The facility is on the south end of town with awesome views of the harbor. I'm all about the water so this was my primary reason for choosing this venue. There were excellent restaurants nearby and the mile walk into the heart of Newport was very do-able. We were even able to walk to a couple of the mansion tours. Parking was included and easy which is why we chose to walk many places. The condo was very large and we enjoyed having a kitchen available for breakfast and lunches. Everything was clean throughout the resort and the poolside lounge chairs were in very good condition. The condo decor was dated (circa 1990s maybe) but everything functioned well and the unit was well supplied. We found booking directly on the resort website was the absolute best pricing and fair for the value. Pricing on owner rented sites seemed extremely high for the value. read more

We used to love the Wellington, we never had any probelms . Apparently that is where they fail. We went to desk to report water coming from floor above in bathroom keeping us up. The desk people said too bad, you booked through a 3rd party. By the time The manager replied to my email, it had been days. She basically told me the room was dry and no sign of damage. She was rude and dismissive as was the desk attendent who didnt even look up when we said water was dripping from room above. The manager fought with me. Never admitted she was wrong and was absolutely rude and disgraceful. What kind of customer service doesn't ask how they can help smh so pathetic and very unprofessional. I recently had the pleasure of hosting our Friendsgiving party at the Wellington Resort in Newport, Rhode Island, and I must say it exceeded all expectations. The charming fireplace, coupled with breathtaking views of the bay and the Newport bridge sunsets, created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The highlight was undoubtedly the spacious dining room table, where our party of 10 enjoyed a delightful dinner. The two-bedroom suite, with two twin beds in a separate bedroom and a master suite boasting a king-size bed and a luxurious Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, felt more like a cozy home than a hotel. I don't really mind that it was outdated. Other reviews about cabinets don't phase me. I did mind that 2 towels were pretty stained. One had a (hopefully) nail polish stain - it was literally bright red and gigantic. Definitely should not have made it past whoever folded it. Another one had a small blood stain. Did not use that towel. Suite was huge, bigger than my first apartment. King-size bed was good. Place seemed mostly clean except for those gross towels. $860 for 2 nights, so I guess that's $430 per stain. read more

We booked for two king beds months in advance. When we arrived to check in, they offered us either two twin beds or one king bed and a pullout sofa bed. We opted for the king bed and the pullout sofa. The jet tub had brown sediment that came out of the jets. The saving grace for this stay was the VIEW and the front desk clerk. Our room was on the third floor and overlooked the bay. It was in walking distance of fantastic ships, cafes and with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Kendra at the front desk was AWESOME! She was very attentive to all of our needs. She offered excellent spots of interest, and made sure we received an incoming emergency package. read more

Not impressed by this place. Had a family health emergency forcing us to cancel our reservation 5 days before our arrival. Granted they say they keep your 600 dollar deposit but when the wife called the guy was so matter of fact. Shes crying because of what's happened at our home and the guy was cold and could care less. I can see if you cancel for no reason but no option to change to a later date or any thought of refunding the deposit ( she didn't even ask him ). keep the 600 and choke on it you heartless bastards read more

My stay at the Wellington was also for a Bachelorette Party - for which it is the perfect place to stay!! We were in a 2-bedroom suite (we crammed more than 6 people in, thanks to air matresses), with 2 bathrooms, 2 balconies (one with a GORGEOUS view of the harbor) and a full kitchen. The suite is not the most gorgeous or posh, but hey, we were there to party! Although, apparently the people who stayed there before us were there to party too, as there was an open tampon (YES, GROSS), on the bedroom balcony when we arrived. EW. Also, the kitchen had a nasty smell - before we got going. The outdoor pool is clean, cold and refreshing. We had no problem getting a bunch of pool chairs together. Poolside bar service would be nice though! ;) We were also surprised that the beach right next to the hotel isn't "usable" for swimming and tanning! The location is wonderful - right on the main strip of stores and restaurants - but that makes parking difficult. You get a few free spots per room, but any more than that, and you have to pay $10/night. read more

