Best dental office in Chicago! I have been a patient for 20 years and always happy.

My apologies for not updating my almost ten year old review. During that time I've been in his dental chair dozens of times, from cleanings and xrays to crowns and implants, and continue to think he's the best there is. How convinced am I? We've moved to Maui, but still get our dental work done by Dr. Weller in Chicago. I have complete confidence in him and his recommendations. His staff - Tina, Jamie, and everyone else, are 100% professional. I happened to run across the Weller Dental business page today and noticed the mixed reviews, so I figured I'd share my personal experience. Approximately 12 years ago I had the fortunate opportunity to have some dental work done by Dr. Weller. As a teenager, I had bonding done on my top front teeth to cover up blemishes resulting from tetracycline medicine I received as a child. Fast forward many years later, the bonding had yellowed, and the only option was to have my teeth rebonded, or have a more permanent crown application. I decided to go with crowns...in fact six porcelain crowns to be exact. I'll be honest, I was nervous. But, Dr. Weller and his team put me at ease and the process took a couple of visits for all the magic to happen. In my particular situation the bonding had to be sanded off before they could scale down my teeth for the crowns, so it was long process, and at times a little grueling, but I didn't feel any pain until the minor recovery process with sore gums. It all seemed very straight forward, and I felt like I was one of his only patients, even though I wasn't. My gums were sore for only about a week after. Having my teeth done changed my life. I used to smile with my mouth closed, and now I have a happy proud open mouth smile, and I get compliments all the time about my teeth and how completely natural they look. I never, for one second, thought of Dr. Weller as a regular dentist and only a cosmetic one, so I'm not sure if he claims to be one. I don't remember having my teeth cleaned before the process or teeth checked for cavities. That wasn't a part of my treatment. Though I was encouraged at times to take advantage of additional treatment options, I declined but felt like he really just wanted me to have the best smile possible. To this day, my teeth still look fabulous, the work was top quality, and my crowns are holding up beautifully. read more

I like fancy teeth, so I go to Dr. Weller. In my life I have had so many dentists and so many bad Dentist experiences - until I started going to Dr. Weller. I have been visiting Dr. Weller for the past five years and in that time, I have only had ONE major dental issue, a partial overlay on a molar. One of my molars had decayed so badly that I was on the verge of needing a crown. He was able to do the partial overlay, save my tooth and my tooth has been problem free for over four years. I get my teeth cleaned 4X a year (because I love it!) and I don't mind paying for it. I don't know what other offices charge, and I know Weller is more expensive, but I cannot imagine that it is that much more? I pay $95 for teeth cleaning, I spend no more than $800 annually with Weller - how much do you spend on going to dinner? Or your gym membership? Are your teeth not worth that? Mine certainly are. I adore my hygenist, she is the best. The one thing about Weller is that he is a big fan on Veneers - he believes in them. He will more than likely suggest them to you. You can always say "no" just as I have for five years now - even though I know I need them :( Final word: Clean, beautiful office, great staff (Tina and Jamie), great hygenist, great dentist. a++ care. On the pricey side but one of the best dentists in the city - and that is according to other dentists too. In reference to Jeffrey Weller reply : 1: If the work completed was done to improve my dental health why half of a tooth was left with decay ??As a matter of fact I did went to get a second opinion because I was suspicious of a diagnosis. Below is a picture taken my new dentist ,tooth number 14 ,half of it left unrevised with decay on it. Dr Weller did a filling only on the half of the tooth number 14 , and paid for that half 340$ .He left the other half of the tooth unrevised (or probably he thought I don't have a decay on the other half and didn't need work done).My new dentist explain that I would have needed a root canal later on if we don't take care of it immediately. We took care of it right away as you can see in the image. PROOF OF DOCTOR WELLER NEGLIGENCE ! 2:When I called the office I asked if is possible to put on my Dental insurance the fillings on the teeth 2 and 3 ,fillings that I paid in advanced and didn't got work done yet. 3:I did called Dr Weller dishonest when he hang up the phone in my face when I asked what is going to happen with my credit I have at his office for my crown since he was the one canceling my case and saying that I'm not their patient any longer I was expecting the credit to be refunded. 