When we got to the register, the young girl asked for our IDs. I proceeded to get mine out and told her he didn't have one. She informed me she couldn't sell to me with him there. I actually have never brought my son into a liquor store so am unaware of any particular laws. I genuinely asked if he waited in the car could we complete the sale. She proceeded to throw her hands up in the air in front of all the customers and loudly state "I cannot sell ANYTHING to YOU." Okay...I'm confused...did I do something? I guess this is a law. I'm perfectly okay with that, and truly appreciate Luke's upholding the law as I don't condone underage drinking nor was I buying for my son. Ignorance is no excuse. But was there a reason why she couldn't nicely EXPLAIN what the law was instead of embarrassing us as if we were knowingly doing something wrong. I dropped my son off at home and thought about going back (though I'm not sure if I was blackballed for the day/week/month since she didn't explain the law to me). But CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVERYTHING so I went elsewhere (without my son) to make my purchase from lovely merchant up the road. It will be a very long time before step foot in Luke's again. I'm sure Luke's does enough business that one customer won't hurt their profit but, if I'm being honest, I've never found the cashiers in the Harwich location to be all that cordial.

It's in the location of the old Bass River Savings Bank. There's a big sign in front that says "REDEMPTION" that is amusing enough that on separate occasions, weeks apart, I've seen people taking photos of that sign. 5 stars is for the staff. A good packy store guy pretty much has the personality of a good bartender. They have to be able to crack a joke, or not groan too hard at a lame joke, help you find what you're looking for, and be friendly with each and every customer. These guys do that. Most of the wine bottles had their price on yellow stickers, but none of the beers had prices. So my husband asked if there were any beer specials and the lady said in a very "unfriendly" voice .... I bought snacks and orange juice tonight, and I had to dump out the entire half gallon of orange juice because it had a disgusting metallic smell. It was rancid, even though the freshness date was March 15 (two weeks from now), which means somebody isn't protecting the perishable products and keeping the inventory fresh. Spoiled products at a 40% mark-up compared to neighbors? I think I'll shop elsewhere from now on.
