I didn't expect to find a sushi spot, much less a decent one, in a West Pennsylvania town called…read moreConnellsville, but here I was spending the night at the nearby Comfort Inn on the Youghiogheny River (that's a mouthful!). When I asked the front desk staff what might be a good place for dinner, she recommended not this spot but the popular restaurant bar next door. Iconoclast that I am, I decided to venture into the cold pitch black and walked about ten minutes. A polite South Asian man greeted me. Seated in the adjacent dining room, I was the only diner until a couple showed up about a half hour later. The menu was robust, and I was hungry after a long drive from Downtown Pittsburgh. First I ordered the $6.50 Agedashi Tofu, which was not the traditional appetizer. It consisted of large wedges of deep-fried tofu covered with bonito shavings and accompanied by tempura sauce (Photo 9). It was pretty good with an emphasis on quantity. Portion was to be a recurring theme as my entree was the abundant $26.95 Sashimi Deluxe consisting of a dozen pieces of fish plus a tuna roll cut into six pieces (Photo 10). It was a decent variety of mostly thick slices of maguro, hamachi, and ebi. No salmon though and there were imitation crab sticks. The tuna roll was rather generic. Again I was impressed more by the quantity than the quality. Certainly plenty of wasabi and ginger. I didn't leave room for the complimentary miso soup (Photo 8) much less any notion of dessert. Their menu expands to poke bowls, yakisoba, and four different ramen bowls. They even offer General Tso's chicken and shrimp. That level of versatility is impressive, but it's been my experience that not everything can be well executed consistently. Regardless, if I was a local resident of Connellsville, I'm sure I'd be here a lot. FOOD - 3 stars...quantity was impressive, quality was variable AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious dining room, not much on decor SERVICE - 4 stars...quite attentive TOTAL - 3 stars...you can have sashimi in Connellsville RELATED - Exploring the Pittsburgh area? The specials may be a but expensive (16.95), but the regular rolls are great, and its hard to find halfway decent food nowadays for cheap. I was impressed with the interior design and decor because the outside of the building is definitely lack luster. The staff were all friendly and our server was certainly a tenured employee that was quick with taking our orders and getting our food and drinks out quickly. We had the gyoza, a California roll, and two hibachi entrees. I had the steak and shrimp combo. Everything was hot and cooked exactly how I ordered it. If anything, I thought there was a little too much hibachi sauce and the plate was a little salty. Nothing a few glasses of water couldn't handle! The ginger salad and clear soup that came out as appetizers with our meals were about average and what you'd expect. We saw a ton of takeout orders being processed during our stay and I can understand why. We'll be back, I'm sure.

My wife and daughter ordered the bean curd with vegetables along with a couple of spring rolls and thoroughly enjoyed it. The portions are generous so two people could share and save $. Dining in, takeout, and GrubHub delivery are available. My husband and I ate lunch in the dining room. An employee promptly and courteously greeted us and seated us at a clean, small table. For an appetizer, we each received a cucumber salad that my husband described as "really good," and we ate every morsel! My husband received his entree many minutes before I received mine. He ate the pad see ew with chicken, and he said that it was "average" like other restaurants' pad see ews and that he liked it. I ate the special lobster-tail roll, which was a large size and contained a Maine lobster tail, avocado, asparagus, avocado, masago, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and tobiko roe. Part of it was fried. I really enjoyed the lobster meat and sauces. The total price for these two entrees was $45 plus tax and tip.

Casual vibes, nothing fancy and more like a hole in the wall but comfortable. I took 1 star was because The resto didn't have their AC on, which made it uncomfortable on a hot 92 degree summer day. They did try to compensate by adding a window fan for the whole restaurant. Nothing was said and nothing else was offered for that issue. The price point for sushi was also pretty high. $9 for regular sushi rolls like tuna, salmon, California, spicy tuna.. usually prices are about $5.50-$7 in the New Jersey/New York area. Street parking. Outside seating. Would recommend!

It means there are burritos and pizza galore. And fast Asian. Mr. Hibachi is in that tradition and they are efficient in part by having a veritable army of folks working quickly to keep up with a brisk takeaway business. There are dining-in options but that isn't their primary focus. If you do want to eat in, there are 3 tables in the busy front section that can accommodate 4 or five folks. Then there is a string of high tops for 2 that run down the length of the skinny store. So we mostly do take-out drawing on both the straight forward sushi options or hibachi options. Lots of both with no big surprises. But portions are generous and prices reasonable. Favs in my family are the shrimp hibachi that you can substitute lo mien noodles for white or fried rice for a small mark up. I'm partial to the sashimi combo that won't be confused for high end fish but the slices are thick and the dish is filling and a good deal since it is under $20 and comes with miso and a generous fried rice portion. If you get a big order ie 2 bags instead of one for takeaway, be sure to check your order and make sure you have both bags. They have a lot of orders to fill so a couple of times I wasn't paying attention and left without one of the bags. In one case I did get a call quickly from the store asking me to come back and pick it up. A couple times there was a missing side (yum yum sauce for the hibachi) or side of fried rice. So as always, can't hurt to check to make sure everything is there. One final feature to point out. I really like the ability to order online for and choose a later time for pickup. This approach works well for bringing home dinner right after class or a workout. Given how busy they can get when the students are in town, this feature is often wise to use.