4:What are the false words I'm using ??They are the rudest people ,as other patients confirmed here on Yelp.Plus the quality of his work does not reflected the price as well. Note :When I emailed the office the picture taken my new dentist and let them know that I had decay on the same tooth the doctor worked on half only (probably he didn't though I needed the other half as well) and my new dentist said I would have needed a rooth canal later on ,their response was: ,,stop emailing us Bianca you are harassing our office ...So please stop you're emails to our office we do not wish to communicate with you as your words are not true and keep making false allegations about our work'' Are you kidding me ?? I was trying to let them know my feedback ,first email i send them to please send me the list of services i had received at their office ,then i email them the picture with tooth number 14 the other half work done by my new dentist.Do not go to this office period ,they are plenty of good dentists in Chicago.Hope this will help others to not go through this nightmare i had to go through.Good luck ! read more

He provides a warm, inviting atmosphere for what is one of the unpleasant necessities in life - visiting the dentist. The first visit for a regular cleaning was fine, albeit expensive, but having moved from Ohio, I thought the pricing was normal for the city (it's not, he's overpriced). The second visit to repair a cavity was a nightmare. My dentist should listen to me. When I went in for a regular cleaning, I brought my chart from my old dentist and noted that I do not respond to some anesthetics and he needed to look in my chart to double check before ever administering any injections. He refused to believe me and got angry. THE MOST PAINFUL dental experience of my life. Mind you, I've had a couple dental procedures before, bc I grind my teeth, including a root canal, which were less painful than this cavity repair. He injected me so many times, left the room to "let me set up" and retirned to inject me FOUR different times. Even after I asked him to please check my records and told him I wasn't getting numb, he still drilled. I will never go back. Best part, I saw him in a socialite magazine a few months later while in the car with a local Realtor and pointed him out (didn't mention the story). She laughed and said he was known for "running around the city". In the end, the cavity was repaired but he filled it too high do now my bite is out of alignment. I've been going to Dr. Weller for a few years now and he's fantastic! I trust Dr. Weller completely with my dental health. You can talk to him about any concern (for me: gum grafting, orthodontics, cosmetic) and know that you're getting the best care and advice, whether he performs the work himself or refers you to a specialist that he trusts. Hands down, the most professional, talented and informative dentist! I began going to Dr. Weller when I moved to Chicago about 12 years ago. While working in beauty industry, I was referred by many of his very satisfied, high profile and attractive patients raving that he was "the best"... And I must agree! His office is like a spa & the staff are extremly welcoming as you sip your lemon water or coffee that's graciously provided. You are never waitng long as he doesn't over book clients & he takes time to answer questions in his kind and cheerful manner. The parking lot is also conveniently attached to the his office building, which I love. Over the years Dr. Weller has transformed my teeth from very pretty to perfection! I cannot stop smiling! His work is superior. I had all the metal fillings replaced (which has helped my migraines become less chronic), invisalign & most recently some porcelein veneers on my upper teeth (as a teen, my orthodontist over-filed them too straight across). After moving to Chicago from Manhattan, I needed a Dr, and Weller came highly regarded. The first appointment was great, after that I really don't know what to say. I asked the office if they were in network with my insurance, I was told "Yes we accept all insurance" They accept all insurance, but are not in network with any insurance company. I didn't mind paying a little extra, for not much was needed. As time went on, more and more work "needed" to be done, and of course, that was not covered by insurance. This Dentist will try and sell veneers to a dog with no teeth, and they lay it on thick. If they think you have money to spend, watch out!!! Jeff had a better than thou attitude, and often times, does not listen to what his patients actually want. The kicker for me was the cost of a treatment plan. Like I said, I was referred to Jeff by a friend of mine. My friend and I both "needed" the same work done to our teeth, we both had copies of our treatment plans (drafted days apart from each other) that had everything on it. EVERYTHING WAS THE SAME, yet my treatment was $1500 more (Not good Jeff) In the time of being a patient of Jeff, I've seen him yell at staff, he and his sister jaime always argue , and I've even seen his wife Tina come in the office drunk. If he doesn't want to deal with you, he'll send in Pitt Bull Tina to try and milk money outta you. You're not paying for good work, you're paying for his family to take extravagant vacations, build new homes, and be seen all over Chicago. Splitting my time between Chicago and Milwaukee, I was able to find another Dr, that is actually caring, listens to patients, and does great work. If you're looking for a dentist that cares, and wants what's best for you as a patient, go elsewhere. If you're looking to be a cash cow for this man and his family. Oh, and be mindful, I was using the restroom, in the office, and there were 2 cockroaches in there. NOT GOOD, NOT GOOD AT ALL!!!!! read more

