I just hired Wells to clean two couches and an armchair and they did a good job. Communication and scheduling was seamless and easy. They have a flat rate for arm chairs and a flat rate per foot for the couch. I like that pricing is upfront, vs other places that I reached out to. I called and was easily able to schedule an appointment for the following week. The employee who arrived to do the cleaning was professional and did a great job. The two couches and armchair took around 2 hours to complete. They look and smells very fresh - the armchair had more wear and tear but the couches practically look brand new. It's safe to say that my toddler is not allowed to have snacks anywhere near the couch for the foreseeable future, lol! Price will of course depend on how large your couch is, but for two standard three piece couches and an armchair my total was around $300. You can certainly rent cleaning equipment and do this yourself for much cheaper, but at 30 weeks pregnant some chores are absolutely worth hiring for. Plus, this is a nice thing to do for a spring refresh every couple of years. Only knocking off a star because they were two hours late but it happens! Cleaned a 3x6 foot reproduction oriental carpet for about $20 that I dropped off and picked up again, that's just over a buck a square foot and it took a week. Wells Rug Service is A-OK with me, three stars for service that was exactly as expected. Other services: they'll clean wall-to-wall carpet in your home. Sell rugs here too, there's a small but well-stocked showroom. Only caveat - their building is squeezed into a tiny lot on Bank Street with four (count 'em, 4) parking spaces in back. Making the turn in can be tricky, getting out again is even worse. Leave the urban assault vehicle at home! :) read more

We purchased a beautiful vintage rug from Iran. We decided we wanted to clean it before letting our son play on it. The rug came back warped. The fine fibers of the rug felt like they had been through a washing machine. The colors were no longer vibrant. In some small places, the colors bled into each other. It's clearly abnormal to get a rug back in this condition. The dealer had it cleaned some years ago before selling it to us - and it looked fantastic. We thought Wells would be able to do as good of a job. We were wrong. If you're cleaning something valuable, this is not the place. read more

I have used Wells Rug Service for many years, while married and now as a single woman. I used to always take my rugs in and pick them up. As I was moving, I took them there so I would not have to move my 2 big rugs and 3 smaller ones. I also asked they be delivered to my new home. They always do a great job on the cleaning, although pricey. But the delivery was another story. I needed to pick up something work-related for my son in Brooklyn, photograph part of it and then mail it to him. At 10 I called and asked when they would be here. The woman said 'before noon.' I thought 'great, then I can run out and do what I need to and still be here before my lunch guest arrives about 1.' No, my guest was there and the delivery guy called about 2 and said 'within an hour.' At 4 pm they FINALLY showed up. The older guy (Stephan I think) was very very rude when I complained about the 2 lies I was told and said 'well, its FREE delivery (only rude people would not tip these guys).' He left for his truck and the younger guy put down 2 rugs, 1 in the bedroom which was already clear to do that. He and I moved a couple pieces in the living area and he put that rug down, too. I gave him 10 and told him to NOT share it with the other guy as he was very rude. Although I am in fantastic shape, I am still 70, and need a bit of help getting 2 big rugs laid on the floor. Eric seemed sympathetic and nice, the other guy was just plain rude and doesn't understand customer service whatsoever ! ! After they left I had to race in the rain to pick up son's stuff, send him a photograph via my iPhone and then run to the post office to mail it to him. I paid 250 for 2 bigger rugs and 3 smaller ones, the most expensive was the Indian rug for my bedroom. 2 of the small rugs I originally bought from Wells, an adorable rug with a bear and the other cute with ducks (I live on a lake here too and lots of wildlife). read more

I will say in a year of uncertainty and daily challenge for everyone, I cannot say how much Wells deserves a AAA rating for how they handled my order. I moved into a new house which was delayed by construction and could not pick up the rugs.....Wells made a special exception and delivered the rugs once the house was complete, understanding my frustration with the situation. The owner and delivery person could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. The rugs were exceptionally clean. Wells was a huge bright spot in an otherwise tough period. I have used Wells Rug Service for over 23 years. I take very much pride in my home as well as its furnishings, including our many Stickley, and ABC Carpet in Home, furniture and carpets, both in NYC. I would never take my rugs anywhere else. Their excellent cleaning of my rugs, as big as 20x25 antique rugs (magnificent) were sent to Wells about 16 years ago. After one week the rugs were done. Well called the job was complete When they were promptly returned after the cleaning, I was elated. It was as if it was newly purchased. perfectly cleaned and the texture, the nap, was restored to original texture. Wells Rug Services are the top in professionalism. They make it easy for your appt. booking and call to remind you at least 24 hours before arriving for pick up. They very gently removed my furniture from atop the carpet. NO worries there. They put all furniture back in place when they were finished with the pick up. I get so excited upon the arrival of my exquisite rugs. Anxiously waiting to see the magic they performed on my pieces. I had 15 area rugs cleaned, both wool and silk. The silk ones had been purchased in Iran, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan, so they are high quality and irreplaceable. The men who picked up the rugs were efficient and professional. And I was soooo pleased with the cleaning! The colors are much more vibrant. And they also repaired cat inflicted rug pulls. I just signed up to Yelp partly to give a review of Wells and my experience with them over a decade ago, before the time of these public forum reviews. Consider it payback time. I have a special affinity for handmade rugs and actually bought and sold them privately for a while after spending several months in Turkey. One that was special to me was a 4x6 handmade Belouch rug, made of wool and some cotton in the base. I gave it to Wells for a cleaning, and they ruined it. The rug, which laid perfectly flat when entrusted to them, was returned totally warped, with high spots and low spots across the rug. I have no idea what the hell they did to it, but I imagine hot water being used which probably shrunk the cotton. When I brought it back to the store their position was the the fine print on the cleaning agreement says they are not responsible for any damage during cleaning. In other words, they can ruin your expensive rugs and not take responsibility for it. I think they said that for an additional charge they could try to stretch it back to the original condition; you know, to flatness. I declined. Along with the aforementioned rug, we gave Wells a 10x12' antique handmade Persian rug to have a small edge tear repaired. When I hand over a handmade rug to be repaired I expect the service provider knows to reweave the knots. Instead, Wells cut away an oversized piece surrounding the tear - maybe 8x8 inches, and replaced the square area with a piece from another rug that looked somewhat similar in design and colors. From what I recall the piece was somehow glued there from the bottom, rather than even being woven together. The total incompetence astounded me. They showed no respect to my rugs and craftsmanship that went into them. Essentially, we paid to have our rugs ruined. Other cleanings done previously over the years went off without a hitch. read more

Used this company to clean an area rug after moving. DO NOT use this company. They ruined the rug and took absolutely no responsibility for it I picked them as they sAid they have experience cleaning expensive rugs and they totally ruined it. When I approached them about ruining the rug and their response is I needed to prove to them they ruined it. What a joke I told them to just look at it. It looks nothing like the rug they took from the house. It was stretched and the pattern and colors were gone. His response was basically we clean 1000 of rugs for years so my ruined rug would not hurt their business at all. Please do not use this company. I wish I could give Zero. This was a terrible experience I had several years ago, so they may have improved since then. When I first moved to this area, I heard they were the best with expensive rugs, and they did a good job on a modern Chinese area rug I brought to them in the '90's. However 12 years later, after I brought it back for re-cleaning and was coming in to pick it up, I was horrified to observe a worker using a heavy rotating brush floor machine to SCRUB a beautiful rug, and when I picked up my own rug and got it home, I saw that the entire pile had been scrubbed down practically to nothing.
