Dr. Tahbaz is the best dentist in Chicago, and Renee at the front desk is efficient and organized.

Before the appointment, Seida repeatedly assured me the office would submit a pre-estimate to insurance and only charge me my patient responsibility amount. After multiple calls with my insurance company, it was discovered Brighter Dental had been faxing the paperwork to the wrong number. The issue was finally corrected during a conference call with insurance and the office. Despite the pre-estimate being approved before my appointment, I was told by Seida and Luca that I had to pay the full amount upfront or they would not proceed. Seida claimed no memory of the aforementioned conference call, and I had no choice but to pay or remain untreated and in pain. At my follow-up appointment, insurance had already paid the claim electronically, but the office delayed reimbursing the overpayment and gave conflicting timelines for a refund. They also refused to refund the original credit card and insisted on mailing a check instead. After repeated vague promises and no reimbursement, I was forced to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Due to their refusal to honor the insurance allowed amounts, I overpaid by several hundred dollars. I later received a threatening letter accusing me of fraud because of the charge dispute, even though the office had still not refunded the overpayment at the time of the dispute. This was a disturbing experience.

He also is very personable and reassuring which is a big plus since I used to get nervous going to dental appointments. His staff is great too. You can tell by my review that I highly recommend Dr. Flak and his staff. I feel fortunate to have Dr. Flak as my dentist and I highly recommend him to all of my friends.

But on my last three visits I have noticed a change. None of the original hygienists are there anymore. The two that I have had in the last few visits were not friendly, and on my most recent visit two weeks ago the hygienist was very abrupt and I told her to be gentler when she was doing the flossing but she just brushed it off. Every single time in the last 20 years that I have been in for my six month cleaning, Dr. Flak has come in to do an exam. This last time he didn't and he was there because I saw him in the next exam room. When I asked the hygienist if Dr. Flak was going to come in and do an exam she said "no, he'll do that next time in September". It looks like I'm going to have to find another dentist. I even called their office the next day to voice my concerns but they never returned my call.

Finally I said enough and decided to search for the best dentist in Chicago, thats when I found Dr. Hoffman. I'd love to say just in time, but unfortunately a little too late. Dr. Hoffman was able to repair (Permanently!) the damage my dentist has done over the decades and brought me back to life! Literally could barely eat solids before and now I'm chomping on apples all day. You get what you pay for, and your teeth is no place to cheap out! Trust me, do it right the first time and see Dr. Hoffman. I deeply regret not finding him sooner. The technology and the level of service is second to none! Not to mention he's and his staff are some of the warmest, friendliest people around. Well worth at least getting an opinion here. He wopn't make you do things you don't need, but will let you know if you're in trouble and need something done asap. Probabl;y saved me from getting a full mouth of implants at my tender age of 46 when I met him. Forever grateful!

Before any physical examination or proper diagnosis, a staff member came in and quoted me $1,600 for Botox injections. When I pushed back, another person came in to push the same recommendation. At no point had anyone touched or examined my jaw. When the actual specialist finally saw me, he recommended Invisalign as the only real solution at nearly $6,000. This is not standard diagnostic practice for TMJ. Even though Dr. Hoffman said he was 90% sure it would correct my TMJ. Botox and Invisalign are not minor suggestions. Botox is an injectable neurotoxin with real risks including muscle atrophy, asymmetry, difficulty chewing, and unpredictable results. Invisalign is an irreversible commitment that permanently changes your bite. Recommending both within minutes of meeting a patient, without a single hands-on evaluation, felt dangerous and negligent. I sought two independent second opinions. Both providers told me Invisalign was completely unnecessary for my condition. A dentist I recently saw also noted my masseter muscles are very small -- which makes the Botox recommendation even more alarming, as Botox is typically indicated for overdeveloped muscles. People suffering from TMJ are often in pain, vulnerable, and desperate for answers. They deserve an honest and thorough evaluation -- not an immediate $7,600 upsell of unnecessary and potentially harmful procedures. I'm grateful I trusted my gut and walked out.

Of course, my routine checkup and cleaning were scheduled during the height of the pandemic, when everything was shut down. Even though the office was undoubtedly operating on a skeleton crew, I was able to easily reschedule by phone. When I made the call, I opted for a June appointment, figuring that things would be *mostly* reopened by then. Well, the appointed day (today) rolled around, and I ventured to my appointment (Note: the office recently moved to a new location, just a few blocks away from its old office on Grand). Although I was nervous about going in for what is arguably an elective procedure, I am so glad that I did. The new procedures require that one not wait around in the waiting area, so I can't really say that much about that portion of the practice. The new rooms appear more private/set apart and I noticed the receptionist wiping items down constantly, as well as the hygienist taking extra precautions. Most importantly is the professionalism of the staff and Dr. Patel in making sure that I felt comfortable and at ease. Going to the dentist can be nerve-wracking, and this uncertain time can amplify the sensation. I am glad that I didn't put off this routine appointment any longer, as my teeth now feel squeaky clean after 3 months of quarantine/stay at home orders.
