Small businesses beware!…read more I handle a lot of small currency and every so often need to change a substantial amount of $1 bills. Asked the (unmasked) clerks to count bills in front of me- they refused and, without even asking the amount took several bundles of my currency into a back room out of my sight, emerging minutes later to tell me the bundles do not match my count (the presumed amount they still have not asked!) Now not only am I not able to determine who in my office is miscounting bundles as they were not handled in front of me (though a bill counting machine sits directly behind the front counter they opted to use one out of my view against my wishes) or to exclude the possibility that the clerks mishandled, misplaced or set aside bills without my knowledge- again, they refused to do a count in front of me, not even asking the amount of currency they were taking into the back room before going there. Fine. It's not much money. I'll live. I pay the difference from my own pocket, even if the bank clerks dropped the missing cash behind a filing cabinet or something I simply attempt to finish the transaction. The clerks then attempt to give me back ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS less than what I had given them to exchange! I had to argue with them to convince them of their incorrectness because again, they refused to count my money in front of me! So after some convincing (again, just wow) they admit they miscounted by ONE HUNDRED (wow) and finally caved, giving me what I asked for in exchange after a lot of hassle for just a simple changing of bills. Told them typically when a customer walks into a bank and hands them a huge stack of money the cashiers are usually happy to count it in front of the client (or at least ask: "how much money is this you're handing me?") to ensure no impropriety and they ordinarily are able to count the money accurately without the client needing to convince them of their honesty in their initial count since they neglected even to ask for a deposit slip or verify the amount being exchanged in ANY WAY- absolutely unprofessional, irregular behavior that I've never encountered before. Whatever. I move on, I try to finish my business... ...and now the clerks inform me they do not accept torn currency (not mutilated, not soiled, just torn- discerning that "some bills are more torn than others" and refusing to make a distinction between acceptable or not, a benchmark I am to understand via Google is anything over half the bill which all of these were) and claiming they have never accepted torn bills as a matter of policy (which could be easily posted as an informative sign in the lobby, though no such sign exists). When asked if they would help me to exchange the bills they stated they cannot do this because it costs them money (??? Do they not regularly exchange currency???) and that I would have to mail the torn bills to get them exchanged. I have NEVER had this issue at another bank who are always happy to add the torn bills to their own outgoing currency for exchange. The clerk said it is not a service they provide (though seemingly optional or just their own personal preference as every other location has done so without hesitation). When asked for information on what location would help me exchange the currency they refused and said to call other locations or look it up online, but it was not something they cared to get into with me, refusing to inspect the money before pushing the bills back across the counter. During the course of this conversation I had borrowed the scotch tape dispenser from the desk to repair said damaged bills- the clerk reached across the counter and snatched it out of my hands as if I were committing an offense by using .3 cents worth of scotch tape. I asked to close my account. The clerks said "great!" and sat silently staring at a screen, not moving to close my account but rather electing to wait me out until presumably 5pm. I left and exchanged the damaged bills at a different bank of Marin location where it was treated as a matter of routine. This branch is either just poorly staffed or worse, is truly suffering financial woes that necessitate pinching pennies at their customer's expense. I'm unsure of why I pay a monthly service fee as part of my account when I am unable to access the only services I need from this bank! Won't be returning to Sausalito location and pulling my business from them next quarter. There are plenty of independent credit unions out there if your small business needs assistance- make sure you don't make the mistake of thinking bank of Marin is one of them! It may help explain why almost every bank of Marin branch I try to visit has either closed or converted to a different banking institution- have tried to give them my business but they're just not very good! Don't need this level of hassle for what should be a simple transaction! Extremely unprofessional and rude about it! Wow!

I gave him a $100.00 dollar bill that had the edge was torn off. He question me about it and I explained to him that we just got those bills from this Bank the day before. he quoted " I would have remembered it." What a ridiculous thing to say. I was having a challenging day and needed the cash to post right away and it did but I feel it necessary to post this yelp so his supervisor might help him be more accommodating next time to Bank of Marin customers without the attitude. Now off to the tow yard to retrieve my truck that was towed for being parked over 72hrs. Only $500.00 Plus to get it back. NICE.

She does not suffer fools well, so if you're flakey, prone to drama, have an inflated sense of your own identity or think you know the current tax code better than she does, you won't have a good experience. I have 20 years in my industry and have always been ranked top in my industry. I have dealt with many tax preparers and many different types of client tax situations. I am also personally trained to do tax returns. So I speak from a lot of experience when I say - please understand this tax preparer is not okay. I have run into many weak tax preparers over the years...often they are mom and pop shops. But she stands out as one of the worst.
