However this building is DANGEROUS; this venue should be avoided at all costs for events that can happen when there is snow on the ground. The building has a metal roof that's has a pitch of approximately 60-70°. If there's snow on the roof it's only a matter of time before it comes flying down before falling 3 stories to the ground. During our rehearsal dinner 5 cars had their windshields smashed in by falling snow and ice, including the bride's car. At least one vehicle had damage to the hood. The owners of the facility didn't even put up signs to notify people of the danger the next day for the wedding. I saw many people walk right under the spots where the cars were hit the night before. They just put up two caution cones and hoped for the best. After mentioning this to a few friends the following day we learned that similar incidents have happened in the past but no one was hurt. I find it disturbing that the owners have done nothing to stop people from parking or walking under this problem area. THE OWNERS ALREADY KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUE AND REFUSED TO ADDRESS IT. When this happened we all sat around and listened to the bride call the owners. The woman she spoke to was less than empathic to the bride who was obviously shaken up and crying. After finding out that no one was hurt the next thing she said was that everyone involved needs to call their insurance and make a claim. The next thing she said was, "Did you call the police? Since it's on private property the police don't need to be involved". After the bride hung up the phone we all just looked at each other dumbfounded by the lack of empathy or remorse. Two of the people whose windshields were smashed lived over an hour away and had to find someone to come and get them in the middle of a nasty storm. Also, there is a snowmobile trail that runs along 2 sides of the building. This means that it's legal for snowmobiles to be within a 10 ft of the building on all sides. The most recent wedding I attended had to be stopped a few times while we waited for packs of snowmobiles to pass. The trailhead and main gas station for the snowmobiles are also right next to Red Brick Hall. There's nothing on Google or Apple Maps indicating the presence of these trails and the owners obviously aren't going to tell you about them. To top it all off there's train tracks less than 200ft away. We had to stop the ceremony when a train came through blaring its horn. We're also still trying to figure out why the bride and groom were charged 10% more for food than originally agreed upon. If anything you'd think the owners would provide a discount after everything they put the couple through. I will edit this if the owner's insurance ends up taking care of the damaged vehicles but so far everyone is paying their deductible out of pocket.

The bridal suite was also the perfect place for my bridesmaids and I to get ready in. There were 6-7 of us getting ready in there, and it was the perfect amount of space. The owners were also amazing to work with. Any time I had a question or wanted to visit the hall, all I had to do was shoot a text and I got my answer shortly after. We also had a couple *slight* mishaps the day of, and both Jeff and Jessica were there helping us or offering back up solutions in case things didn't work out. They also even set off some fireworks for us at the end of the night!! I can't put into words how happy I am that I decided to have my wedding here!! I can't say enough good things about this venue and staff. I wouldn't wish our Covid wedding planning stress on any bride and groom, but I will tell you from personal experience, Shadowland will stop at NOTHING to give you the best wedding reception possible! We were the classic "had everything planned out pre-Covid" story, so the Covid curveball really forced us to revise all our plans. Shadowland worked with the state on what the current guidelines were, and kept us updated with every change, giving us our options and telling us what to expect. Our venue wedding coordinator, Rysa, was so responsive with our questions, and truly made us feel like our wedding day was as important to them as it was to us. Having an August 2020 wedding, we were unfortunately constrained to an outdoor reception, and although it was crushing to not be able to us their beautiful ballroom, I cried happy tears when they informed us they would be putting up tents for us outside so we could still host our reception with them. With so many cancelations and changes, it was a huge relief to know they were still in our corner and not going to give up on us! Not only did they stick with us, but they went above and beyond to make sure it was amazing. One perfect example of their attention to detail was the color-coordinated bracelets they provided for guests to display their social comfort levels at the reception. This was a huge hit during an event where we had many guests of varied preferences. I would have never thought of this, but it made ALL the difference and was one less thing for me to worry about on our wedding day when we were giving out hugs and hellos. I will admit, even though we didn't choose it on purpose, the outdoor "tent on the beach" feel was actually pretty great! The guests loved being able to walk down for sunset pictures, and it was fun dancing under the stars. Fortunately for us, the one thing we did NOT have to change was our food choices because Shadowland provided all the catering. There were so many great meal options available at our tasting that it was actually hard to pick what to serve on our wedding day, and as expected, everything was delicious! We received many compliments on the food. Our wedding reception was absolutely perfect, even amidst the ongoing changes, and i know we have Shadowland to thank for making it possible.

