The young lady at the counter tells me before I order there is a 30-40 minute wait on the food and while that sounds ridiculous, I drove all the way from Asheboro for one of their burgers because I already know it's worth the wait. No problem! The place is right off the main road and there's plenty of parking with additional parking in the rear. The inside appearance is that of a burger joint. Not too fancy but clean. I ordered the Jr. Cheeseburger with extra cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo, a Hot Dog all the way, Seasoned fries and a Sweet Tea. Their burgers are served hot and are cooked until the edges are "lacy" and crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. They use potato buns and they and are so fresh and grilled on one side which gives the burger additional good flavor. The fries are cooked perfectly, served hot and lightly seasoned. And you can get some of their homemade ranch to dip them in. I know they are known for their burgers but they also have AWESOME Hot Dogs! The weiner is grilled and again, the bun is grilled on one side, just makes your tongue all kind of happy. I ordered my hot dog "All the Way" aka "Carolina Style". The chili was good, the white slaw was fresh and light, onions added a hint of sweetness, and the mustard ties all of the flavors together in a well made, high quality hot dog. They also have really good sweet tea. Nicks has the BEST burgers and hot dogs in the Triangle area and I highly recommend but get there as soon as they open or you may find yourself waiting in line. But do go.

The melted cheese was dripping over the sides, the bun was soft and fresh, and every bite just kept getting better. The fries deserved their own round of applause. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and so addictive I kept telling myself, "Just one more"... about 30 fries ago. I don't know what kind of magic they're working back there, but they absolutely nailed it. This wasn't one of those burgers you eat because you're hungry--this was the kind you eat in complete silence because you're too busy enjoying every bite. On top of the amazing food, the service was just as impressive. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience even better. They also have covered outdoor picnic tables with fans running overhead, which was a really nice touch. It made sitting outside comfortable even on a warm day and gave the place a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. Safe to say this place has officially ruined mediocre burgers for me. I'll definitely be back... and next time I might need two orders of fries because sharing isn't going to happen.

When the wings came out, they were swimming in sauce on the bottom of the dish. I will say, the wings were a very nice size, they were cooked extremely well, very juicy and tender, and it was hot. Not hot enough to cry for a glass of milk, but definitely hot enough you did not want to get it on your lips. We were very happy with them and ate them all. We had both ordered the smash burgers with pimento cheese and bacon, cooked medium. When they eventually came out, yes the kitchen was slow but I didn't mind it, everything was still extremely hot in temperature. The fries were thick but very well cooked with crispy outside and fluffy insides and a nice little seasoning salt. The burgers were excellent. Cooked just right, nice amount of pimento cheese, fluffy bun and tasty bacon. We ended up eating half and taking the rest home because we really filled up on the wings. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves and the food was very good for a very decent price.

I don't think the bun was steamed though and that hurts the texture. The hot dog itself had a good snap and taste, and the through-the-garden toppings were loaded well onto the bun. Something's still missing about the overall taste though, as these simply don't measure up to other Chicago-style hot dogs I've had -- including many far away from Chicago. The build of the sandwich looks closer to being correct than it did five years ago, but the flavors are still wrong, and I wish they'd work to figure out what it is they're missing. I placed my order on site rather than calling it in, and the young lady at the counter was pleasant. It took a little longer than I'd expected for the kitchen to prepare my order; maybe they just don't get many requests for the Windy City dog and they're just not well versed in putting it together? This latest experience leaves me scoring Joe's somewhere between two and three stars, and though the food was better than last time I still lean towards the lower side of that range. Maybe their more Carolina-themed food would be better and result in a higher rating, but there are already plenty of places I can go locally for a hot dog fixed "our way," many of which would be at a more competitive price point and with better options for drinks and seating. There are plenty of tasty sides, and I love the Street Corn, the Collards, the Fried Okra, and Mac & Cheese. Joe's is the type of locally owned restaurant that I love to support. The food and service are first rate. Because it has little street visibility, it's location, is small with no inside seating, and is take out, a number of folks will never give this place a visit, and that's a shame. The burger here is as good as those at Alex's, Bobo's, Mr BBQ, and Dairi-o. The hot dogs are as good as those at Dairi-o, Mr BBQ, and Kermit's, and very close to those at PB's. The Beef Brisket is as good as any in the area, and far better than the vast majority. I highly recommend and hope you will visit.
