food is what we have mixed reviews on. Some of it was good and some dishes were not. Pay your staff more and stop gouging the customers. Your food, decor, and service are not exceptional. Get over yourselves. The food in poor and inauthentic at best I recommend out of town folk try McNamara's in Donelson for more genuine Irish fare and reasonly priced Guinness and Jameson. My family and I were visiting Nashville for the week and decided to try the Bavarian Bierhaus. We made a reservation for 6:00 pm and arrived around 5:52 pm. When we arrived the hostess said it would be a 5 minute wait for anyone who came no matter the reservation or not. Then she asked when our reservation was and upon hearing it was for 6:00 she asked us to wait 8 minutes to our time instead of 5 minutes. We asked why the additional time after being told 5 minutes and she did not seem to have an answer. After waiting 15 minutes we went back up to ask about our table and the hostess replied that it was still being prepared and to please be patient. Not a full minute later she screamed our party name when we were 3 feet away. As we were being walked to our table she said "please take our patient guests to their table" After being seated we ordered drinks and our meals. Management gave us a pretzel on the house for our experience with the hostess. We got the pork schnitzel with spaetzle, cucumber salad, German potato salad, and sauerkraut. The spaetzle was way too eggy and the sauerkraut was a little bit pickle-y. The cucumbers and potatoes were good. The schnitzel was teetering on the dry side. For the experience the price was way too high and the service was just alright. I regret to say our experience with the hostess tainted our whole evening unfortunately. read more

A few bites of the Schweinshaxe and my taste buds were teleported back to Soviet-occupied East Germany, although the Berlin Wall probably had more flavor. What makes this place terrible is how their food is as overcooked as it is overpriced. The lamb was so dry it was crusting without any moisture and nearly impossible to cut through. Not even the powdered gravy mix could save it. The Reuben pastrami was tasteless, dry, and stringy to the point it was like chewing wires. My wife had to slather it with sauce. Only reason why they have 2 stars is because the Bavarian Onion Soup was actually good and the pretzel was edible. I'm just pissed off I spent $100 for a meal for two on their garbage.