Great option for a family coming into town for an extended stay. Nothing fancy, but fun pool area. No lifeguard on duty for big outdoor pool, so beware with your kids. Comfortable lounge chairs. Room set up was decent. Everything is a little old, but you're coming into town to explore the city. It's easy walking distance from many shops. Nice huge bath! I know this is silly, but I love those old heat lamps in bathrooms...and ours had one! I was toasty warm before heading out on a cool summer evening. read more

This place has run its course. Bathrooms, cabinets, everything is outdated to the 1990s: if you are paying $800/night, you would think at least everything would be at least up to peoples amenities- not. The bathrooms are dirty, there obviously was a leak in the ceiling and it was taped shut with a horrible coverup. After 4 tired years, we won't be returning. Newport onshore has our business with their beautiful establishment. read more

Loved it! This place is fantastic! Very friendly staff. There's fresh popcorn and coffee in the lobby, and a welcome reception in the afternoon. Our room was terrific - we had a suite with a full kitchen. Rooms are clean and comfortable - bed was great. Best of all, the staff is terrific! Great place to spend the week..Clean, comfy, has both a outdoor pool and an indoor one for winter swimming. This is our second year here xmas week . 2 bedroom/ 2 bath One problem only this week and even though we were clobbered with a brutal winter snow blizzard, everything was fine except for the people who stayed over us on the 3rd floor. They have 4 kids and the running just didnt stop for a minute. Sounded like there were a 3 ring circus overhead. We had to go up there to complain to them to stop and control their kids, several times. However the front desk got sick of hearing our complaining and moved them. Hopefully to a zoo nearby. Week half over here, all is calm and well. Fireplace, flat screen TVs, nice box windows and view of harbor. A nice change from the maddess of NYC if you come here in the winter. read more

I would love to give this resort a five star but we do need HOT WATER! for the second day in a row we have to take cold showers. Calls to the desk are seemingly disregarded with a "let run for ten minutes" response. The unit (two bedroom) with a great view is spaciouse, comfy, and clean. The view of the harbor is awsome. This is the second time we've stayed here. Our first stay was great and without problems. This stay could be better if we had some hot water to start the day off with. Good amount of space but VERY dated. But for the location and price I guess you can't complain. I heard they're doing a remodel soon, so the price is most likely going to go up soon. The view was great and the pool area was a nice bonus. The kitchen was lightly stocked with plates and other thing of the sort. This place is pretty darn nice. Stayed here for a bachelorette party with about 12 girls over 2 rooms. It's pricey, but if you're splitting it it's not so bad. They have large suites with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, plus a good size living/dining area and kitchen. There is covered parking available if you want it. The pool deck is really nice and wasn't too busy. It has great views of the water and is right at the end of the main drag of Newport. Walking distance to a lot of stuff. Just stayed there. Good enough. A few oddities. No sponge or dish washing cleaner - two tablets for dishwasher though. No Stove or oven - but a microwave and electric pan, and a big dining room table. The master bath is not connected to the master bedroom. The guest bath is connected to the guest bedroom. The place is big and was very clean. The office was nice and made us listen to two pages of rules. I would stay there again. read more

We've been staying her for 6 years running so this review takes a lot of experience at this resort into consideration. First and foremost, if your looking for a lavish, upscale resort -- this isn't it. This place is family friendly, and a solid value if you can negotiate a great deal with a timeshare owner, or agent, but going through the front desk is an outrageous expense. The accommodations are comfortable, and the units are basic but spacious. The outdoor and indoor pools are great and the waterfront location makes it a great setting, and a great spot for the fireworks. We really enjoy the balconies each unit has and the sizable living room/dinning area. The location is great because its a short walk to down town, which means you can mostly keep the car parked. read more