Absolutely love this dentist! After moving to Chicago a year ago, this has been the only place I've tried in the city and I don't plan on ever leaving. The place is extremely clean and welcoming. Everyone is nice and Dr. Weller does a great job explaining different options and trying to figure out the best plan for each individual. I would honestly state that this is a small family business run by Dr. Weller, and not a health care provider office. Strongly sales-focussed, and probably the most expensive dentist office in Chicago, and without concerns about his patients wellbeing. After paying Dr. Weller almost $30 000 for bottom (only) veneers, I am left with a couple small gaps between gums and veneers. The gaps, of course, do not look appealing, fill up with food, and cause discomfort. I disliked the veneers during the initial installation, and wanted to send them back to the lab for some improvements. With angry attitude Dr. Weller threatened that he and the lab will "raise the price" if I do that. Further, during exams, he ignored my complains and concerns. My very last meeting with Dr. Weller caused me to not feel good about myself for a week... He was not only not able to suppress his rude and dismissive approach, but he went even further, accusing me of "not taking good care of my teeth"!?! Dr. Weller's wife, aka secretary took approximately about 20 pictures of my new veneers, and when I asked for some pictures, she sent just two blurry ones, claiming that they "did not save the rest". I will restrain myself of making comments on professionalism right now... Lastly,a month or two ago I sent an email, and made a few phone calls asking Dr. Weller to replace/repair the unsatisfactory veneers, but did not hear back from him. Thinking what my next step should be? Any advice? I am editing my review, because I forgot to mention a very disturbing fact. In his efforts to install the bottom veneers Dr. Weller drilled (shaved) down some of my top veneers. Less then a year after that one of the drilled and damaged by Dr. Weller veneers started to break, and he is refusing to replace it, because "it was made by someone else". So, now I am "enjoining" a chipped front veneer, and chipped smile, of course. Thank you, Dr. Weller! and please, do not let this happen in your practice again! read more

I first visited Dr. Weller three years ago when I had a problem that needed to be assesed prior to going overseas to a "third world" country the next day. He had never seen me before, but was kind enough to stay late since I could not postpone my business trip. In short, Dr. Weller provided a solution that "tied me over" until I could come back to finish the process. I decided to get my mouth back in order after consulting with Dr. Weller even though I hated visiting dentists. He provided a solution whereby I was able to take care of everything over a year and now visit for cleanings. My time is valuable and have never waited more than five minutes for my appointment. He is extremely good at what he does with no B.S., but a pleasure to talk with whereby I feel comfortable and relaxed... His staff is similar to the front desk at the Penninsula - focussed, friendly, don't waste your time and are there for what you need. I wanted veneers and interviewed several dentists in Chicago. All had stellar reputations i cosmetic dentistry. However, none were able to understand and/or deliver what i wanted or envisioned. Finally, I was introduced to Dr. Weller and his exceptional staff. Most dentists are taught there are formulas for the size and shape of teeth, more scientific and less artistic. I am quite picky about my teeth, both condition and appearance. I take great pride in them and expect the Dentist I choose to respect that and care for them as much as I do. I moved to Chicago 6.5 years ago from South Florida. SInce my move, I am having a difficult time finding a dentist in Chicago who takes as much pride in their work, and their practice, as they do their ego. Dr. Weller claims to be an outstanding dentist. My multiple experiences with him were far less than 'outstanding.' In fact, Dr. Weller was rude, condescending, and not even remotely interested in what I, 'the paying patient' wanted. With such a narcissistic attitude, I am surprised he has any patients at all. The only redeeming thing about his office was one of the dental hygienists. She did such an excellent job, I actually went back every 3 months for my cleanings (despite his dismissive behavior