I love the set up of this place with cozy booth nooks but they also have large family style tables in the center of the room as well. The menu has everything from hibachi, sushi, and chinese. My family orders from here a lot, and mostly takeout. The takeout always takes a long period of time to be handed over, or is messed up. All this even with the amount of service and employees there, and with the low number of people seated in there. The food is subpar at best. The only reason food ever gets ordered from here by my family is because of the lack of Asian restaurants around our area. In the rare occasion of my family sitting in the restaurant the waitresses (usually women) are always nice, which may be the only thing holding this place up, along with the decorations, lighting, and calming music. When I was a young lad, my father used to take me to a classic Chinese restaurant - a traditional sit down place with hot tea, pagoda reminiscent decor, and that banger Ming Dynasty soundtrack. That place is long goon now. It fell victim to the inexorable out-of-state commercial takeover that has infected my home town. The days of a sitting in a comfy booth being served some chicken by a sweet and not-at-all sour old lady have passed where I am from. That is fortunately not the reality everywhere, and least of all at the Sesame Grill in Steubenville. As I sat in our cozy table alcove sipping on hot tea (a soulfully soothing brew) I wondered why I could not have such a paowerful experience in my city anymore. But therein lies the answer: I live in a city. Take a town; bring in a load of investors from California, add in the wonton destruction of our way of life, and what do you get? A very, very dim sum. The soyl of our country still exists, and it is found in small towns like this, in the simple smiles of the entire staff who thanked us kindly as we proceeded to the exit. Dining here brought me back to my childhood. It made me want to be part of a community again, like how it was before my city was a city. The outside of this place is deceiving. It didn't liked like a real nice place. The inside though is clean and formal with tablecloths, tacky service, and real china. The food is reasonably priced and my dish was excellent. I got the Kung Pao Chicken combo. The egg roll was large and perfectly cooked. They had real condiments, not to go packets. Food was not good, and our 100 dollar order was incorrect. The "owner" or at least that's what she said she was, was not kind at all, and refused to fix the order. She did however tell me that she forgot to charge me for extra yum yum sauce and that I should consider that when asking about my missing food. I love that you can order hibachi dishes from a menu in a traditional restaurant table setting. I love Japanese hibachi cooking, but I travel a lot for work and I am usually alone. I don't want to see how the hibachi chef can throw food and utensils around, turn a sliced onion into a chimney, or singe my eyebrows with burning sake. I don't want to pretend to make friends with people that I will never see again, I just want dinner. Service was excellent. My server always seemed to know when I needed something, but otherwise left me to eat in peace. Taking off one star for the use of rubbery canned mushrooms. Come on, I just gave you $22 for a filet hibachi dinner that was otherwise very good, you can certainly spend a few cents more for fresh mushrooms. read more

Kung Pao WOW! True story...months ago I pulled into the parking lot but left because the place doesn't look like much from the outside. I have been missing out on this his deliciousness. Very busy for lunch both times I have been here now. I see why. I tried a couple sushi rolls and seaweed salad. The Hunan Beef was good and spicy with tons of flavor and large slices of meat. AMAZING!! We went there for lunch and had the most amazing hot and sour soup and crispy noodle chicken chow mein I have had in years! My husband ordered the Hunan Shrimp and I tried some and that was fantastic. The shrimp were large and fresh and the spice was perfect! The Won Ton soup was also fantastic with several large fresh wontons. The portion sizes were huge and my husband was able to finish his plate to my amazement. 5 star hibachi, 1 star take out I want to start off saying that I am a very loyal restaurant customer. For five years this was my jam because the hibachi is legit. The restaurant's ambiance is better than any of that in the area. But the fact is that the last two times I had take out, they doubled my order in price, and would not tell me the price until I picked it up, causing me to wait up to 30 minutes for a simple take out, that could have taken 5 if they got it right. They are either notoriously dishonest or their understanding and use of the English language is far worse than you can possibly imagine. Or both, which is what I think. For example,I ordered some teriyaki chicken for pick up, they tell me I ordered hibachi! And try to force me to pay triple what I wanted! In conclusion, their food is very good, but the chances of them completely screwing up your order and your night are pretty good too. read more

This is an outcast compared to all other restaurants I've been to. It's a Chinese restaurant with American waitresses! Mine was very talkative and friendly! The spicy chicken is phenomenal, but the water tastes like Duracell battery acid. The hibachi cooks look legit, and the structural integrity of the chairs seem to exceed today's weight-capacity standards with obesity on the rise. Well done, Sesame! They set the table with a tablecloth specifically for you and the workers are all helpful. The menu has a lot of options and a large variety of prices as well so you can get a very large meal for a good price. everything about this restaurant is good except for the food. i really like the spacious-ness of the restaurant and the service was super fast. unfortunately, the food just isn't great. people say it's the best in the area, and maybe that's true, but it doesn't set the bar very high. my general tso's chicken had a weird taste, and the fried rice was yellow instead of brown which i was not a fan of. a thing to note is that there are three different portions of the restaurant: a sushi bar, a hibachi grill, and the main area which serves chinese food. it's totally possible that the sushi and hibachi aspects are great. i don't mind risking $10 on trying a new restaurant, and wouldn't be opposed to going back, i just wouldn't especially recommend it. read more

Sesame Grill is my go-to restaurant when I am visiting the area. The prices are reasonable, and the food is great. They have hibachi seating and a dining room, where you can order hibachi, chinese food, or sushi from the menu. When I'm not eating lobster hibachi at the hibachi grill, I go for the seaweed salad, miso soup, and a specialty sushi roll in the dining room. I'd recommend the Christmas roll!! Their hibachi (or japanese) fried rice is also excellent! -- but make sure to order hibachi fried rice/japanese fried rice or you will get their standard, chinese fried rice instead. They also have a full bar and serve great hot tea! For the quality and the prices, I would definitely recommend trying Sesame Grill in lieu of traveling to the Robinson/Pittsburgh area for Hibachi. It is just as good, if not better, at Sesame Grill - and the price is right. For locals, if it is helpful, I'd also highly recommend the sushi at Sesame Grill over Fujiyama in Weirton. read more

Needless to say we were put into this little side room with a broken air conditioner, can't begin to say how hot it was. Our waitress was the worst. She took our initial order and was never seen again. I had to go hunt her down for additional drinks and she never came to pick up our bill. We eventually took our bill to the register ourself. The floor was so sticky my shoe actually stuck at one moment and I almost over tread my ankle. Needless to say this was our first and last trip to this restaurant. I assume if it takes more than 10 minutes to be acknowledged for the first time, my chances of getting my drink, food, and a drink refill in any timely fashion is probably slim.
