Has anyone ever told you to touch grass? Well, if they have or haven't, this is where you need to go to do that. The size of these gardens are amazing and the time it takes to walk them took my family and I nearly two hours. It is a relaxing place to visit if you want some time away to read, write, or think. We came here the other night to check out the Christmas lights before they closed down for the season and it was absolutely wonderful! Our whole family went and we had so much fun walking around checking out the lights and getting pics together. I'd love to see them keep adding on every year, and also love that profits go towards charity as well. We will for sure be coming back in the summer to see the gardens. read more

This was a great morning stroll thru the gardens. You can walk a large walkway loop. Shade and sun, ponds and streams and flowers we've never seen. Wild geese walking around and flying overhead. Many memorials of supporters in ground tiles, benches and rock markers with bronze plaques. This is a former water well property with 2 each 2 milllion gallon tanks still on the property. In the kids area as a tribute to the water history are three sample valves set in place. A Butterfly Valve with a handwheel Actuator, a quarter turn ball valve and a Non Rising Stem Gate valve. Well-worth the visit! We drove an hour to visit this garden, and we were so happy we did. You can immediately tell that a great deal of thought and care has gone into creating this oasis! They have seating everywhere, making this an excellent place for seniors to visit, as well a wonderful place to bring a book and just read ... after you have toured every inch of the gardens. There is a very well-designed children's area too. Don't miss it if you have the opportunity to visit. read more

12-21-18. Some of the family and I came to see the light show tonight. It was quite awesome we went around once probably took 45 minutes. Wellfield was packed sure is nice to see that kind of support. It's not cheap $10 per person or five if you are a member like myself. But the money is well worth it even with welch packaging paying for a big chunk of it I don't know of anywhere else in Michiana like this. Go support it every Friday and Saturday it's open for another two weeks. A new family tradition has begun my granddaughter loves it!! read more

I had a very lovely time at the gardens. It was a nice place to spend a few hours in the afternoon. Lots of reviewers have covered some of the highlights so I wont go into much detail. But the setup was fun, considering social distancing and they still put in effort to make sure it was as carefree as possible. One bummer was that there were two sections of the gardens that were closed down when I was there. It made things seem smaller than they are. (Updated 10/20/19) This time we visited for the Halloween and trick or treat event and wow! So much for kids to see and do. Parking was still tricky (don't be late to events like this!) but not a huge deal. There were a dozen or so stops for trick or treaters with volunteers passing out candy, Santa on a golf cart, a children's author reading/signing her book, Mr. Deegan was there with his fish for kids to see and touch, Silly Safari educational talks with animals that kids could see and touch, a hot dog vendor, lots and lots of decorations and photo ops, and of course, the grounds themselves were beautiful. I've upped my rating from 3 to 5 stars after giving this place another chance. If you have kids and are looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, give Wellfield Botanical Gardens a try. Even better, check their website for events like this one and have even more fun. We will be back for Christmas lights again this year and already looking forward to it! read more

This is one of the better botanical gardens I've been to, despite that all of the other botanic gardens I've been to were in much bigger cities. I think that's due in large part to the fact that the garden centers around a large pond, and makes use of more sculptures and non-botanical features/structures than others. Admission is $5/person, and well worth it. If you're going, consider going on a weekend morning or on a weekday to avoid private events. We went on a Saturday afternoon, when three weddings were going on, and wish we'd been able to go a different day since we felt like there were certain areas we didn't really get to see because of the weddings and wedding photography taking place. read more

Possibly the best thing to do in Elkhart. It's easy to walk the loop in 20 minutes, or you can linger at any one of the many scenic spots with a friend for several hours. Tips: bringing food in his fine as long as you cleanup after yourself - it's a great spot for picnicking! Tuesdays are free. You can get $5 off a membership if you show them your Gateway Mile card (which you can get free online - Google it). If you get a membership card you can use it to get into much more expensive botanic gardens all around the US. read more

An amazing garden for a relatively small city, this is located in the heart of Elkhart, IN and it is a beautiful place to visit. Plus, members can purchase (for a small additional fee) a doggy membership and bring their best friend along when they visit! I visited in August when the flowers were at their peak, and it was a lovely experience. I was quite surprised by how nicely everything is kept. They were working on the Japanese garden when I visited and it was not finished yet. By next year it should be open and I am sure it will be spectacular. read more
