Our family has been with Merryhill, now, for two years beginning with Mrs. Bailey in PreK (such an amazing teacher), Mrs. Zellis in TK (a wonderful teacher who created a family environment in her class while still building academic skills needed for kindergarten), and now with the lovely and strong academic classroom environment that Mrs. Toranzo and her colleague Mrs. Jordan have created this year. In addition the STEM teacher, Mrs. Anderson, and the Spanish teacher are excellent. Finally, Ms. Kimberlee is so welcoming and so supportive of all the parents each day. The hands on approach and unique learning structure offered really seems to have had a positive and lasting impact on my son. He has never wanted to go to school as avidly as he has since enrolling at NVSI. The change in attitude is amazing. I would recommend this school for any child. The cost is also very economical compared to other private schools in the area. GRRRR!…read more I'm guessing if you are reading this, like us, you not only lost beautiful, talented, smiling daughter, but also the expected future all of you were working toward. Yes? We are 1.5 years out from our girl coming home from Red Hawk (RH). I am very comfortable in saying that the difficult decision of sending her to Red Hawk not only saved our daughter's life, but also saved our family. While it has been full of ups and downs, it also keeps getting better and better. Not in obvious ways, but, when we think back to how we all behaved before RH, it is easy to see how far we have come. Its kind of like being away from your infant and noticing just how much they grew. I'm a DIY person, so to put it in terms of saving an old & beautiful home... Red Hawk is the qualified specialty contractor that works with a damaged & crumbling foundation. RH takes the time to figure out the root of the damage, fix the underlying problem, then strengthen and rebuild the foundation. That may seems like a small thing especially given the cost, but think of all the new possibilities that old house can have for a long future... IT IS PRICELESS! Red Hawk doesn't roll back time to give you a "fixed" version of your daughter, BUT, you will likely have to have a daughter that can handle events of the past and move toward building a new and different future. As a parent, can you hope for anything more? Finally, I want to share the most important and hardest things we have learned since our girl came home: 1. Stop grieving for the little girl of the past. She will be hyper-sensitive to your cues. It under-cuts her progress to be reminded of something she can never be again. 2. She did the hard work at RH, now is the parents turn to work hard. Mostly we struggled at changing our knee-jerk reactions, respecting the 'new' person she is and building trust. IT IS HARD, but so very worth it! (The work is not just with your girl, but also with each other, her sibs and extended family...yep. But, it does get easier.) 3. Listen to her when she speaks, recap and ask if what you think she said is what she means. Especially if If you are adding meaning between her words. It is easy to apply a grown-up's understanding and thoughts when she is speaking as a teenager. When I added my interpretation of her words to our conversations, it was eye-opening to see how much better our overall relationship became. 4. She will want to vent her emotions - stay with her the whole time without provoking her. Be patient and somewhat detached so you don't escalate the explosion.. Let her use her words even if they hurt. Once the steam has blown-off, patiently bring her back to have a conversation of what she needs wants or has going on. (Early on it was one of the only times she was honest with her thoughts.) 5. Do not spoon feed her solutions. Let her work for the best outcome for HER, not you. 6. Remove the word "just" from your vocabulary. Think about a sentence when its used, I bet 9 out of 10 times it implies her efforts are worthless and make her feel like she is a failure. (I learned the hard way when she spat the words back at me while blowing-off a head of steam.) Going back to the "old House" analogy: We have the foundation repaired. The structure is being fixed or replaced, and now we are working together on a better flow to the floorplan. Its hard living in a construction project, but all of us look forward to the picking wall colors & furniture! We are forever grateful to everyone at Red Hawk!

