Small, but mighty spot to pick up all the goods for a chill evening or wild party, and everything in between. We popped by to scoop up a decent bottle of wine for a gift and were in and out within a few moments. As mentioned, the space is small, but well laid out and well stocked. Service was solid and friendly as well. We were greeted, helped while wondering around and at the register, and wished a good day upon leaving. There are dedicated spots up front, but when those fill up, which they do quickly, there is a pay lot mere feet away. Overall, solid liquor store in convenient location. I went with two bottles of prosecco for my airbnb and enjoyed it throughout my few day stay. All of the store sales associates are accommodating and very helpful and Kim is our absolute favorite. Kim is very knowledgeable with the inventory of wines and spirits. Her great personality is greatly appreciated and makes the shopping experience a joy! Ben has assisted us several times also and he is fantastic. Many of the spirits we enjoy are sold at or close to MSRP at Village Wines, enabling us to purchase more for our growing collection. Customer service was supreme out of this place. It was Friday night and the week after being snowed in. I wanted a margarita. Went in, they didn't have what I wanted. Their shelves were pretty barren. The gentleman who assisted me was super kind, knowledgeable and steered me into a direction that I, otherwise, wouldn't have considered. I found my product, got my fix, and was on my way. Nevertheless, the simple gesture was appreciated and he exceeded customer service expectations as I was talking to him about other products aside from tequila. I asked if they ever get the Michelob organic seltzers signature collection in because they are my absolute favorite & have them back always stalked back home. The store was out of the specific bottle I wanted, so they called and gave me alternatives with detailed descriptions. I really appreciated that they took the time to call and get my permission. A lot of businesses would have just changed the bottle and gotten away with it. Additionally, they delivered the bottle with a nice gift tag and bag. No other business I've ordered from on drizzly has done this. Highly recommend for their great customer service! Do not go here!!! Such rude workers!!! Whoever was working here on 5/14 Saturday morning can kick rocks!!!! Parked my car here (not even directly out front of this store) for maybe 10 mins to run and grab food then get the alcohol from here and in that time my car was called in and towed. Mind you there were like a total of 3 cars in the lot so I wasn't like stealing their customers parking spots.... This wasn't even the part that bothered me.... It was when I was calling the tow company (who were the sweetest people EVER) that this worker came out to basically bitch us out and rub it in our face that called it in saying, "ohhh are you looking for a black Nissan?????" Point to the tow sign "yeah ya can't park here ya could've just asked I would've said yes!!" After I let him know that we were going to get beer there after grabbing food too he just kept saying stuff to us about it like he was sooo happy to have cost me $155 while already on an expensive trip/weekend. What an awesome selection! This is a hidden gem of Hillsboro. Hard to come by craft beer, specialty liquors, and rare wines. I had the chance to visit when I was in Nashville for a girls weekend. First, there was a person eating a burrito at the counter giving unsolicited advice on beverage options. If that wasn't unprofessional enough, the man who was working became irate that our Uber driver (who was kindly waiting for us) asked him to throw out some trash in his store. When I pointed out that while our driver wasn't a patron, but we were (and would not be there without our driver) he switched into a complete condescending, sarcastic jerk to me and my friends. If that isn't enough to steer you away, the prices are high, even with the Kroger coupon. Thankfully the rest of our Nashville experience didn't match this. read more

We were looking to pick up a couple bottles of wine without having to drive to Midtown. We searched on google maps and Village Wines came up within walking distance. This is a small cramped store. We walked in and were just wanting to browse. The guy (who I am assuming is this oh so knowledgeable wine store owner that everyone else gives glowing reviews on) asked if we needed help. We said no, and his reply was "Well I guarantee I'll find what you're looking for faster than you will." Ok dude, relax. So we looked around, and the guy got out of his seat and proceeded to follow us around and was asking questions about what we were looking for, even though we said we didn't need help. We answered a couple of his questions when it looked like he wasn't going to leave us alone. He handed us a bottle and said, "This is what you're looking for." and then left. My companion, the wine drinker, looked at it, walked around a bit, and then decided against his suggestion (she prefers domestic wines, and he had handed her something from another country) and picked something else. The guy then loudly said "That's not what I told you to get!" My companion didn't hear him, but I did. I was about ready to walk out the store. Got to the register, and the guy was like "I can't believe this is what you picked, you're not going to like it, I told you what to get." My companion calmly explained that she was a fan of other things and so he put back his suggestion. He then shouted at her "Don't come back and complain then when you don't like this." Forget it. We left. You don't deserve our money with that awful attitude. Dude, I get that you're a wine expert. Fine, but not everyone (a) wants your suggestions or (b) is going to take them. Your wine store is in a strip mall. You're not the be-all, end-all of wine. I have never been treated so rudely in a store ever. The moment we said we didn't want his help should have been the end of his conversation with us. I'm shocked any people have found this guy to be pleasant. read more

