I had the same experience as Lori K. I called to make sure they took my insurance. I had to leave a message with all my information. I requested a return call if they did not accept my insurance. No one called. I took time off from work, paid for parking and when I got to the front desk, no one had verified my insurance, but assured me they would get the information before proceeding. I had a lengthy wait. In the chair, thinking I was covered, the office manager came in and stated the receptionist "forgot to ask" her if she could check my insurance and she is the one who has access. No, I wasn't covered and she wanted to know what I wanted to do! I paid for a crown out of pocket. Dentist and office were pleasant. Dr. Carpenter and the office were great! Really convenient for students at UCSD like myself and the hours are really accommodating to your schedule. They went over and above for taking COVID precautions and every single procedure was quick and painless. Dr. Carpenter made sure I was comfortable the whole time and used state-of-the-art laser technology that numbing wasn't even needed. On the downside, costs at this office built up so quickly and it ended up being hundreds of dollars for a cleaning and fillings. I asked very explicitly for an explanation of costs, which was provided to me as an itemized list before treatments along with the expected insurance payments. But, to my surprise, I was blindsided by an additional bill a few weeks later brings the total costs for a routine cleaning + some fillings to around $800! They are out-of-network for my insurance (UHC), so I suppose it was partly on me for not understanding how dental insurance works. Overall, I am saddened to say that I won't be back unless if I had some catastrophic dental emergency in the area. read more

I have gone here 8 years, great dentists and I love the tvs on ceiling, very clean and professional. The issue I have is the billing and front office staff. I will be told I owe an amount h then get a statement what is hundred dollars more, when I asked why it's not right they can't give a clear answer. Then they send an email today saying I owe $130 for exams from 2022. I said if my insurance didn't cover them I wouldn't have gotten them. They said back the service was not done there. Mic drop. I went in for my biannual cleaning and am very satisfied with the entire office. The receptionist remembered me and asked about my travel. I am always impressed by the focus on patient safety and protection. The hygienist was efficient and professional. COVID taught us all about how virus's are easily spread and many safety procedures were put into place to protect patients. Wellness Group learned this and incorporated many of the recommended safety and equipment policies are still used in the office to protect patients beyond COVID type illnesses. This review is long overdue. I went to go see Dr. Kim/Dr. Carpenter in the past for a root canal treatment/fillings/check up and I just wanted to stress that the staff members and the doctors (shoutout to the front desk and Lainey) are extremely kind, angelic and professional. I live in Long Beach (1.5 hours away) now and I still return to this location solely because the doctors here are extremely trustworthy and they always explain their thought process/opinion in regards to any treatment, so you can leave the office without any worries. Dr. Carpenter has been really great so far. Seen him a few times for several fillings. He is very responsive to my desire to know all the details of what he is doing and he offers laser fillings, which are a total must and game-changer for me. Takes his time to do the fillings right. Lainey, the hygienist, is also hands-down the most intelligent hygienist (think dentist-level knowledge) I have had. Had a great experience here and think I found my "forever dentist." I will say that I haven't been to such a great "doctor" style establishment ever. They know how to do business and they know how to do it well. After my original dentist left town for an inexplicable reason, I was recommended here by one coworker and I'm almost positive that I have pulled everyone from the office to go here. The staff welcomes you with open arms, the office is clean and sanitary, the rooms are top notch with the most up-to-date equipment, including televisions in the ceiling so you can watch movies while you get dental work done (if you don't finish it, you can take it home and bring it back later). Dr. Kim himself is very up front and honest with you as well, which is wonderful if you are like me and know your teeth are too precious to mess with - especially after 2 sets of braces. Not only am I all about Arlene (my hygenist) and Caroline (receptionist) as well, but they have always done plenty of research for me in order to give me the most help I can get in regard to what parts insurance covers as well as what portions I will have to cover. My wife had a lot of difficulties with Dr. Kim's office. (They billed the insurance under my name.) 1) They misbilled the insurance and after multiple attempts asking them to correct it still failed after the promised date and they ask the patient to PAY for their mistake! 2) Treating a tooth scratching the nearby teeth, as a result, an additional fund needs to be spent on treating it. 3) Told patient a filling is needed BUT after drilling, suggesting the patient for a crown (which is about $1000+ more) and only given an hour or so of notice. As such, the costs of treating from their office can go up quickly. Yelp or the office or anyone is welcomed to contact me for relevant notes. read more

