Usually a bit leery of sushi restos mixed in with other cuisines but Itamae did deliver a good meal! Service was friendly and our food arrived at a decent time. Casual vibes, nothing fancy and more like a hole in the wall but comfortable. I took 1 star was because The resto didn't have their AC on, which made it uncomfortable on a hot 92 degree summer day. They did try to compensate by adding a window fan for the whole restaurant. Nothing was said and nothing else was offered for that issue. The price point for sushi was also pretty high. $9 for regular sushi rolls like tuna, salmon, California, spicy tuna.. usually prices are about $5.50-$7 in the New Jersey/New York area. Street parking. Outside seating. Would recommend!

I was excited to try this new restaurant in the South Hills! I enjoyed the food, especially the pad Thai. The sushi was okay, but I'd much rather go to Little Tokyo for their high quality.

Itamae is such a hidden gem!! Really delicious sushi spot in Mt. Lebanon. The menu has a ton of variety for people who are not fans of sushi. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. We stopped by during peak dinner hours on a Friday night (on the weekend of the NFL draft!) and snagged one of the last open tables. Will definitely be back!

Small unassuming place that serves both Thai cuisine and sushi. We went the Thai route and tried the app sampler. They were fried fresh and had tasty dipping sauces. The curries were tasty, although the chicken in the Panang curry tasted old and dry. The pad se ew was good, but a tad sweet. Would try it again to also try the sushi. The area is cute and across from a brewery, so maybe get some take out and grab a beer, or vice versa!

It's in a cute little corner in castle Shannon. Parking is hit and miss but it's walkable. Walking in, it seems to be set up more for "to go" as you are met with the sushi counter immediately on entering. The fish smell is a little strong but it is a sushi place and you get to watch them make it. Clean. Apps were great. Everything else was sweet and didn't have much spice. Usually you can select a spice level, but that option was not available. I had tofu in my curry which was cooked well and I enjoyed it. My friend had the same curry with chicken. We could have gone without the chicken and just picked it out of the dish. The pad see ew was okay but lacked flavor. Shrimp was cooked well. Service was quick and they have some common translations posted in the bathroom which I though was a nice touch. It just wasn't my favorite.

Lovely visit at the restaurant this time with friends, the waiter is AWESOME, could be besties. Food is perfect, prices are very reasonable, convenient spot and I can't wait to come again and again

I was once again craving sushi last night so we ordered what is supposedly one of the top rate sushi places in pittsburgh. I got the salmon poke bowl and it was very very good. I was also very happy with the edamame which came with a delicious spicy garlic sauce and the side of egg fried rice was amazing. My boyfriend fancies himself a ramen expert and didn't love the ramen so much but said he would try other stuff next time we ordered.

Went here recently with some friends for dinner and we enjoyed our evening! Our server was friendly and offered us helpful suggestions on the menu. We ended up starting off with their sampler, which I definitely recommend - every single bite was yummy and it was the perfect amount of food to start off with for 2-3 people! For mains, we ended up ordering one of their sushi boat combos. I liked the mix of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi - it was the perfect amount of each type of sushi! Everything was fresh and carefully prepared, with the yellowtail and ikura being my favorite fish of the lot. Overall, this is a nice local spot to check out the next time you're in the mood for sushi! Or Thai - we only ordered sushi but the table next to us got some noodle dishes that looked great!

Omg I'm so glad I ordered from them under the newer name as that is how long I haven't ordered from this place. I really want to try this sweet potato curry that they offer and that will be on my next pickup. I got the yellow fish poke bowl which was really fresh, I wish there was more fish to price you're paying as other poke bowl places offers 2-3 scoops for the price you get for 1 scoop at this place. That is probably my only setback with their poke bowls but I really liked everything else. Also, I ordered the Thai donuts which I still don't know if I liked the white icing over the chocolate or the chocolate over the white. I think I was more into the chocolate but they both are overly sweet so too much made me not like it. I know it's not gluten free but I put my allergy (thankfully I am not celiac) to the side and tried them. They are so fresh and tasty! Def worth to try! Service was lovely, they do acknowledge you. Parking can be hairy depending on what time you go due to the hitchhiker bar being right there. I didn't eat inside but I will say seating seemed limited but spacious.

Service, food - everything! So flavorful and tasty. This was our first time in and we will definitely be back to dine in or takeout.

Really impressive. This is a relatively small space, but it's nicely done and they seem to really care about putting out a high quality experience. We ordered takeout, with a blend of both Thai dishes and Japanese/Hawaiian dishes. At first, that seemed like an odd pairing, but it seems to line up with the background and experiences of the owners. In terms of the actual food, everything was extremely well packaged. The poke bowl was particularly inspired with some amount of care put into its overall composition and presentation. The Thai basil stir fry was good. The Penang curry was excellent, but could have used a few more vegetables (mostly my own personal preference). The papaya salad and ginger salad were good, but could have been just a little more flavor forward. All told, this was a nice place tucked into a quiet pocket of the South Hills with good food and owners who really want to turn out a high quality product. Well worth checking out.

