Local joint- quick service- can recommend the burgers and hot dogs- if you want to explore Davidson county and like MAGA decor, then you'll love this place-

This is one biscuit and gravy! I could probably put six more biscuits in this gravy and still have enough! Soooo good!

OMG!!! The best breakfast ever! You better bring your appetite. The food is not only plentiful, it is delicious! I did not know they served breakfast. But you better believe I'm going to be getting breakfast there often. Yum

I had the Meat Eaters Omelette. Best omelette I've ever had! Also, biggest omelette I've ever had. It was loaded with bacon, ham, sausage and cheese. Now, I can eat a lot of breakfast food, but I barely put a dent in this thing. The server, Whisper (yep, that's her name) , was amazing. Kept the coffee full and was very happy to take care of us. I've only been twice, both times for breakfast, and have been pleased with everything both times. I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for lots of good food and great service.

Most of the seating area, gonna be loud when well occupied

This place has been open for about a year now - at one point this was Rick's. It's a small place with most of the seating, and all the booths, in a narrow, rectangular space to the left as you enter, and there are a few rickety stools along a small counter - would not suggest sitting there as the wait staff groups there, often in loud conversation. They also offer curb service beginning at 11AM. I ordered 1/4 BBQ Chicken (a Friday special) and a coarse chopped BBQ tray. It took almost 30 minutes to get my order - they had a large order to process - so my order (a daily special and a core item - already prepared and available) was kicked to the curb. To top it off the food was not work the wait, not worth the visit. The chicken was overcooked and lacked flavor, add'l sauce was not a cure. The coarse chopped pork was placed in a small take-out container along side stone cold BBQ slaw - want to guess what happened to the pork - stone cold. Not a well thought out packaging approach for that dish! Bad choices have bad consequences - I made a bad choice to come here, and I did suffer bad consequences! Hope my next choice is better, and it has a chance since my choice will be not to come back here!

This review is based solely on breakfast I have not ate here for dinner or lunch . The bbq did smell amazing walking in the door . We had ordered an omelette and eggs with sausage and both a side of grits . My omelette wasn't really an omelette I got an everything omelette it was just a large fried egg and then a bunch of meat and veggies in the middle basically used the egg like a burrito to wrap around everything instead of mixing it and being a true omelette and it was just too much very greasy and egg wasn't good nor was my wife's she said the sausage patties were good. Both bowl of grits didn't taste some or had been sitting for hours the butter was separated and they were very thick and clumpy . Service was very slow considering there was only two other families there . I grew up eating the bbq there when it was Andy's bbq I wouldn't come back for breakfast but wouldn't mind coming back to try the bbq .

The melted cheese was dripping over the sides, the bun was soft and fresh, and every bite just kept getting better. The fries deserved their own round of applause. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and so addictive I kept telling myself, "Just one more"... about 30 fries ago. I don't know what kind of magic they're working back there, but they absolutely nailed it. This wasn't one of those burgers you eat because you're hungry--this was the kind you eat in complete silence because you're too busy enjoying every bite. On top of the amazing food, the service was just as impressive. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience even better. They also have covered outdoor picnic tables with fans running overhead, which was a really nice touch. It made sitting outside comfortable even on a warm day and gave the place a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. Safe to say this place has officially ruined mediocre burgers for me. I'll definitely be back... and next time I might need two orders of fries because sharing isn't going to happen.

This looks like a little hole-in the-wall type of place, so I should've known it would be great! We got hotdogs all the way with no onions, I think they called them "regular." We also got fries and drinks. It was about $24 total, which isn't terrible compared to other hotdog places in the area. Everything was served piping hot and the hotdogs I would argue are my favorite of any in the area. They are a red hotdog and the white slaw and chili are almost sweet. It reminds me of the hotdogs I grew up eating at a local drive in restaurant back where I'm from. It is a walk-up stand and you're served at a window but you can take your food back to your car and eat in the air conditioning or take it back home with you. The lady taking orders was managing phone orders and in person orders while fixing drinks and calling customers up to get their food. I loved my visit to this little place and I'm going to definitely keep it in mind for lunches in the near future. Can't wait to go back soon!