My daughter has just returned after a year stay at Red Hawk Academy and I wanted to write this…read morereview to share my family's experience with other parents who are considering making the painful decision to send their child away. I can't begin to describe the transformation my daughter has gone through following her stay at Red Hawk. Like many teens at Red Hawk, she suffered from a multitude of psychological disorders including drug/alcohol abuse. We tried all the inpatient treatment and outpatient programs our insurance provided but she never got better and was increasingly getting worse. We knew we had to do something drastic to protect her from herself. After a lot of online research and reading all the reviews I was able to scour online, I decided to come and visit Red Hawk which is a locked teen residential facility for girls in Arizona with a maximum of 24 students. It was important for me to find a place that did not have a high population, and one that was not short term. It also offered an online schooling program called Edgenuity that is a platform that home schools kids use and the credits obtained would transfer easily to her school upon her return. Red Hawk has a handbook which they give out to the parents once they enroll explaining their program and philosophy. You should take the time to read it while visiting the school. I think of Red Hawk in terms of a military academy because of its strict rules and promotion/demotion style of governing. This regimented structure contributed greatly to the success of rehabilitating my daughter. The difference, however, between Red Hawk and a military academy, is that there is genuine love and compassion from the owners and their guidance is reflected among the staff. In acknowledgment, I would like to thank Valerie for teaching my daughter the coping skills to manage her life and for us to communicate effectively as a family through therapy, Thank you Sonny for teaching my daughter life skills that she would never had pursued at home like construction or car maintenance. The girls actually get paid and earn "Sonny" money which they can spend throughout their stay or given to them upon their return home. Thank you Mel for teaching my daughter to ride horses and for your love and support. Thank you Candy Val for your guidance and advice during drug counseling therapy. Thank you Junior for teaching my daughter to cook some amazing dishes and lastly thank you Anita and Dr. Joyce for your all your help in shaping my daughter into the person that she is today. During the last few months of her stay, my daughter earned the privilege of being a mentor, and as her mentee lamented that this was the 12th program she was sent to, my daughter advised her that if she put in the work, this will be her LAST one. This daycare resembles a correctional facility more than a nurturing place!! Sure there is an adult in the room but kids just do yard time around the room. You get a photo of activity but I dare u to stop by at random times and u see no one in doing anything educational. In short 4 months where our toddler attended here less than 3days a week, we have experienced the following 1. Multiple occasions I picked her up with dried stool in her diaper. Once she ended up with UTI 2. They say diapers are changed every 2 hours but based on how often they ask us for replacement and Procare timelines that doesn't seem to be at all accurate 3. I have seen kids get yelled at. Our toddler is terrified of going in 4. In one occasion that I know of a kid gained access to a broom handle and hit another kid on the head. 5. We have picked up our kid with soaked cloths in 40 degree temp . No one knew how long she was sitting in wet cloths and why she wasn't changed 6. We picked her once wearing just a T shirt with no pants in 40 degree temp another time. Excuse was that she doesn't have any other clothing. They found 2 when we asked them to look in her cubby !? No one bothered to look ?! 7 room smells like dirty diaper at 7 AM and 5 pm regardless of when u go in . If u do a tour plz open the door and smell for I wouldn't recommend anyone to leave their kids here ! Negative reviews are 110% accurate !! Front office and maybe a couple teachers are nice but the rest just don't seem to care

However the school has some serious help and safety issues. In the short my child was there I witnessed children eating paper clips, mass puddles on the floor that to well over 10 minute before they noticed (I had to inform), my child continued smelling like poop and pee when being picked up, and her being the sickest she every been since she was born. The staff would leave the noses of the children dirty and let their snot run down their faces. Although there was quite a few staff members I liked the turn around for staff members is quite high. My child constantly has new or different staff/ teacher in her class and the change was never communicated with the parents. Communication in general was lacking and when I would bring up a complaint the follow through was mediocre at best. The management implemented huge changes, ie requiring uniform while most families where on break and with such short notice less that 2 weeks.The play ground equipment has multiple broken pieces (which may have been just wear and tear) however within a month of my child starting I had to pay a "Yearly supply fee" that's was supposed to go to playground equipment. This was on top of the registration free and the weekly tuition. At this time my child had only been attending for 25 days. I would caution letting you child attend as they recently record 26 health violations for the southern Nevada health district (SNHD) and license have been changed to provi