towards me during my exams), until this last visit when Dr. Weller learned I had bonding done somewhere else (which he refused to do as he insisted I needed veneers) and he decided to send me a letter firing me. This is a review not based on the quality of Dr. Weller's work, nor on the hygienists Jessica and Jen who are amazing. I can say, wholeheartedly, that without Dr. Weller I would have had some serious dental problems by now. In fact, I did when I went to him initially (and after a horrible dental experience) and he was amazing. However...... This review is based solely on the salesmanship, up selling and pricing of Gold Coast Dental/Weller Dental Aesthetic and Implant Center. For the past year they have been selling their patients names on to a "points" style program causing me to get snail mail, email and all sorts of spam hawking this program. I have asked to be taken off the sell list and have not been. I have also begun to question the amount of suggested work. As I mentioned, I have been going to Dr. Weller as my dentist for 15 years and do believe in the quality of his work. On my last visit he "determined" I needed expensive work done, which would amount to almost 10k. As I go in every four months it seems surprising that in such a short period of time almost all the fillings in my mouth had disintegrated so badly in such a short period of time and the disintegration had not been noticed before hand. Either they were not being vigilant over the past year, or they were wanting to cash in on my previous "never question the dentist who saved your teeth" mentality. The veneer pushing is out of hand too. I feel veneers often look fake and too perfect. If that is the look you are going for or are needing veneers go for it. If you, like me, do not, you have said you do not want veneers again and again, and have healthy, straight (or straight-ish), white teeth then Dr. Weller needs to back off. I understand the profit margin is high on veneers, but I am not a profit margin. I have since gone to another great dentist who has recommended some of the same work, and indicated much could wait at least a year as there were no cracks or disintegration. Furthermore, the pricing (and I did know Dr. Weller was pricier than other doctors and was more than willing to pay a pre,iu,) was between 25-50% less for the same work. I was shocked. Additionally, a discount for cash was offered. I asked and asked at Dr. Weller's office and I was never given one even though I always paid in full and with cash. I feel used and disgusted at the financial mentality of this office...how to get as much out of our patients as possible. There are many good dentists in Chicago (you just have to look for them) and Dr. Weller is not a dental demi-god who can charge exorbitant fees for his work. read more

I became a patient of Dr. Weller 3 years ago and have to say that the level of professionalism, personal attention to patient concerns and results are amazing. After deciding to invest in a brighter smile, I interviewed four cosmetic dentists in Chicago and did a lot of research to make sure I was basing my assessment of each dentist's capabilities on the appropriate criteria. At the conclusion of my search, I was relatively comfortable with the qualifications of three, but confident about only one. Dr. Weller was fantastic. He listened carefully to understand what was important to me. He explained everything and added an important dimension to my understanding of the desired outcome - the dental health benefits, as well as the cosmetic improvement. My bite is now realigned, my teeth are bright but natural, my smile is...well, judge for yourself. I would not have otherwise posted a picture to my profile, but this is the best way I know to offer proof. Dr. W's team of professionals is wonderful. I used to love this place and highly recommend it . Not anymore... I am still young and don't need much stuff done, dr. Weller recommended some work, I explained him I wasn't ready for anything major since I am happy with my smile, he was ok with it. The cleanings were done beautifully by Jennifer and I was happy...up until my last cleaning session when after getting in the chair they started taking x-rays to check for problems !!! ( I am sitting there with my mouth full, totally uncomfortable at the news and thinking to myself "again ? I just had x-rays 6 months ago" plus if they had the decency to maybe get my ok they would have found out I don't want x-rays every 6 months since they are not healthy ). The big surprise came in the end when the wanted to charge me $ 100 for them( hence I have insurance) so with the cleaning my bill came out to be $ 198 ??? Very upseting, their attitude about it was very condescending and imposing ( as in "too late, you should have said something before" ) So then I wonder when ? When my mouth was full and was totally not informed this is optional and comes at extra charge ? Or maybe I should not trust the dentist before I get on the chair and call the insurance company to verify everything before they just do work they think they can get away with.