Great sushi lunch the other day. Popped in as I decided to explore Mt Lebanon. It's a teeny hole in the wall in the middle of a neighborhood. Love the perky paint colors on the exterior. I was greeted with a cheery hello by the 2 sushi chefs. I was the only one there. Service was friendly and efficient. I got hot jasmine tea which was delivered in a cute pink pot. My sashimi bento box popped out quickly, even though there seemed to be several delivery orders coming in. The fish was super fresh and flavorful. The salmon silky, the tuna tender, the yellowtail melt-in-your mouth yummy. I chose the spicy tuna for my roll and loved it. Really good spice. The mini-seaweed salad was good, as was the regular little house salad. Always love that ginger dressing. The little fried dumpling was really tasty. I'll definitely be back. One tip - I heard someone making a reservation for dinner. Maybe they're busier during dindin? ‍

Delayed review on Yelp. Itamae Thai & Sushi is a fabulous new addition to the South Hills area! The food- particularly the sushi was so fresh and is now my new go-to for sushi cravings. Vick, the sushi chef was very personable and accommodating to specific allergies and diet restrictions. After 3 months, I am still raving about the food and experience. Go and try this Sushi for yourself!

My friend and I dined there on July 4th. I got the Pad See Ew - noodles were soft yet springy, and the spicy / smoky / garlicky flavor of the dish is like nothing you get anywhere else. I am also not usually a dessert person, but this visit, I made an exception. The mango coconut ice cream with the sticky rice was a very special treat, particularly on this hot and muggy day. I don't even normally love mango, but yesterday I did. Just perfect, can't ask for more. Five stars.

We got seated outside which was fine cuz we understand it was last minute). It was 40s outside and no heater in place... People seemed to come here for special events (we saw many grad parties or birthdays and date nights). We ordered noodles and curries. Huge portions that could serve 2 people per entree (or 1 very hungry runner per entree, which was the case for us). The food was tasty HOWEVER WE WERE GASLIT! My friend ordered his dish with pork and after a bite or two he realized it was chicken. We asked the waitress to send it back and she insisted it was pork (by this photo you can tell the top right dish's protein is the same as the chicken in the 2 curries...) and insisted that we were confused with curt demeanor... Service wise, we had multiple different waiters/ waitresses, one person seating us, another taking our order, another delivering the food, another filling the water, so it was very hard to communicate our concerns because it was one big telephone game. We didn't like the service, the outdoors dining area was cute and NOISY so don't plan on having conversations there. Parking was easy enough there were multiple garages nearby. Overall tasty food but we got the ick after being gaslit so probably won't come back.

We had a horrible culinary experience the past couple of days driving through West Virginia, Ohio, and western New York. Pittsburgh was our last stop before heading home and Kiin Lao and Thai Eatery made up for all of the culinary disappointment this weekend. Let's talk about the ambiance first. Everything about this restaurant was quite beautiful. When I say beautiful, I don't mean it in an elegant way, but an artsy street vibe way. It is hip, clean, and we'll put together. You can tell a lot of love went into the decorations and into every piece of art on its walls. The service was pretty good. The server herself was attentive when needed and left us alone when needed. The food was AWESOME. We got the papaya combo with the Thum Mak Houng option, curry puffs, grilled pork shoulder with sticky rice, and Pad Gra Prow Street Style. The papaya was "lao-style" made with fermented shrimp paste. If you love deep umami flavors, this is it for you. The papaya salad was pungent and sour and savory spicy and just so satisfying. We asked for a 6/10 spiciness and they came with the heat. The chicken skewers that came with it was flavorful too. A little bit of char on the chicken would've brought it over the top. The curry puffs were so comforting and had that south Asian flavor profile that was very welcomed. The curry and spice blend did not overwhelm the potatoes. Instead it enhanced the earthy potato flavors in the best way possible. The menu said that it came with a cucumber sauce but I don't think we got that. What we got was a more like a honey sauce. The sauce was good in itself but didn't pair well with the puffs. The grilled pork shoulder was delectable. The meat was tender and it was seasoned perfectly. Again, more char on the meat would've brought it to a new level. The only gripe I have with this order was the sticky rice. The amount of sticky rice you get with it was so small I thought it was a joke initially. Nope, it was not! I thought the Pad Gra Prow Street Style was OKAY. I would've made it a little saucier. Despite this, my significant other absolutely LOVED it. Pad Gra Prow was my significant other's favorite dish when she lived overseas. She said that this was the best Pad Gra Prow she has had on this side of the world. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We would definitely come by again when we are back this way.
