Every request is met with resistance, suspicion, or refusal. She appears more concerned about protecting her license than actually helping her patients, which makes no sense when patients are simply asking for basic care--not anything illegal or inappropriate. As a primary care doctor, answering basic questions and assisting patients should be part of the job. Instead, she questions everything, dismisses concerns, and refuses to help unless something strictly requires her signature. This creates an uncomfortable and frustrating environment for patients who are simply seeking care. The office staff makes the experience even worse. The front office manager is extremely rude and unprofessional. The physician assistant is also disrespectful and unhelpful. Phone calls are often unanswered, and when someone does pick up, staff members are rude, talk over you, or even yell. All they seem to care about is collecting co-pays and billing insurance, not patient care. The only positive person in this entire office is Mina, the Front receptionist. She is kind, respectful, and genuinely willing to help. Unfortunately, she is the only one. My wife and I have both been treated disrespectfully, and after this experience, we will never return. I strongly advise others to choose a different doctor--one who actually listens, respects patients, and is confident enough to provide care without fear. First, the office setting does NOT evoke the feel of a highly successful practice. When I met with Dr. Joen, she proceeded to tell me that my insurance, Anthem PPO, only covers $50 a visit, although I was told that I was covered by insurance and only had a $20 co-pay when I scheduled the appointment. I asked what the $295 consultation fee that she recommended and other extra charges would do to make me feel better, and she told me wants to focus on my whole body and health and acupuncture would not do accomplish that. This was only after viewing my tongue and checking my pulse. I wanted an explanation of what the greater services would provide and she couldn't tell me as that meant she was consulting and that would cost more. Although I am fortunate enough to afford whatever the cost, she told me that I must be poor, as rich people don't care and most of her clients are rich based on where her office is located. She said she services the poor and devotes time and free services around the world and kept telling me that everybody loves her. Unbelievable. I should have walked out when she insulted me, but I was curious. There was a Catch 22, as I wanted more information to make a decision about committing to more services and to see what she was trying to sell me countered by the fact that she wouldn't tell me more as that meant a consultation. She provided her services although reluctantly. She forgot about me being hooked up to a machine that I believe lasted 3 times longer than it should have. After one day, I am experiencing no benefit from her services in making my back and neck better. This was my first acupuncture experience. I will try it again, but with a very different practitioner.
