Tim came by to pitch tune and service my Great Grandmother's piano at our family lake house. I will start by saying this piano hadn't been serviced since my grandmother passed (so probably 10+ years and 1 move.) We had 9 "dead keys" as I called them that were permanently pressed down. B/c we don't live permanently in the house and we have no real piano players in the family its only played 10-15 hours a year (much less since the keys started going out 3 years ago). I have never called a piano servicing/tuning company before b/c I was afraid it would cost a fortune to service this 60+ year old piano and for the low utility we get out of it... It just wasn't going to be worth it. Then enters Tim... Not only did Tim tune and repair the piano, but he also showed me how to fix and replace the plastic elbows that were causing the keys to die. He explained that the plastic they used back then can grow brittle over the years and have the tenancy to break over time. He left several replacements for me to use should one break in the future. He said it would save me from having to call a service man the next time one breaks! In under 2 hours he had finished everything. Tim, shows a tremendous amount of passion for what he does. I really liked the guy. I spoke with him for about 45 minutes while he was servicing the piano and learned he is the company founder and owner. You can tell his business has a bright future ahead of it. He said he's slowly expanding his business beyond Charlotte to become the go-to service for piano repair throughout the Carolina's and beyond. He teaches and speaks in annual conventions and seminars about growing and expanding piano servicing businesses. I had no idea such a thing even existed, but it's wonderful to hear someone talk so passionately about their industry and their business. My only regret was not calling Tim 4 years ago. The piano sounds great and I'm now thinking of hiring a piano player for my engagement party I'm hosting this fall to play our freshly tuned piano! There aren't enough superlatives to describe our experience with Tim and Barnes Piano. We moved to Charlotte last January with a 35-year-old player piano that had been moved several time and kept in storage for awhile. It was tuned last year by someone else and didn't hold the tune. It sounded just awful! It wasn't cheap, but like I said, they are completely upfront about their pricing for their various services - right on their website, actually, which is a really great resource. Barnes Piano Service was professional from the minute I bought their Angie's List coupon for piano tuning. I quickly received an e-mail describing the company, their services, and was asked to schedule an appointment. I have an older piano that hadn't been played (other than kids banging) or tuned in over 8 years. Tim inspected the piano and was very honest and upfront about what it needed and the costs involved. He worked quickly and made sure the job was completed and I was satisfied before leaving. He even made time to explain to me and my kids about how the piano works. We had a great experience with Barnes Piano. We scheduled Tim to tune our piano. He was very thorough in examining our piano. Although our piano is relatively new to us, it is an older piano. Tim was able to explain what was going on within our piano in a way that I could understand, pianos are pretty complicated instruments. Turns out the piano wasn't out of tune, but had another issue. Tim did a great job of explaining the issue and options for correction. I received a very good education on the inter workings of pianos. Barnes Piano was very professional. Bought a piano tuning deal from Angie's List, from Barnes Piano. Just met Tim, who thoroughly assessed my piano and then took the time to explain exactly what was wrong, how and IF it was fixable. He not only explained the issues, but demonstrated to me just exactly what he was talking about. As this instrument was given to me free of charge and is played rarely (and only by non-pros), I was able to opt out of the repairs. I very much enjoyed speaking with Tim and felt he was extremely honest and knowledgsble in his trade. When I purchased my NEW Yamaha P2, I decided to stick with Well Loved Piano to service my piano needs, because of past satisfaction.
