When we got the letter from the CCSD magnet program that our child was accepted I called and said I wanted her to go to Mabel Hoggard. They said since I didn't apply on time (to Mabel Hoggard) then it was too late and we couldn't get into the school even though we are zoned for it. # 1 We didn't apply at all. Our private kindergarten school applied on our behalf because they have some deal with Jo Mackey to get all the kids a seat even though it is supposed to be a lottery system. #2 When I found out in January that we got into Jo Mackey and Gilbert Elementary I contacted Mabel Hoggard right away. I can't believe they were unable to do anything to allow my daughter to switch magnet schools when they are required to save 25% of the seats for students zoned for that school. Now my daughter is at a subpar school (Jo Mackey with the principal, Kamela Washington, that doesn't give a damn about the students). The CCSD magnet program is corrupt just like everything else in the public school system here.

From our very first tour with Ms. Brenda, we knew this school checked all the boxes we were looking for. She was reading words at just 3 years old, and the nurturing, structured environment helped her grow in so many ways. Any concerns we had during preschool were addressed promptly, and we always felt confident she was in great hands. However, our experience changed significantly once she transitioned into kindergarten. While the curriculum remains strong and academically focused, the environment felt much more rigid and less joyful. It is very one size fits all. We absolutely value education, but we also want our child to enjoy being a kid--through fun, creativity, and play. Another challenge has been the limited communication. Most interaction is restricted to quick exchanges at drop-off or pick-up, and calls are typically returned when the staff is available. There's little feedback unless you personally call and ask, so it's hard to know how your child is progressing until report cards are sent out. At times, important day-to-day situations involving our daughter weren't communicated to us. Lastly, we didn't always feel the school environment, particularly the front office, was the most welcoming. On a few occasions, I had to initiate conversations after being overlooked which left us feeling more like a number than part of a school community. Overall, the preschool experience was outstanding and gave our daughter a strong academic and social foundation. We're incredibly thankful for that time. My child's kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Margolis, was phenomenal. She was upbeat, professional, engaging, and it was obvious she genuinely cared about the students and loved teaching. Unfortunately, things have steadily gone downhill since then. First grade did not meet the expectations I had hoped for, but I never imagined the experience would decline this much. Mrs. Brown is honestly the worst teacher I have ever encountered. She has a very flat affect, lacks engagement with the students, and struggles to teach material in a way children can actually understand and retain. My child has consistently been an honor roll student, so this is not an issue of capability or effort. What has been equally disappointing is the lack of support from administration. The headmaster, Mrs. Johnson, is not approachable and appears completely uninterested in parent concerns or feedback. Attempts to communicate issues feel dismissed rather than addressed. It is incredibly disheartening to watch a school that once felt nurturing and academically strong become such a frustrating experience for both students and parents.

The focus they put on leadership and self-governing is something I wish I had learned growing up. My brother struggled in regular school to the point we weren't sure if he could keep up here. However within the school year he was actually excelling, not because the school is easy, but because he had a true support system. His teacher would work one on one with him and gave him extra assignments that would help him get the concepts in a way he could understand and practice. It was a lot of work for my brother, but to finally be on A honor roll was priceless! I knew I wouldn't want my daughter to go anywhere else after seeing my brothers transformation. They focus on true principles and helping the students learn for themselves and enjoy the process. We love this school and feel so lucky to have found them! We also love the new campus!

It is amazing to see how far this school has come. I feel that the skills I learned from attending this school from 2nd grade through middle school have carried with me until this day. My reading and writing skills are strong and this school truly prepared me for college. As an adult now, I read quite often for fun. This academy truly focuses on a classical education, which is not a focus in public schools today. Scholars learn cursive and multiplication/division starting in second grade. These skills stay with them for the remainder of their schooling. This academy does a nice job focusing on building the skills they've learned brick by brick each school year. Now as an adult, I hope to send my own children here one day so that they can experience the same type of educational experience I had in my childhood. American Heritage Academy has a warm, friendly feeling the moment you walk in. Scholars are beyond excited to come in each day and see their classmates and teachers. It is a school that is rigorous, but students look forward to coming each day because of the special, nurturing environment this school provides. It was slightly frustrating, but once in, it's a wonderful place. Teachers are incredible and kind, communicative and supportive. I've decided that the idea of a successful education is all about the cooperation and coordination and commitment of parents and teachers. Communication is key and knowing the difference between academia and childcare is key. Doral is not the latter. It requires input and involvement. When this is done well, I feel like the kids win. Administration is bomb. Teachers are first-rate. The facilities are great, despite its smaller footprint. Love this school.

The teachers worked very closely with my son and also provided him with a math tutoring for 2 years at no additional cost. He ended up graduating a year early!! He loved his time at the school, lots of adventure, great teachers and good friends. He is now enjoying a year off before starting College in 2025. My daughter has been attending since 1st grade and is now a freshman (9th grade) she has held a 4.0 GPA, she loves going to school and is really enjoying her electives, she is taking ELA and Literature. She was elected Student President 2 years in a row! She really loves her teacher, the one on one help she gets as well as the smaller class sizes that allow her to get more time with the teachers and she has full access to additional tutoring in any subject she needs. She came to the house to tutor my son with math/reading and help with homework. Everything was fine, until the tutor stopped coming in March, without any explanation. When I called management, Stephen told me that Maria was having personal issues and wouldn't be tutoring my son anymore. Then he went into the details of her private personal issues with me over the phone. He promised to find a new tutor, but said she had a higher fee since she had a Master's Degree. We only had 5 sessions left, and I didn't want to spend anymore money, plus I was really turned off by the way management was handling the situation. Stephen promised to come tutor himself, but never showed, didn't call or text. When I asked for a refund for my last 5 sessions, I got no response. I'm taking this up with the credit card company. Look elsewhere for tutoring services, this place is terrible.