I fear the worst for this little wine store that could. The ominous review, the lack of posts on social media, the phone number that goes to a person and not the store... it's a bummer. The concept of the store was different for Nashville -- wines were grouped by occasion rather than 'type,' eg birthday party, bbq. This lead for an organic wine buying experience that was specifically catered to the event, rather than the type of wine you like (or, think you like). It opened the door to/for experimentation. Plus, the staff was very approachable and knowledgeable. The store was clean, well organized, had a decent craft beer selection as well as stemware, food and other items. Hoyt Hill is, by far, the most knowledgeable wine merchant in the region. To be sure, one wouldn't be wrong to shop at Village Wines for its selection of many hard-to-find wines that are highly sought-after by oenophiles, but ultimately the true joy of developing a relationship with a retailer like Hoyt is the ability to take advantage of his knowledge and training: to trust him! To be frank, however, my husband and I are not exactly neophytes when it comes to wine: we have been geeky about it for ages (we have honed pretty decent palates and he could name the Grand Cru vineyards of the Cote D'Or geographically from memory or explain the Botrytis-ization process of a Sauternes)...but I digress... One of the greatest satisfactions we've learned is to set aside ego when we find someone whose knowledge truly dwarfs our own, and allow them to broaden our horizons with suggestions carefully calibrated to our palates. Hoyt isn't exaggerating when he says that he has tried nearly every wine in the store, and if you allow him to, it is a privilege to have him apply this knowledge and experience to selecting the perfect wine for a given meal, budget, and taste. After years of patronage (and friendship), Hoyt knows our vinous predilections better than we do ourselves. His recommendations are always spot on and frequently inspired. He has given us the opportunity to grow as students of the grape, and we are proud to call him our friend as well as our wine merchant. Great proximity to a lot of restaurants and super walkable for a lot of students. Their prices are reasonable, and there's definitely a decent selection for anyone ballin' on a budget. Not a stellar selection in terms of specific types of liquor and some things can be a tad overpriced but I've never gone without leaving with good options. read more

this "liquor boutique" opened recently (where village wines used to be) in the little strip mall by our apt. we noticed their new sign out front and decided to pop in to check it out. it's definitely a different experience from your average wine shop or liquor store! but i'm still deciding whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, the wines are displayed in a "gallery" type display, which seemed a little pretentious. but then they're are all under $50 (w/ even some $10 options), so not pretentious at all. they have a section where the wines are arranged by occasion ("third date," "girls' night out"), which seemed way too cutesy. but then their wines are supplied by small batch growers from all around the world, which makes my inner wine snob happy. undeniably, the lady we spoke with there was very knowledgeable and friendly. and if you don't know too much about wine and want to pick out a bottle to bring to a dinner party or something like that, this would be a great place to go. they also have hard liquors, craft beers, and a little case w/ gourmet snacks (italian cheeses, pates, olives, etc). read more

If you asked me to design my ideal wine/beer and liquor shop - it would look almost spot on with this store. We walked in and were immediately greeted with a warm hello and a friendly explanation of the shop. For once we didn't have to navigate through narrow walkways piled to the ceiling to browse the selection. The layout was meet much so an open concept with limited inventory on the floor to allow shoppers to easily take in the selections. It felt like walking around a Macy's as a posed to a dollar store. We found many local brews and a great selection of a few unique ones, too. Great experience and I can't wait to try these new brews! read more

This is a wine store - do not go in expecting exceptional variety, prices, or service if you are looking for anything else. That said, Hoyt Hill is really interested in wine and has an eclectic selection, focusing on French wines. He has a very big range on price, from good, drinkable, well selected $8-$12 bottles, to wines in the $100's per bottle. This is the kind of place you have a long term relationship with, because they don't give you the time of day the first several times you are in there! This place is great for picking up something if you're in a hurry and live near by, but that's really it. There's nothing really exceptional about Village Wines, and most of my experiences there have been just mediocre. It's located in a weirdly positioned shopping strip on the outskirts of Hillsboro Village. As their name implies, the store mostly features wine although the do sell a limited variety of liquors. It is often so uncomfortably quiet in this store that I find myself with the urge to whisper. Their employees seem mostly indifferent to your presence, helping if its requested but otherwise generally ignoring you until you're ready to make a purchase. The prices there are pretty comparative to other liquor stores in town but you won't really find any deals here. Their selection seems more extensive than it really is due to their small size. Overall I wouldn't dissuade someone from stopping here, but if you're looking for a selection I'd recommend going to Midtown. read more

It is SUPER unfortunate that this Yelp page still has reviews from the shop's previous two sets of owners. Like another recent reviewer has said, this is pretty much an ideal wine store now! I live nearby and have been in nearly weekly since the ownership change in January. The owners are easily the friendliest and most helpful 'wine people' I've ever come across. There's so much genuine good will towards their customers, without the awkwardness that sometimes comes with asking for help from people much more knowledgable that you are. I feel comfortable getting recommendations at any price point, and talking to these guys has truly helped me hone and expand my tastes and my knowledge of different regions. The selection is excellent, and well-matched to the area: Bota boxes & magnums of rose, great things in the mid-range, and a pricier selection I'm waiting on an occasion to explore. I cannot express how nice it is to go into Village Wines at the end of the week. The store is impeccably stocked, and I love the new owners. We go rather frequently, so we always get to have a nice check-in with our friends that work there. The owner is always offering to bring in new brands and styles of beer and is incredibly helpful. Great wines, great deals, great service and advice, great email updates. With so much wine in the world I need Hoyt Hill. I'm never going to learn it and keep up with it, and I'd rather spend the time in the kitchen and the garage learning other things. Email Hoyt what you're serving, your preferences, and your price range, and it's ready for pick up. I've not opened one bottle that disappointed. I've learned a lot from Hoyt's recommendations (as well as his Wine Academy classes). Hoyt lets you navigate around the frustration of selecting wines based on a label and I'm not going back. For the more experienced who can talk the talk, Hoyt's their guy, too. Hoyt is upfront about the limited liquor selection so his shop may disappoint the warehouse/bargain-store shoppers. Based on a long and happy experience with Village Wines, any unhappy reviews of store attitude might reflect more on the buyer than the seller. But, as Hoyt would say, "that's just my opinion.