She took a selfie with me to send to her friend, and honestly, I thought that was one of the most heartwarming moments of our entire trip. It perfectly captured what we've experienced throughout Lexington: local business owners genuinely rooting for one another instead of simply doing business. Now, let's talk about the food. If you're looking for authentic barbecue done right, this place absolutely delivers. The smoked chicken was unbelievably juicy, with flavorful skin and just the right amount of smoke. The brisket burnt ends were another highlight. Rich, tender, deeply smoky, and finished with a generous drizzle of barbecue sauce that complemented the meat instead of overpowering it. Exactly the way it should be. The potato salad was creamy, chunky, obviously homemade, and seasoned just enough to let every ingredient shine. The onion rings were perfectly crisp and light with a satisfying crunch, while the hush puppies were golden, tender on the inside, and absolutely delicious. Every side felt like it was made with the same care and attention as the barbecue itself. Every plate that came out of the kitchen looked generous and made with genuine care. This is the kind of barbecue that doesn't need elaborate presentation because the food speaks for itself. Hearty portions, perfectly smoked meats, classic sides executed exceptionally well, and the kind of meal that stays with you long after you've left the table. The bacon was thick and had just a slight chew to it. Just the right amount of mayo and tomatoes cut to a good thickness. Hot dog was pretty great. They put a real generous amount of mustard *under* the frank then topped with chili and a nice creamy slaw. If the bun had been toasted it would have been darn near perfect. Appreciated the self-serve seasoning salt at each table. Tots were good without but especially good with. Thunder Road Grill was worth the drive and I hope to return!

You have to understand, that I am a total burger snob. As a reference point, my favorite burger in the Piedmont Triad is Hops Burger Bar in Greensboro, and I'll drive the 20 miles and stand around waiting on a table for 30 minutes, at the first suggestion, no questions asked. Also way up there is/was Big Burger Spot, but they've now slipped into third place since Guy is no longer the owner and overseer and now that I've had the burgers at Thunder Road. First off, they will cook your burger to your desired doneness. For me, that's the minimum standard that a burger joint has to meet, and my medium-rare burgers have been spot-on every time. From there, the buns, the topping, the sides have always been fresh, tasty and again, done to order to meet my picky requests! "Can I get those tots crispy?" "Since I haven't tried it, can you put that sauce on the side?" "Can you cook that bacon crispy but not burnt?" Each request was met with something like a "You bet!" and the execution of the request was perfect. I really like that each table is equipped with a roll of paper towels and several condiments including the local Texas Pete, as well as salt, pepper, and some form of seasoning salt. Often when I see these things on tables in diners they are grimy and the table beneath then is sticky and dirty, but they make an extra effort to keep them clean and well stocked. For example, last week I grabbed the red bottle of Heinz ketchup, expecting that I would need to request a swap with a full bottle, but no, it was totally full! Just like when I was a kid, I love crunchy potato chips on my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and I like fries with my ketchup! Let's face the facts that one of these days I'm bound to be disappointed in something, but from what I can see from the friendly and attentive staff, it's going to something I can overlook or that they'll be willing to address. Oh, that reminds me about the bathrooms! I often dread entering the men's room in a one-off diner or pub, but I was elated to find a clean and fresh smelling space that was well lit and well supplied. They've won us over. Last Saturday we bought three of our granddaughters, and today will be joined by my sister and brother-in-law, who are also locals and bound to become fans of Thunder Road Grill! As I re-read this before posting it, I wonder, why do I leave good reviews for places that I don't want to see become crowded and popular? Sometimes I question my sanity! Be sure to say howdy to me if we run into each other. And Fred B, I think you need to give them one more try.