I've been going to this dental office since 2016. Woah! excellent service, updated and upgraded technology. My mind is blown. The dentists, hygenists and front desk people are fantastic. Get to know Meriah at the front desk. She is absolutely warm and friendly. She has gone out of her way a few times to help me. This dental office cares about their people. I used to be homeless, and Meriah suggested a cost effective insurance plan so I could maintain my teeth. I've referred a lot of friends and family to La Jolla Center for Advanced Dentistry and I describe the office and staff as the "Lexus experience" of dentistry. Comfort is key. Great customer service. State of the art approach to dentistry. Total professionals. It's not the cheapest dentist in town, but when it comes to my teeth and ultimately health, would I want that?! I want value and quality and that is what Dr. Kim and Dr. Giles provide. I once had a tooth emergency and they got me in quickly at their Poway location, totally accommodating my schedule. I was scared to try a new dentist after a bad experience elsewhere a couple years prior, but needed to get in before I got married. I was referred to this office by a friend, and am so happy I took the chance. I've been going here a few years now, and rave to everyone about my amazing dental office. Every single team member is friendly, professional, courteous and knowledgeable. The team knows my name, they remember personal details (e.g. Lisa asking for photos post wedding, Caroline remembering the details of my bad experience elsewhere a couple years prior), and are overall so pleasant and a joy to be around. They have also always gone above and beyond to help me when I need it. A few highlights: Laurie sending me an invoice during the shutdown when my FSA card "locked" me out, so I could resolve a transaction. Lisa for being so personable and welcoming. Lisa and Caroline always helping me to understand any quoted costs for procedures. Dr. Kim for helping me to feel comfortable when I transitioned to their office and was nervous, being so nice, working with me over the shutdown when my Invisalign liner cracked, providing great instruction on what photos I should send, and mailing my last few trays to me directly at home. Caroline for all the things lol - getting me in quickly when I had a tooth chip out of nowhere, refitting me for a new retainer, generally being hilarious and a joy to be around, and coaching me through X-rays when I am the worst at them. She is everywhere all at once, and always smiling - not sure how she does it but she's amazing. Shout out to Adrienne for X-rays coaching too, and not judging me when we used kids sizes lol. Dr. Carpenter for always helping me to feel relaxed, being so willing to explain things to me or answer questions, making great product referrals, and making sure I am never in pain during a procedure. Also, for generally being hilarious and so pleasant to be around. The team overall for implementing excellent health and safety protocols for COVID-19 once permitted to reopen by the county. If a dentist breaks his tooth, where does he go? (Yes, dentists have to go to the dentist too). Dr. Kim has been my dentist since I started to get old and stressed and started breaking teeth. I usually tell him I was just eating a salad and a rock was left in there, but I think he knows better. This office is very clean and organized. Dr. Kim has a positive attitude and also gives very good anesthetic injections. I've also been impressed with the quality of care provided by the hygienists that have cleaned my teeth. The front office communicates very well and makes you feel welcome. Dr. Kim has embraced the latest in proven dental technologies to make procedures easier on us. Very poor communication. They said my familiy's insurance can cover most of cost, but after we finish our treatments they call back us and the insurance cannot cover. We have to spend more than 700 bucks just for simple cleaning and filling. Actually we have asked several times about insurance coverage but whenever we asked they said it will be covered. I've been going here for years because the dentistry and care of patients is top notch. But I am writing this review because of the front of house staff. I had scheduled an appointment and confirmed it for a given day (they are very good about changes being made via text message even and they track all of that which turned out great). Somehow, instead of confirming for the given day, they accidentally cancelled the appointment. When I showed up, the person at the front desk said that the appointment appeared to have been cancelled (her phraseology intentionally did not place any blame on me). Then she read through the text messages and profusely apologized explaining that the appointment should have been booked but it wasn't. Instead of trying to rebook me for another day, she and Dr. Kim made it a priority to get me seen at that time. They owned up to the scheduling error. I was impressed that they did not blame me for the cancellation, that they took ownership of their mistake, and then they did everything possible to make it right. Customer service in general has suffered in the past few years, but Wellness Dental Group - La Jolla did it right. Kudos to them and they earned the five stars!!! read more

Outstanding customer service and patient care! My first visit to this office was simply one of the best experiences I've had visiting a general dentist. The hygienist took the time to examine my dental habits and tendencies closely and gave me tools so I could continue to take care of them at home. Also, I've never had a doctor be so thorough with me in reviewing each tooth (including with digital x-rays and infrared video) so that I really could see and understand the issues and why I needed treatment. Overall it was a real pleasure to be seen by Dr. Kim and his very helpful and friendly staff. They have flat-screen TV's in each room, including one in the ceiling above each patient chair. When I moved rooms, the staff member even came over and switched the channel, saying "Oh, we don't want you to miss the end of that (Cupcake Wars) episode." Prices seem reasonable and on par with my previous dentist who did not have all this cutting edge technology, and Dr. Kim is in my insurance plan, so most of the costs will be covered. I will be returning to Dr. Kim mid-January for fillings and will update my review then! read more

This review is specifically for my visit today with Dr. Kim, his assistant Natalie and Lainey. I already mentioned in my previous review about how all the staff members and doctors are extremely professional and kind. (And it is still true to this day). During the entire cavity filling, the only time that I felt the smallest amount of pain was during the injection of the numbing agent and the first few seconds of when my tooth was being gently drilled. However, the rest of the procedure was SO PAINLESS that I caught myself almost falling asleep and caught myself slowly closing my eyes. Pain level was less than 1.5/10 (with the injection) to 0/10 (once the numbing agent took effect). Also, really would like to give a shoutout to Lainey because her advice and cleaning really helped me improve my oral health and health of my gums. TLDR: Better than your average dentists/hygienist and goodbye dental anxiety! read more