Nicole and Jasmine made the entire planning process so easy and fun. I didn't have a wedding planner or coordinator, so it was helpful to lean on Jasmine for questions or advice. She was organized, responsive, so sweet, and helpful. Even with my crazy type-A personality I was able to relax on my wedding day knowing Jasmine had everything covered. We had 150 people and the ballroom was a great size for that. We used the patio for cocktail hour, and that was a hit. We had a second bar on the patio for cocktail hour as well. The food was great; we got a lot of compliments and it was so easy to have catering through Shadowland. The ballroom was beautiful. The only thing I didn't love was the chairs at Shadowland, so I went with gold chiavari chairs from www.chiavarichairswedding.com and they were fantastic and really made the room look great. I recommend using their preferred vendor list. It was so nice to have vendors who were familiar with the staff and layout. We used Ben Pancoast photography and photo booth and Music Unlimited for our DJ. They were terrific. We rented the carousel for 1 hour and it was a HIT. Our wedding was 21+ and the adults loved it. We definitely needed the full hour for the 150 guests to get our photos done first. We also loved the Mock Wedding shadowland throws for their confirmed couples. The catering/serving staff (who work for the venue) we're incredibly rude and lazy. Those are really the only positive things that we can say about Whittaker Woods as our venue. The rest of our experience was horrid. Our experience seemed to be common because whenever we told people who lived in the area where our wedding was going to be held, their eyes would get wide, and they would say, "Oh? How is that working out?" When we would ask them for their opinion, they all basically suggested that the management was very unpleasant to deal with, from what they had heard from other couples. Our event coordinator changed twice during the less than one year that we were planning our wedding. We had high hopes going in because the original coordinator seemed to know what she was doing, was nice, and seemed to really want our business; however, she was replaced for mysterious and complicated reasons shortly after we signed our contract. The two coordinators who followed her seemed to have no experience or training in event coordination. The prices were all increased substantially between when we signed on with them and when our wedding was held, and we were not given the new prices until a week before our wedding - talk about stress! The owner, Mr. O'Brien, seems to only care about money and is very unprofessional. We were never introduced to him, but heard him once yelling at his staff about someone who hadn't paid their deposit, where all the customers (not many that day) could hear him-he seemed not to care. Our coordinator (the third one) consistently did not return our phone calls regarding the planning, and seemed always to be disorganized. She also once claimed to have never received a message that we left her, but later FAXed us a sheet that had a photocopy of the message slip that she "didn't receive". She also miscalculated our bill. We scheduled a tasting, and our coordinator did not give the chef the list of items that we wanted to taste, so he was unprepared. He also had dirt under his fingernails, just what you want in a chef. The food did taste good, but was overpriced. The shuttle bus that we paid to have to drive our guests from the hotel to Whittaker Woods and back left 30 minutes prior to the time that we had paid for, even though the coordinator had told us that he would stay. Then many of our guest (and us!) had to bum rides back to the hotel. Their excuse was that the shuttle driver had been sitting there for a while waiting for people to need a ride. What does that matter when we are paying by the hour?! Why should a lot of people be leaving when the reception is far from over?! That pretty much sums up our experience. As I said, the facility looks very nice and is set up well to hold a wedding and reception, but by the time we had our weddding, we had had so many problems with the management, it was hard not to let that affect our feelings about the place; also, we were worried about how they were going to take advantage of us next, but tried not to let it spoil our day.

There is a large bar area and enough room for a cocktail hour line plus a coffee bar. Most importantly, there is a disco ball! Plus: everything was clean and well-maintained. Hedwig took care of the wall decorations, table decorations, tablecloths, bar, and dinner. The wall decorations were white and (at the bride and groom's request) red lights. It was quite elegant. They also recommended the DJ, who was quite good! If I weren't from out of town, I'd have some event at Hedwig myself. Keep up the good work, Hedwig!