Jared B is right on the money with this one. I booked the Wellington through a third party site. They promised one price for a waterfront room and kitchen suite. When we arrived, the property put us in a tiny bedroom with a small bathroom. We went back to the front desk and asked for what we had booked. We were put into a waterfront suite, but they took us to the cleaners for an extra $75/night thanwe agreed to pay. PLUSES (FEW): The waterfront area carries conversation easily, but surprisingly it wasn't as disruptive at night as I anticipated. It is also righ at the end of the main dining and shops on Thames Street. The shower was huge - 2 showerheads. But the "pluses" stop there. MINUSES: Other reviewers are right. The rooms are dated and rough. This is not a resort or a hotel. It is hard to put your finger on what exactly it is. They rent out units, and have this excuse of "we have to answer to our timeshare owners and management company." We drove 8.5 hours and over 400miles, ONLY TO END UP SLEEPING ON A PULL OUT COUCH! This is not what I had planned for $500/night. I knew Newport was pricey, but for the same price I could/should have chosen a better hotel. (Marriott, Wyndham, Hyatt Place) The WiFi is slow and not great, too. The staff acts like they can't understand why you would have an issue, and throws it in your face how much other guests are paying. (I'm not a cheapo either. I've stayed in some of the best hotels in the best destinations.) It wasn't until the morning after we arrived that the manager Marcia offered the kit to connect the twin beds into a king until the second night. It was a HUGE disappointment. I had really crushed expectations, and lost $2,000 on a lackluster hotel experience. Offering an extra decaf filter and a few extra towels (since they don't service the room unless you want to cough up another $50) just isn't my idea of making things right. I won't be back. Newport is expensive but this place is a rip off. read more

My husband and I stay at the Wellington every year. Often we have company stay overnight for a couple of nights. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the 2 bedroom apartment is huge and spotless and even includes a clothes washer and dryer. The location of the Wellington is wonderful, within walking distance to everything (we're walkers), and yet it's on the quiet end of Thames St. And although there is no stove, there are small appliances and full size fridge. Most days we eat out once a day and prepare the rest of our meals in the apartment. The rate is $350 per night in the fall and when you consider all that you get for that fee, it's a very moderate price to pay. read more

Great place to spend the week, weekend, night, etc. in a beautiful seaside town. The amenities are family friendly, great pools, kitchen and suite are spotless, gorgeous huge bathtub, bed, awesome deck overlooking the pool. We have rented here 3 times over the past 4 years for a weekend get-away with friends, and we won't make the same mistake ever again. The first time, we thought that our problems were just an isolated rental unit. The 2nd time too; but now we realize that this place survives because it in on the water and has beautiful views - not much else. It is expensive to rent here, and for as much money as you pay for these places, you'd think that they would have salt and pepper in the kitchen. You'd think that there would be more than 4 coffee cups, and if they only have 4 cups, why not have a small container of dish detergent in the kitchen so we can clean them? They want you to leave the place clean when you leave, so why are there NO cleaning supplies anywhere??? When the heat comes on it makes a lot of noise and it's like a wind tunnel. You can hear the elevator running when someone uses it. If you have someone staying above your unit, you hear them walking around. Okay, who needs a good night's sleep when on vacation? The temperature of the water in the indoor swimming pool is cold; not luke warm, COLD! If you are in the back bedroom, the WiFi doesn't work consistently. Then, what really was annoying is that check-out time on Sunday is at 10 a.m.!! You cannot check in until 4 p.m., so that gives them 6 hours to clean the unit!???!!?! When you ask if you can check out at 11 instead of 10 (on a Sunday morning), they tell you that you'll be charged $100/hour! Really?? It's the winter time, it's not peak season. The parking lot is empty, so there are not that many units to clean! And the people in the office are condescending and not helpful. Find someplace else to go, Newport is a big city. read more

Stayed at the Wellington Resort 9/14 and 9/15. Check in is at 4:00 and check out is at 10:00. You get charged for an extra day if you check out later after 10:00 a.m.. Normally check out is at 11:00 allowing you to have some breakfast and sleep a little longer. A bit pricey for such a short stay. We had 1 room with a kitchen.. Lovely view. Very clean. The light outside our door in the hall was not lit and did not work making it difficult to see our room number. Half the lights in our room had switches that did not work.We were not given a list of kitchen items that one would expect be in the kitchen. The frying pan was in the washer/dryer area not on a counter and with no stove we could not fry an egg. We were told we should have called the office. We should have been provided with a list of where these items were or shown when we arrived. The staff works very hard to make the Wellington Resort but there should be some lead way on check out time when we booked the room.. Having to leave a room by 10:00 a.m. and making breakfast is a bit rushed and not enjoyable. read more
